I have the Pocky & Rocky remake (remaster...? I always confuse those two) and it is fantastic.

I saw a video review of this the other day and didn't even know it was a thing and it too looks fantastic.

Looks great. What isn't great is no physical for the us version. So that means either playasia or strictly faggers eu copy.

EDIT: I redact my statement. Ever google something and it doesn't show up?

It is indeed very good. The small tweaks to the original's gameplay and the little assists it tosses you if you keep dying are very welcome.

Definitely want a physical copy. Played the demo and was impressed. The remixed music is awesome.

Inin has some potential heaters on their website. @BlackaneseNiNjA have you played Air Twister, &/or the Steel Empire reduxs?
I had a great time with Air Twister and got completely hooked trying to unlock everything in that game lol

As Space Harrier-style games go, I’m looking forward to Asura the Striker next:

I haven’t checked out the Steel Empire remake yet. Thanks for the heads up on that one :buttrock:

Been playing this for a few days now and really enjoying it. Definitely worth the price tag. The difficulty is perfect for me on Normal. Although, they are a bit generous on the respawn checkpoints on death. I haven't played hard yet, but hopefully the checkpoints always start at the beginning or at least limit you on continues. I definitely agree with basically everything in the Electric Underground video. It's a shame they didn't put in an entire game time attack. Hopefully that gets patched in. My only minor gripe is the cover art and splash screen in game. Looks like cheap art. Definitely does not do the game justice. The in game art and music is on point though.

I'm on stage 5 now. Stage 4 is where the difficulty ramps up. One thing I have learned in my short time playing, is do not hoard your weapons. They are much more useful in the stages than on the bosses. At least through stage 4.

BTW, the stage 3 boss is awesome. He could pass for a final boss in any other 16-bit era inspired game. The stage 4 boss, although not as impressive is really fun. She really keeps you on your toes.

I've been looking for some speed runs to see how people progress through stages 1-4. I'm not going to watch an entire playthrough until I beat the game. I'm finding it pretty difficult to make it past some areas unscathed. It will be nice to see how some people navigate the levels.

One tip I would give is do not set dash to double tap forward. There are some areas you will need to rapidly tap without dashing or you will take damage on accident.

So far this game is easily a 9/10 for me. The attention to detail and gameplay mechanics should be par for other retro inspired games.

I have yet to really dive in. Gears of Warhammer: Space Marine II has sent me down a 40K rabbit hole. Now I'm revisiting Space Hulk Ascension on PC and reading way too much lore to give other stuff a try.
SOON.

did a kid draw that cover art?
Seriously, It's embarrassingly bad.

I really like how the sword is at the completely wrong angle than the hand holding it and the girl's mouth being totally off-center. But the cherry on top is the PS1 ass looking 3D title.

Edit: ffs the Japanese art is just as bad. How is that even possible?

Had a longplay of this in the background while working. Game looks great. Glad to see the talent to make these games still exist.

Game looks great but the controls are bad. A lot of input lag.

Quiting from game doesn't save but dying and quitting does.

Already got burned by the dogshit-grade implementation of 2P co-op & weird input latency of The Ninja Warriors: Once Again. Skipping this bungled remake long-term, unless it's eventually discounted like 70% off or more.

Guess it was asking too much for the developers not being idiots keen to drastically tamper w/ the Famicom protagonists' look from 1990. Or at least offer alternative classic homage sprite sets which you can toggle in a menu. Both revised characters are now generic departures- Juvenile as heck, & not unlike some bland "Americanized shonen" tripe imagery you'd find on school stationery, backpacks, & related crap sold at Five Below stores.
