4K output is interesting - CRT filters should look better than any of their previous systems.

No funtastic colors for the colors?

N64 is great for the few number of games it has but the library is pretty small. The system really lacks in third party games and rpgs. Controller is decent but prone to breaking due to friction.

The system still has some of my favorite games of all time.

In any case it makes me wonder if the simulation will be good. N64 emulators kinda suck and have a lot of input lag. Which is a shame since they fix a lot of problems the original games had on og hardware like not being 60 frames, higher resolution, and without that shitty blur filter.

N64 core on the MiSTer is pretty good. Kevtris does the programming for Analogue and his work has been solid.

It's cheaper to outright buy a 64 and all the good games. Especially factoring in the ones now ported with better versions. I think I have Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon, Ogre Battle, Mischief Makers, Fighters Destiny, Wave Race, Revenge, and still need F-Zero. That's about it for me on the 64.

I always see people comparing the PS1 to the 64 on reddit and Facebook groups. Nintendorks will defend the 64 like it's the best thing ever. They legitimately think the console is better than the PS1. Referring to games like Pokemon Snap and Mario Party. System is one level above trash tier as far as the library is concerned. With possibly the worst first party controller ever made and atrocious video output.

Also, what's the deal with the Mario 64 and DK64 fanatics? Both games are just littered with worthless crap to collect. I don't understand how people think running around lost looking for random items strewn across a map is fun. I understand Mario 64 is fun, but it has some really bad design choices. Donkey Kong 64 straight up sucks though.

I did pick up an N64 again 6/7 years ago. Recompleted Zelda OTT, got half way through Majoras Mask, played a few levels of Goldeneye, it’s collected dust ever since.

Yes the N64 was a good party console or FPS machine (Goldeneye, Turok, Perfect Dark, Quake, Doom 64) for its time but those games are almost unplayable today with crappy low frame rates that would now make my eyes bleed.

I can see a casual gamer getting one of these for their living room to play Mario Kart 64 and Goldeneye with their mates with of a certain era. Maybe.

At least the new controller might be an improvement on the original.

This is basically why it suck’s just a bunch of aimless collectathons but there are a few gems.

I wonder what Mario 64 would have looked like if it actually finished up on SNES FX2 like it was supposed to at the start of development.

It would probably look like balls.

If balls where made out of untextured low res square polygons.

At this point, they'd be better off creating a full-fledged Neptune with SG1000/SMS/GEN/32X/CD support.
Or go back to making a bespoke consolized MVS again.
