I don't remember the main two Lunar games (16-bit originals or 32-bit remakes) ever being a chore. They are fairly low resistance compared to most JRPG's.

Loading times between battles and the battles being not sped up made it a slog, especially while grinding. For example, leveling up to ~10 we're talking like a couple hours, at least, on the originals. Remastered, it's like 45 min.

One of my favorite features on the newer Trails games is Turbo mode. Really helps not having to sit through animations over and over again. Battles are like 30 seconds, which is nice when you only have an hour to kill.

I get that to our modern sensibilities (and perhaps schedules) it makes total sense, and a lot of people just may not want to devote that much time to these old games.

Honestly though, I think being able to speed through battles would really mess with the pacing of the games in ways that of course weren't originally intended, and I think that might weaken the overall experience.

Playing with a Saroo on the Saturn would probably mitigate the load times a lot, if not completely.
