It seems like From’s Souls DLCs always favored the difficulty fetishists. I’m disappointed to hear they may have gone too far this time. I’m in no hurry to play the DLC so we’ll see - maybe they’ll do some changes or maybe I’ll have to look up some cheese strats lol.
FWIW, there already are RL1 zero-blessing videos of people beating the final boss, and they're incredibly instructive about the "legit" way to do it regardless of the build you have.

The last boss is the only one I used Jolly Co-operation for. The rest were solo or mimic tear. It's a difficulty spike, definitely. (I had Thiollier and Ansbach on my side for the royal rumble and I fucked up Freyja's questline so she wasn't there as an opponent.)

As for Sekiro... There's no denying that Sekiro is From's most tuned game, since every player is going to go through it with, essentially, the same "build," but I don't know if I would have beaten that game at all without Tyrannicon's "how to easily kill" guides which focus on juking the ai.

Can you share a few of these vids of people beating the final boss? I'd like to know what their strats were.

If you aren't into NG+ and are still on your first playthrough, you may fare better.

My mistake in that regard was not starting over with a new build. I had, I don't know, this crazy idea about keeping my progress since it was offered to me as an option.

There is one way they could fix all these issues. Don't buff the bosses if you bring cooperators or use a Summon. That, in and of itself, would resolve a lot of issues. It almost disincentivizes you to use one of the tools the game gives you. It's retarded.

But I still love these games.

Im on NG+ (wanted to keep the golden wave) and as far as the DLC's difficulty itself, its not so bad. Its just the bullshit hippo rush thats pissing me off. I plan to cheese his ass this evening so we'll see how that goes.

Let me try to do this. Earlier I couldn't figure out how to upload an image with spoiler tags without it showing up in the attachments. Old man over here.

Okay, I managed to get past various silliness and into Abyssal Woods. I think Miyazaki should send a few bottles of wine to those interns that designed DS 2's levels that he threw under the bus, I mean c'mon this is just bad. There's zero guidance unlike the main game while a bunch of Metal Gear sentries and sound mines fuck you with Frenzy.

Honestly, I think the bad map is my main problem with Erd. You just kind of point in a direction and hope for the best and then it turns out that there was a tunnel 10 miles away that you were supposed to go to instead of getting your ass kicked here for Somber Smithing Stone plus 5. And it just keeps happening. And the bosses are a bunch of hippos and reskins.

I sort of get why they got rid of map guidance from a lore perspective but fuck me it does not help the gameplay.

Last post was definitely a rant, this one I guess is more just I'm not mad I'm just meh.

Edit why in tf could From just not have used the Bloodborne DLC template for balancing this? That was tuned for level 150+ builds, just like everything that Team Ninja made/copied, and it worked. The area design would still have been completely bizarre but getting through it might have been a little less annoying.

edit again ok I suppose now I have to reinstall this damn thing and finally finish it. Can't have From stuff hanging like Senator Armstrong is.

Edit Good on ya Taiso!

I beat the last boss tonight.

It was satisfying to get the win but not worth the trouble. All the new stuff, all the new weapons and gimmicks and items from the DLC and it was just me with Blaidd's Armor set, Golden Greatshield +25 and Cold Greatsword +25 w/Upward Cut and Mimic Tear. The strat I've been using ever since I first found the Greatsword during my initial playthrough.

In my opinion, he's the toughest boss in the entire game and it's not even close. Been stuck on him for days. Not even Malenia gave me this much trouble.

Latest patch (1.13) moves the Golden Hippo and Gaius to their original positions in the back of the arena for rematches and nerfs Rolling Sparks.

LOL this update.

Translation: We've heard your complaints and we decided to make it harder by removing exploits.

Yes, I understand that removing these exploits is crucial to balancing PvP.

But hey, two of the bosses start farther away from you after they kill you once.

From Software is the Crom of video games.

I read an interesting bit of criticism of the Scadutree Fragment/Blessings/Whatever.

Apparently there are only 50 and you need that many to get to max buff in the DLC. The criticism was that they thought there should have been 65-70 much like there are more upgrade items for your Flask that you can use.

Also I spoiled myself on the last boss by accident. Can’t say I’m to mad at myself, I’m actually more intrigued about the story. I think when I play this I’ll do what I can blind but I’m not opposed to using guides if it is as hard as it is. I always use summons anyway. Jolly Cooperation rules.

Miyazaki's honor now depends on Joe posting a hitless win.
I've had a weird few days so I haven't been in the headspace for gaming, but hearing people call the last boss bullshit that needs perfect play to beat makes me so excited to fight it for hours on end.

I know people tend to get frustrated by fights sometimes, but I've learned to zen the fuck out doing this and it is honestly kind of cathartic for me.

I will admit that the last boss is the first time in ages where I felt satisfaction improving in the fight. It was akin to the first time I beat a boss in the original Dark Souls or mastering Ninja Gaiden on the original Xbox. Maybe Sekiro, too. When you notice you've gotten better through sheer effort, it's always a good feeling. I don't chase this emotion anymore, however.

I wouldn't say that you need to be perfect to beat him but there is VERY LITTLE room for error. You fuck up during the wrong combo and you are starting over. He hits like a truck. Given who the boss is, it all makes sense, even if it feels like From Software fell a bit too enamored with their lore in this case. If From Software is a dungeon master, that last boss is their overpowered NPC that they're too in love with and its at the player's expense.

I may go back and do the dragons at some point. I don't know. Right now I'm running through the main game again with some of the new toys I got from the DLC. It's been fun.

So... Should I just get Sekiro instead of the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC?

Get both. From Software is a good company and has earned our loyalty, even if Shadows of the Erdtree is ridiculous.

It's why I buy every Vanillaware game that comes out. Show your love!

I wish they’d port all of Vanillaware’s games to PC/Steam.
They're a great company. If you have a system that can play Unicorn Overlord, I highly, HIGHLY recommend it. It's the best game I've played this year and it's not even close.

Dragon's Crown still holds up, as do both of the Capcom Dungeons & Dragons beat 'em ups (which some of those guys worked on).

Saw this on YouTube and I couldn't stop laughing. The build is legit but the video is hysterical. Fans will understand.

Yeah, Dragons Crown was excellent. I wish it wasnt a Sony exclusive. I enjoyed the Unicorn Overlord demo. I just want to play both on my Steam Deck. I’ll probably snag Unicorn Overlord at some point for Series X.
