Well shit. I didnt realize Episode 8 of Invincible would be the season finale. It makes sense where they ended it, sure. But I was really under the impression that we were getting a 10 episode season.
Also I saw a youtube video recently about the difference in art over the course of the series. I honestly never noticed it but there is a bit of a shift. The animation itself looks really cheap and simple compared to the first season. Evidently its because they have like 10 people working on the show instead of several hundred like more popular/recent shows. Still though, animation quality notwithstanding - fantastic season. Probably the best so far.
One thing I wasn't a fan of - and I'll prob get pointed at here but still - was the voice actor they got for Conquest. Jeffrey Dean Morgan is great, and I get that a lot of Walking Dead people are in the show, so it makes sense to have him in there somewhere. But his voice sounded way too young for Conquest. Conquest is several thousand years old, and I'd hoped he'd have sounded a little more gravelly. Old-man voice and all. Still though, he was just as awesome as the comic.
Also - in case someone hasnt watched yet, I'll spoiler this even though its not really spoiling the actual story.
There are several changes they've made that are starting to be more pronounced. Some are so negligible and actually add to the comedy of the show, like Kahor. The running gag over the show so far is that one evil spirit voiced by Clancy Brown that can't seem to catch a break. That's not at all in the comics, but it really does fit with the style of the comics comedy so Im definitely a fan.
Damian Darkblood (obvious pastiche of The Question and Rorschach) doesn't do anything like what he did in the credits scene. That's 100% show specific like Kahor. He shows up here and there in the comic but that's about it.
The Sequids are right on schedule, so that'll be cool to see next season. Also they haven't expanded on the Flaxans that much and that's worrisome. The Flaxans are the race from another dimension that age really quickly. In the show, Nolan presumably destroys their planet. But... their dimension is REALLY important for something closer to the end of the comic's run. Like - really important. So Im hoping they at least show up a few more times like they did in the comics as a "throwaway" villain until the time comes.
Tech Jacket, Brit, Astounding Wolf-man, Best Tiger and other Capes Inc / Guarding the Globe characters have been teased and I hope they show up more. Tech Jacket hasn't spoken yet but hes been in a few scenes, most notably in the Invincible War and at the funeral scene. Wolf-Man had his own book as well and he was swapped in for the show in the scene where an Invincible says "Ive killed you before, I'll do it again..." He actually says that to Spawn in the comics. Also, Brit was voiced by Jonathan Banks, so I can't imagine they got him for a one-off. I never knew I needed Brit to sound like Mike Ehrmantraut and now I realize I did.
And lastly:
This is a warning, 'duf - if you dont want story spoilers for upcoming story arcs for much later in the story - don't click down here.
The Flaxans are very very important. Or at least their dimension is. It is a large part of the reason one of (actually two of) Invincible's most trusted friends betray the entire planet, hold it hostage (beyond the Viltrumites) and ending up as a brain in a bottle by the end of the series. Im pretty sure by context clues that you know who I'm referring to, but yeah. I hope they build on the Flaxans again.
