Most of the game is tap->tap->tap->tap->tap->swing J->cutback repeat in other direction.
Just use the correct shot type when you can, and try to collect the gems when they are glowing with green aura.
Just bomb out the bosses, and try to get the nomiss stage bonus.

Well, Chemmy already topped my PB by 70 million on day 1.

Your points are going to be on stages 4 and 5. Stage 5 alone is 60 million all day for a novice like me - takes Chem's advice and bomb the bosses that you struggle with. It's better to have a mild mulitplier dip when you bomb than a huge dip from a death. I almost always bomb 2nd half of stage 3. There are more bullets throughout stage 4 and def. on 5, but that part of stage 3 is the hardest part of the game (that and the 5th boss).

The game on Steam is Mushihimesama, not Mushihimesama Futari (the sequel). If you don't have a 360 or the PCB, then MAME will be the only option currently.

GREEN-AURA GEMS
To trigger these in Maniac mode, you need to kill enemies when the chaining counter is red and not be holding the A shot when you absorb them. These are worth double the normal gems (large and small), so it’s well worth it to learn how to trigger these if you want to score well. They only glow green for a second or two before they revert back to yellow, so you must be quick and suck them in by letting off the A button.

I actually forgot that the green-aura is a maniac thing, not original I guess. 1.5 Maniac is rather tricky to get your gauge into the red in order to switch to laser for big gems. You have to let popcorn live until enough are on the screen so you can rapid-shot 'C' them and build the gauge, then switch to 'A' to take out a larger enemy or something that cancels bullets. Usually worth building the multiplier to 9999 before you cash in and do a big bullet cancel with your gauge EMPTY.

Ah! Sorry for the noob question, I noticed that the Steam port had a few different versions and I assumed the 1.5 was Futari, my mistake! Looks like I'll be tinkering with MAME!
