Could the Dreamcast have handled Metal Slug 3?

Given how well MOTW turned out on the Dreamcast, how capable could it have been to run a game like Metal Slug 3?

If they had some decent programmers for it, i think it would have been possible.

It really shouldn't have any problems running it, the DC is ridiculously more powerful than the Neo. The main issue is limitations of ram, but since Slug is a sidescroller it could just have mid level loading like Slug 2 CD if it really had to.

Sure, although the last level would need to load from GD-ROM about a dozen times.

didn't think the gd roms would have any trouble running metal slug 3, considering the games ported to the dreamcast were arcade perfect. i know shenmue 2 was expanded on to four discs, but it was a huge game with great visuals for the time. so it's understandable why people find it hard to believe the dreamcast would struggle running a 2d sprite base game.

Not all the DC SNK ports, although very good, were arcade perfect, at least on the hit detection and the gravity of the game (jumping/wake up game)...I dunno if it's the DC's limitations or the programmer's limitations but it's not all there. I'm not even getting into the pixel count...

The saturn could have handled it. It did slug 1 very well with only the 1MB ram cart. With 4MB...

i'm was planning on making a thread about the dc ports of arcade games and see if any one could point out the differences/setbacks of the games compared to the originals. the first time i remember people complaining about the ports was on street fighter alpha 3. they were saying how inferior it was to the arcade original, were as i couldn't tell a difference, as the same with the neo ports of the dreamcast games.

Yeah, the thing with SFA3 for Naomi and DC have a different hit detection set up, the whole mobility of the game is different. Not bad, I think it excellent, it just doesn't match p to the CPS2 SFA3, the one port that does is the Saturn port, all the good stuff from Upper in the CPS2 ported environment, pretty neat, excellent port, my favorite out of the SFA3 ports.

As for SNK, well the KOF99DM, KOF99Evo, Last Blade 2 all have 240p as does MvC, SFA3, SF3rdS (with a code), the rest of the Capcom and SNK games all run in 480p or 480i...that's just for starters.

I have a couple DC threads in game play. EG did a good job on Vampire Chronicles. There should be one on DC KoFs...

The controls where off in street fighter alpha 3. They also said the controls are off in third strike and MOTW has a black border on both sides of the screen.

The Dreamcast version of Garou didn't turn out all that well IMO. It's probably the worst of them all. It's flawed with input delays. Also, the game needs to read all the sound effects directly from the disc which also creates sound effect delays on top of that and they can get quite ridiculous at times.

the NGPC could have handled MS3, but they (SNK) pretended it was a weaker system in order to peddle shit games to players in the beginning before releasing the big guns, but then something terrible happened, and SNK had to shut down. It was never released what had really happened, but the secret, according to Dion Dakis, was that Chris Rengifo had established a network connection in his toilet candy cab that allowed him to access the Osaka HQ mainframe and search for gay porn, as is his want. It was back when Bibliophile was with him, and Bibs was like "Chris, please wash your hands before hacking the SNK." and Chris was like "Fuck you Waseem. I will strangle you and stab you." And Waseem became very silent, because it reminded him of that time when he told Carmen's husband to put down the bottle.

The one person who knew what happened for real was Chris, but he has remained silent. Only focusing on shemales. Fucking selfish ass. Chris went into the mainframe and found nothing except sprites of characters and old HTML code. In a fit of anger he deleted everything, including a secret document that SNK had that would have been the smoking gun against Dion and Chris R and their secret partner Billkwando, who was, at that time, so rich that he owned Dion. The document had bank accounts of drug lord and hitman clientele and politicians from Europe and Japan who were buying black market carts and official NGF releases of KoF 2000.

I think there's a movie coming out based on that, starring Jeff Bridges and Christopher Walken.

I would like to think that any problem those DC snk port games had was most likely a result of them being rushed and not taking their time to optimized the newer hardware. It happens all the time in PC console port where you have hardware that is 10x more powerful but the game will run like shit or have so many bugs.

I always assumed it wasn't ported and was just emulated on the DC.

I don't think the DC would have had any problems really.

Although LB and MOTW had issues, I'd say that's due to the actual quality of the port more than anything.

The ports of KOF2K, 2K1 and 2K2 were really good in comparison.
