I'm not sure what Tom Hardy's beef was with the production of Fury Road but he's a great replacement for Gibson if they still want to do young Max films.
I've heard it said, either here or elsewhere, that the little girl in the flashbacks in Fury Road is not meant to be a retcon but part of a larger story we haven't seen yet where Max was somehow able to make a new life with another woman and that woman's daughter but he lost them too. The little girl in the flashbacks wasn't his biological daughter but a second chance that slipped away from him. If true, I'd love to see a film exploring that. After all, Max went into the Wasteland to lose himself in it. Who's to say that he couldn't ironically find himself there and get repurposed, even if the new family ended up suffering a similar fate as his first family.
I also like the idea that the Wasteland is a separate place from the society that he left behind in the first film. It would be interesting to see what might happen if he tried returning to that with this new family only to discover that he didn't belong there anymore after all the depravity he had to endure in the desert?
Ah well. Does no good to theorycraft. I don't have any say in the franchise's direction so doing that just sets me up for disappointment. Whatever Miller's vision is, I'm sure it'll be fresh and innovative.
If they want to give Gibson another chance, an 'Old Man Max' film wouldn't be the worst idea even though access media would shit its pants if Gibson were to suddenly turn up in a major production. Fuck it. They should just do it anyway.
I will probably see Furiosa tonight with my roommate.

Rikki-oh was a one off I think. The director did a few other films worth checking out such as Erotic Ghost Story and a couple of movies based on the Peacock King manga.

In A Violent Nature
A very interesting and unique take on the Slasher formula--almost felt like a deconstruction of the genre.
Most of the films follows the point of view as a Jason-esque killer that slowly meanders through the woods/countryside taking out local partying teens/rangers. There's some really beautiful cinematography here juxtaposed against the violence occuring or about to occur on screen.
You get to piece together the plot through overhead dialogue, but it is all quite cliched by design so there isn't anything surprising there. But the uniqueness definitely comes from the POV and how the narrative is told.
Some really solid gore (one scene in particular was Terrifier 2 level nuts) and a genuinely creepy killer made for a fun take on a genre done to death.

It's not in the title specifically, but the books/posters all pretty much say "The next entry in The Shining series..." or something like that.Why is it not called The Shining 2?
Also, both versions of it are surprisingly good.

A Better Tomorrow- While not quite as awesome as The Killer or Hard Boiled this is still pretty great. Some classic scenes such as the opening with CYF lighting the cigarette off the money, the hallway/restaurant scene etc. Honestly this era of CYF was just so cool. It definitely helped set the style for a new wave of HK action. Also something that doesn't get mentioned a lot is the score, which is just about perfect. The sequel is also really solid, part 3 has it's moments too but is not in the same league as the first 2.

It’s just occurred to me that calling a sequel #2 doesn’t seem to be common in books but is rampant in film.

Some minor good news.
Instead of getting absorbed by Disney, Sony, Comcast, or WB it looks like Paramount will be purchased by David Ellison. Ellison is a billionaire who owns the movie studio Skydance Media, which produced or co-produced several of Paramount's recent hits anyway like the Mission Impossible movies, the JJ Abrams Trek movies, the later Transformers movies, Top Gun 2, etc. The purchase will include all Paramount, CBS, Viacom, Nickelodeon, MTV, BET, Comedy Central, CMT, VH1, Logo, Pop, TV Land, Flix, Pluto, Showtime, etc brands, networks, franchises, and studios and 49% of Miramax.
Sony and Ellison were the two favorites after it was determined that WB couldn't pile Paramount's debt on top of their own, and the Paramount shareholders favor the Ellison bid. Better that it stays a separate company than be absorbed by one of the others.

Nobody cares.
Godzilla Minus One- Not just a good (great) Godzilla movie but an actual good movie. It's kind of incredible what they were able to accomplish with such a modest budget, kind of puts Hollywood to shame with their $200 million turds. Sure some of the CG isn't up to par but the movie is proof that that doesn't really matter if the movie is actually good. I really enjoyed the post war setting, you don't really see that often anymore. I also appreciated that they kept in a fair amount of criticism for government ineptitude. It was a little overly sappy and predictable but those are pretty minor nitpicks, overall I thought it was thoroughly enjoyable.
I do hope they don't fully abandon the suit-mation and miniatures though. I think there's still a place for that stuff and there's no denying it's charm.

The Fall Guy - Terrible. I made it almost 30 minutes before walking out. Ryan Gosling seems like a nice guy but most of his movies are not for me. Should have known better. 1/5
In A Violent Nature - Mostly boring alternative take on the slasher genre. A good third of the movie was like watching a third person video game. The acting and script were not good to put it mildly. Some solid kill scenes helped and it did finally build suspense in the later stages. Completely devoid of sex, nudity and mostly devoid of fun. I would rather rewatch almost any 70s or 80s slasher film than sit through this again. 2/5

I assumed it was because the Stephen King book is called "Doctor Sleep". But maybe they would have sold more movie tickets, if they'd called it "The Shining 2".Why is it not called The Shining 2?
Probably some people didn't know it was a sequel to that movie, so they didn't go and see it.

I'm sure there's properties I care about in there as well but I'm so sick of having to keep track of who owns what. I guess it's good that Disney didn't end up owning more stuff but really at the end of the day it's just mega corporations playing a game of hot potato. It's not like that stuff was going to disappear or that they're going to stop making Trek, TF etc. If anything this is just going to complicate things more for the end consumer in the long run.

Deal is agreed. 2 billion in cash and 1.5 billion in assumed debts for 66% of Paramount. The remaining 1/3 is owned by existing shareholders.
Crazy low price when you consider AT&T paid over 85 billion for WB back in the day, only to sell it at a loss in the Discovery merger.

what about the part where they can just beam nukes onto enemy ships through their shields?
what about the part where they can just beam to any planet from any other planet?
what about the part where they cured death with tribble blood?
Seems like there are absolutely no stakes in the universe at all and no reason to even have ships anymore.

The only part of the Abrams movies I just couldn't get past was instantaneous communication from Kirk's ship near the Klingon homeworld to Scotty on a handheld communicator in a bar on Earth.
