Falling is falling. Gymnasts, pro wrestlers, stuntmen, judokas, dancers, they all learn the same basic breakfalls and rolls. There's no magic trick that makes you immune to injury but any sport that has falling will teach you some simple principles that will help you.

I havent fallen down in over 20 years. I ache at the thought of it.

I got into skating back in 1985 at the tender young age of 6 just after seeing Back to the Future.

I got out of skating about a week later when my brother tore up his arm going down a neighbors hilly driveway and my mom threw away the boards.

Man if I had stuck with it at that young age I could been the next Bam Magera…

Tore my ACL several years ago but I still like cruising. I ride my bike more often though. Board is a Vision Psycho Stick reissue and the bike is a 95 GT Mach One.
Got those same wheels but in orange so smooth

Elbows and kneed are scarred up for life, done with it. Can't recall the last deck I had but for some reason remember the wheels (spitfires). Anyways gave it away to a pair of young brothers who were learning on a real POS deck across the street before I moved outta that place and never skated since.

One of my fav iconic vids

At your age, just be happy with this and call it a day.

That's not an insult, btw.

I know and you're exactly right. But it is still fun for me and I'm still discovering muscles I didn't even know existed.
For me it is the perfect sport. None of the sporty atitude, people from all walks off life and none of that lemmings behavior that group sports normally tend to have. You can do what ever nobody cares but everybody helps out if you want it. Achieving something new always feels amazing. Even if my progress is at a slugs pace.

This dude is my favorite skater of the last few years. Dude just goes hard and fucking soars plus he’s the chillest nicest guy around.

To be quite honest, I think Anderson is this generation's Rodney Mullen. All of the tricks he does and even down to his board design which is incredible in its own right, are just things that solidify that he is truly in a class all himself like Mullen was/is.

This is probably a stupid question, but I rarely let that stop me.

How is a skateboard as a mode of transport? I only seem to see people using skateboards to fuck around with (nothing wrong with that), but are they actually useful if you want to go somewhere? Better than walking?

I used to see people using them in the city (Boston) quite often back in the day as a means of transport.

I avoid Boston at all costs these days, but in other cities I need to go to those motorized scooters seem to have taken over so I assume it's likely the same case there as well.

There’s a guy around our age (40s) that rides my train. He rides his skateboard from the train parking lot to the train platform (it’s like a 5 minute walk).

I assume once he gets into Boston he riders his board to get from the station to his office.

He’s all done up in slacks and button down shirts etc. At first I thought he was wicked cool but then I saw that he drives a Kia.
