I’m surprised you guys remember all these details about the movies. I suppose the fact that I don’t remember much about any of the films should tell me they’re no good, lol.
I still have paramount+ for a bit longer so I’ll probably rewatch them all before my last month runs out. RIP Chekhov, terrible way to go out.

Eh, they're dumb fun. I like them a lot more than Abrams' Star Wars, that's for sure. It's just that "We're stranded next to the Klingon homeworld, let me just give Scotty on Earth a quick call on his cell" thing was a bridge too far.

Godzilla Minus One.
I like Godzilla movies, moreso if they are actually Japanese. But I dunno I found this one lacking. It wasn't boring, but it also wasn't like balls-to-the-wall destruction which is cool.
As goofy as Godzilla looked in this one, I have to say I like that design better than the recent US design. Yeah I dunno, I didn't dislike it but it also wasn't the most amazing Zil movie I've ever seen.
The one with Matthew Broderick is probably the bes-------------- nah I cant even make that joke.

I saw the Fall Guy and some other movies lately but here’s some 80s/90s crime flicks I watched recently I had never seen before
Blue Steel - Jamie Lee Curtis is a recently new to the job New York Cop on the beat who stops a robbery. A bystander (Ron Silver) takes one of the criminal’s guns and goes on a murder rampage and then gets close to JLC. Directed by Katherine Bigelow no less I thought this was the best of the three. I love Trading Places but am not a big JLC fan. Ron Silver, like Time Cop, places a great 90s villain but them getting close together was a little hokey the way she let him into her circle but nonetheless it was enjoyable and worth a watch.
The Mean Season - Kurt Russel as a Miami Reporter who get caught up with a serial killer who gives him the info on his murders. The killer starts to get too close to him. This was based on a book and the pacing wasn’t the best, but it wasn’t bad, not something I am that interested in watching again.
Red Heat - This is probably one of a few Arnold movies I’ve never seen. He plays a Russian Agent and James Belushi plays the Chicago Cop he works with to bring a wanted Georgian criminal back to the Soviet Union. Arnold to me was good in the role, I don’t mind James Belushi but I didn’t like him in his role. I think this would have been better with more Russian out of water humor a la Rush Hour. I really wasnt a fan. Walter Hill the director did both 48 Hours too and they have a similar pace and direction, but those two I like more.

Extreme Prejudice is a great film, I highly recommend picking up the recent(ish) blu-ray release before it goes oop.
I hope one day Paramount allow Another 48hrs to be released uncut... but alas I can't seeing it ever happening.

Urotsukidōji: Legend of the Overfiend - because, y'know, tentacle rape. Watching the original OVA's as the "theatrical" version is cut to hell.

Lot to catch up on.
Furiosa - A totally solid Max movie with all of the trimmings you'd expect (mutant weirdos, crazy car porn and destruction, amazing chase cinematography and a complete and utter disregard for human life). I could pick nits: Anya Taylor Joy doesn't fit nearly as neatly in this universe as Charlize Theron did, the unnecessary cameo, the much more egregious and obvious CG, could easily lose 15-20 minutes and nothing of value would be lost but ultimately, the whole is way more than the sum of its parts. A worthy addition to the series that cleverly fills out the universe without making the mistakes of so many prequels and obsessing over stupid, minute details. I've seen some people complain that Chris Hemsworth was too broad and goofy but most of the Max villains over the years have been pretty silly.
In a Violent Nature - Really wanted to like this one and the core conceit is clever (homage to/deconstruction of the zombie slasher movies of the Jason variety shown almost entirely from the perspective of the killer) but it's ultimately kind of dull and plodding for large sections of it. It has interesting moments (I enjoyed how the exposition and story beats are kind of background noise taking place in the periphery... almost as though in another movie) and there are some creative, brutal kills but the idea of following the killer around is much less interesting in execution than it is in concept. Probably a third of the movie is just extended sequences of him walking in the woods with purpose. The film would time skip every 10 seconds or so almost as an acknowledgement that having to watch all of this big oaf's journey would be boring as shit. It's the director's first film and it definitely has a very student film vibe to it.
Ending is a big swing and a miss for me though. While I understand what they were going for with the drawn-out metaphor, it sucks all of the tension and air out of the movie IMO. All that said, I may revisit this at some point because I didn't have a great theater experience which may have soured my opinion but can't say that I'd recommend it outside of being curious to see what that idea looks like on-screen.

lol, I've not seen that since I abandoned VHS in the late 90s.
Was fortunate enough to pick up the uncut Anime 18 LD boxset before prices went sky high - it has the original Japanese dub, but with hard encoded English subs.
It's worrying though, that after you've watched the umpteenth rape scene you kinda get desensitized to it...

The season and weather are here for summer horror flicks. How about a Sleepaway Camp/Friday the 13th/The Burning, Jaws/Lake Placid/Piranha 3D/Deep Rising/Tremors/Arachnophobia/Crawl, JC's Vampires/Near Dark/Lost Boys, Cabin in the Woods/Tucker & Dale vs. Evil, or Killer Klowns from Outer Space? So many good options. So many bad options, too: Congo, Deep Blue Sea, The Meg, Club Dread, Cabin Fever, most of the Hills Have Eyes, Wrong Turn, Hatchet, and Children of the Corn series, etc. The Faculty, Disturbing Behavior, Scream, The Craft, Carrie, and Final Destination all seem to be set around the end of the school year.

Ghostwatch
Finally watched this since it's on Shudder and I definitely can get why people think this is a classic. If I had seen this when it first came out, much like I had with Blair Witch (I am one of those people that love that movie), I can see myself having a great affinity for it. But as it stands having first seen it in 2024, I can say I found it enjoyable and have a fair bit of admiration for it, although it's unlikely to become a classic watch for me.
There's some excellent little scares in here and the fact that you can easily miss several of them makes me respect them sticking to the bit. The idea behind it towards the end when everything starts to unravel is interesting, but it doesn't take it far enough with it either. I can't say I bought it as a real live broadcast as it definitely felt "acted" and scripted enough where I couldn't see past that despite obviously knowing it is just a film. But maybe that is just the jaded me knowing too much and being too old thus not allowing my brain to go off into imagination land like it used to be able to do.
All in all: I get it and respect the hell out of it.

Hooo boy, Last House on the Left is insanity. Not in terms of violence but its ridiculous shifts in tone, goofy music, and schlock. Highly recommended as a WTF horror movie.
