Article talks about their aims to buy out smaller developers and how their new Singapore studio is starting out.

I can’t see SNK becoming a big name like it was in the 90s again, but good luck to them and their totally harmless Saudi Arabian overlords.

Meh, we'll see. Sounds like they acknowledge the up-hill battle they need to climb in the modern age and in the article are open about needing a larger development force and diversification of IP. This isn't the 90's where you can ride high on arcade earnings to carry you. They have a long-long way to go.

We'll never see 90's SNK again, but we may see something new evolve over the next decade. Will they match Capcom's output? Probably not, but I think that should be their target goal as far as "diversity" in IP goes. Competing with MS, Activition, etc is a fools game for them.

It actually wouldn’t be a bad thing for them to be bought by Sony or Microsoft imo, at least the IPs would get more use.

Maybe that’s the long, long term plan -
at least get big enough to register as a potential ‘purchase’.

Well, good luck.

I think there's a slowly growing demand for high-quality games that are not FPS or FPS-RPG. Whenever I check out Playstation store/network or whatever they call it to check out some new games, it's mainly stuff from said categories which I find rather boring and I refuse to believe that I'm the only one who feels that way.

100% - I'm so over open-world and "live service" FPS/third-person fodder. Not to say there isn't a space for them, but I just can't get excited for them unless there's a really unique hook - even then, the experiences usually wear thin for me after a dozen or so hours and I stop playing.

Of course there's a huge space for these games and that's perfectly fine because they are in fact the most popular genres, it's just that people like me often feel a bit left out. Yeah, there are underdog dev'ers and indie games but many of them aren't really up to par in terms of quality, I want something that's not fps or rpg, and something substantial.

Almost all the advertised games look the same to me these days.
It's either some kind of F/TPS or some iteration of a "souls like" game.

Sorry but don’t these companies close underperforming studios? They would release one game that wouldn’t sell and then scuttle SNK and never use their IPs again like WB had done with Midway.

I definitely want them to be successful and relevant these days, but I don't think they'll be a top 10. They are moving in the right directions imo to at least achieve moderate success

Exactly. Electronic arts, WB, Microsoft are all sitting on tons of old IP from the smaller game studios they acquired, that we haven't seen any mention of in 10-20 years.

Honestly, I think the best case scenario for SNK is to be bought out by Sega, or, even NIS. Take the relevant IP's and milk them to death, ie. Yakuza, Persona, Shin Megami Tensei, Trails, and Disgaea being examples.

Maybe I’m wrong but Arc System Works would be a better fit to me. Whoever it would be they wouldn’t be the franchises they developed so they would play second fiddle.

I think right now we’re pretty lucky tbh SNK wise. Relatively new Sam Sho and KOFs, new Fatal Fury people are hyped for, crossovers with other big fighting game franchises like Smash and Street Fighter. New Metal Slug tactics game coming from reputable developer, older games like card fighters on switch

Not sure about Arc - I wouldn't want their DNA in SNK's fighters. So long as SNK would operate as an independent subsidiary, I could jive with it.

Agreed, though! We have much SNK love in the modern era and I think they're doing about as good of a job as they can to essentially reintroduce the gaming audience to their universe of characters and IP. The Pocket stuff getting such widespread releases is really encouraging, especially the Capcom crossover stuff.

Maybe we have more details now, but didn't they say this more or less last year?

I would not like to see SNK being acquired by any company again whatsoever.

I don't know what the fuck Sega has in their head sometimes XD Sonic Pocket Adventure should be included in a NGPC Vol. 3 (if a third volume is indeed planned).

Williams (the partner company of Midway) bought Atari Games just to scrub them from the arcade market. All the Atari Games IPs are now rotting under the Warner Bros umbrella. I would actually like to see those IPs being acquired by the current Atari under Wade Rosen but that's going to be one hell of an uphill battle.

How about Raw Thills acquiring Atari Games? They are one of the only consistent arcade developers out there anymore.

Love to see Eugene Jarvis put his stamp on a new Rush. They can work to port games too like they did with the newest Crusin game

I would not be opposed to the idea of Raw Thrills acquiring the Atari Games IPs. However, getting them from Warner Bros is the main problem...

Don't get me wrong. I love SNK but the glory days are in the past. Maybe top 50 publisher I could see but top 10? That's reaching for the impossible right now.

It depends on how you measure it. In terms of revenue, it's probably unlikely. However, there are not ten publishers that deliver quality new games, so just doing that consistently would put them in the top ten.
