Wii running Gunblade NY and LA Machineguns androses always gave me hope that all of the Sega lightgun games would end up on it. Ghost Squad had me thinking the modern Time Crisis games would be possible from a horsepower perspective.

Bird had flown the coop. This thing is 10 years too late to market.

It all seems cool until you play them and realise you don't give a shit anymore and that's why there hasn't been a new one in years.

I loved light gun shooters. As a genre I was a bigger fan of them than fighters even. I used to hype myself into thinking that Nintendo would revive the Battleclash series on the Wii, surely they would considering what the Wii was, right? Right?!

It's a pity how much wasted potential the Wii was when it came to light gun shooters. Kudos to Namco for fighting the good fight for as long as they did, bless them. Sad to think that the genre simply does not even exist anymore.

That Gunblade Wii collection came out 14 years ago this month. Where does the time go.

I like that there's a few options on the market now for "modern" light guns. I love this genre, and while I understand why it fell out of favor (almost completely) I play Virtua Cop, HOTD, Confidential Mission, etc. with some regularity. Hell, light gun games are the reason I originally wanted a PVM a few years back just to enjoy these.

I may check this out. I know there's another Pandora's Box kit out there, but I haven't talked to anyone that has used them yet. I hear the Sinden lightguns are also good, but they are quite pricy.

They're supposed to be working on a console compatible Sinden, but they seem to be taking forever to bring it to market. A few home modders have already produced a solution for the standard Sinden to work with PSX/PS2, but it's a right ball-ache to set up.

This new gun set-up looks interesting - who's producing it, and what's their track record? How come there's no Namco branding - is this thing officially licensed or what?

If this was a virtua cop or HOTD plug and play i would be excited
This.

There are ways to play HOTD or the virtua games on Batocera but you either need a really expensive Sinden light gun that works with LCD/LED TVs, or you can use a WiiMote with a special wii bar for the PC and that absolutely sucks shit.

This thing is going to be a piece of shit, just like every other plug and play. And of course they had to slap AI all over the marketing, a sure sign of quality. For the price they could at least include more than just the first game.

It's gonna suck, but maybe they prove me wrong. Im very impressed with the commercial options we have, but honestly I just play the Wii versions when I want to do light gun shit.

If it isn't a piece of shit, I'd be curious if it ends up being hackable. I always had a soft spot for the original Time Crisis but $120 is pricey for a single-use item.

What is the AI supposed to do?

I'm confused as to why that is even needed outside of it being a marketable buzzword.

"Time Crisis pre-installed" could mean there might be more games coming out for this thing.

Plenty of light gun games are still made, they are just relegated to the arcades. Most are generic, licensed, and not very good.

Not sure about that, if I walk into a modern arcade (which are few and far between now) light gun games seem to be almost the last man standing, that and massive driving simulators. My assumption was they'll keep knocking them out as long as they're not easily recreated at home.

There was a fun looking sniper game I saw, the scope had its own little screen, clever stuff.

Ok, so looking it up, the game I'm talking about is 25 years old. I'm just going to head to the New Star Wars Stuff thread and tell everyone about the Phantom Menace.

Yeah the local "bro" arcades we have here are chock full of the GIANT light gun shooters like Aliens and the Terminators and the Time Crisis 26es or whatever and little else, other than the weird quiz type games or giant Pac-Mans. Lightgun games are still basically going strong. Wouldn't mind owning an original HOTD or HOTD2 tho.
