In their defense, these days with MAMES and classic collections, a cabinet could be considered an arcade in its ability to play a multitude of different games. Still...the proper term is cabinet, even if it is a 2,4 or 6 slot Neo-Geo. I myself would call them gaming systems contained in a cabinet :p

Some players don't record so VCR isn't always appropriate. I used to just call one a "video".

I've never seen a VCR that couldn't record.
I've seen tape decks that can't REC/FF/RR but never a VCR.

I had a player because it was cheaper than a recorder. Used the player & the recorder to copy every Cannon movie I watched.
Recorder was 1K DM, player only 400 if I remember correctly.

We called an Arcade a Luna Park ... No idea why.
a cabinet we called it a game or a machine. Cabinet sounds like something your grandma puts her silver spoons in.

Over here, a cab is an Automat and we call(ed) vhs recorders Videorekorder or short Video.

VHS players were a thing when the machines were still quite expensive. Bought my first recorder (single-head system by Siemens) for 800 Deutschmarks but only because the guy who sold it to me was friends with my dad, regular price was 1299 (about $680 in '86 or '87, don't remember exactly) but it was still considered a entry-level system, the better ones cost 2k and up. Recording quality wasn't all that great but I loved the thing anyway, recorded tons of stuff from TV and later on bought another one to copy tapes. The machines also seemed to ignore all those copy protection schemes that got developed over the years. Used them for many years until one of them broke, then I got me a six-head machine with high-speed rewinding and seemless pause recording from Panasonic, best I ever had.
