People are excited because there are two generations of human beings who weren't alive/old enough to enjoy these kinds of things the last time Lunar was released on console and most of the rest aren't hoarders who still have their Sega CD and their longboxes sitting on their shelves. No one under the age of 35 played those games when they were released/readily available and aren't going to buy a PS1 or a Sega CD just to drop another couple hundo to buy two old physical games and whatever money and fucking around are required to play them on a modern television. It's much more convenient to just spend $30 for a digital copy on a platform you already own.

And while emulation is great and all, the vast majority of people don't have the technical know-how and/or aren't interested in learning. Sure, I'm not buying any of this shit but the world doesn't revolve around me. Happy that other people get to experience and enjoy things too.

I don't understand what people are excited about. Just fire up the Sega CD or Saturn if you want to play Lunar. If you don't have those machines, use your favorite emulator.

Maybe they're just happy to see a game they love getting attention?
I ain't adding more aging hardware to my house to play a small handful of games for nostalgia's sake. Between the system and the games, it's probably easier and cheaper and less time consuming to just get the upcoming rerelease. There are plenty of other games to play in the meantime.

But yeah, it's cool to see a cult classic that I enjoyed get some love.

Remasters also tend to be really hit-or-miss quality-wise. For example, I have Sonic Colors Ultimate. It's generally well-regarded. It's not made by the original team, it feels like a product from its original time despite the increased detail, and the cutscenes are upscaled so they don't fit well.

Yeah but I'm not looking for a 1:1 experience out of a remaster.

I just want to go back to that time and experience the memory of it for a while is all. And I think most people are probably like that, Only hardcore vintage types, a niche if there ever was one, aren't satisfied with anything less than 1:1. And they know where it differs. In a way, they make themselves miserable, especially considering they probably still have their old versions more often than not. So they have the 'superior' version but they still grouse about a version that they don't even need.

I've yet to see a remaster that hasn't scratched the itch, personally. Most of them are 'good enough' for me.

Exes steal CDs and stuff on a regular basis.
Knew a guy whose ex took all his firearms and the dog in the divorce.
She hated both.
Dog ended up in a shelter.
The guns were all turned over to the police for destruction.
I think he managed to get the dog back but the guns, some of which were given to him by his dad and Grandpa, were gone forever.

This is why you keep all your Neo Geo games in the basement in a nondescript box, so she'll never find or know about them.

I'll get it either way but I hope there's a LE. I still have the Galleon punchinello from the Babbage's preorder all those years ago. I wanted to offload the fucking thing but no one wanted it on eBay.

And so there it sits.

In that weird curved box.

Staring at me.

Always staring.

Like it wants to be let out....
Still have both my limited PSONE and PSP box sets

How much you askin for the punchinello

Yes I am curious to know how much you want for it which will determine if I am willing to buy it.

Neither, he's just a fucking idiot that wanted everyone to know he owns them.

Not worthy of a retort that would just go over your head. So simply go eat a dick. There that's more on your level, low blow and lowbrow.

Lemme think about what I'd want for it. It's been a while since I tried selling it and I'd want what I consider fair market value. I'll get back to you.

I still have the PS1 versions. I love Working Designs collector's editions. They put such much love and care into them. This re-release is good for folks that don't already have the game, but I'm not double dipping for this.

Physical on Xbox? I wasn't going to buy this, but I feel like getting it just so I can be the only one. Probably worth money someday, just like the last VHS releases.

Amazon is still listing it as 'unavailable'. Not sure if this means they already ran through their physical allotment or if they have a listing but not a window to preorder yet.

I might buy this depending on my mood. I still think the soundtrack for the Sega CD versions were better than the PlayStation ones.

Nah. The Sega CD music is really interesting, unique and nostalgic, and when I booted the Saturn version of SSS at first I was not having it like, "They changed it??" but Noriyuki Iwadare's expansive new soundtrack quickly grew on me. I just feel sorry for you you experienced it on the PS1. :fedora:

I played it on the Sega CD 1st.
Same here.

People act like it's elitist to play the Saturn version. But I was one of those people who had a Saturn, an import ordering place had it listed for $60 and I finally just couldn't wait. Then everyone played FF7 and ignored me for 2+ years when I was saying LunarSSS was great. Then suddenly they were talking about a 3-year-old game and using the name from the MPEG version.

I played it on the Saturn in Japanese but I admit I was super salty when Victor Ireland told people to not bother with the English version on the Saturn which was one of the reasons I bought the system. Not to mention the Genesis II mini in Japan got both Lunar games for the Sega CD portion of the collection but Victor wanted a way larger licensing cut for what amounted to 15 minutes of vocals for the game to be on the U.S. version of the Genesis Mini II.

Seriously fuck that guy.

I was telling people for years it was coming to the US on the Saturn, and then it never materialized.

That's probably the main reason I'm looking forward to these remasters. I want to see the new localization absent the embarrassing translation. It wasn't funny, it was terribly dated and it made it borderline unplayable at some points. I never finished the second game for that very reason.
