Been getting into the Sega Mega Drive lately. Mainly because there is such an active development scene. It's just a really fun console to be into right now. Tons of new physical releases, and demos you can toss on an Everdrive. There has been some high-quality stuff recently, and more on the horizon

Some games here you all will know because they have AES releases. Many are exclusive to the Mega Drive though.

I'm going to post a few I found here, and hope you all share what you find. I have some more to post later, but I'm running out of time right now.

I would like to keep this thread going as long as there are quality games to keep an eye on.

I'm glad that the current Western devs are able to utilize the genesis sound chip better than Western devs could back in the 90s.

Genesis seems like a sweet spot where you can have one person or a small team put in a lot of work and come up with something on par with the commercial releases of the day. It still takes lots of time and effort but less is needed to reach that level of quality than something like a PS2 game.

Either of you Genny homebrew guys have thoughts on Pier Solar? I guess it would've been one of the earlier real attempts at MD/Genny homebrew. It looked cool but by the time I had heard of it and thought of picking it up it was g00b priced.

"Already have teh r0m?" :keke: Lemme know, I'd like to throw it in my Everdrive and give it a whirl one of these days.

Play the beta rom. I had more fun with that than when I got the real game for some reason. Too grind-y perhaps.

I swear that the SGDK has been a blessing for the Sega Mega Drive scene. It went from little demos to full-on games that dwarfs some of the western crap that walked on the console back in it's heydays.

Yeah, it's a really good time to be into the Mega Drive. Not sure how I feel about farm simulator. Probably not for me, but I'm sure it will appeal to some.

They still have Zero Tolerance and an updated version of Darius in stock on that same website. The Zero Tolerance includes the original, and the never released part 2. I might have to pick those 2 up.

Zero Tolerance has a Genesis and mega drive version. The Mega Drive version box art is much better, but I'm not sure if it will work on the Genesis.

It's almost too much.
I grab one here and there if they are full featured games. I don't need some knock off puzzle game clone just because it's on a dead console.

You got that right. It's kind of overwhelming. You have to wade through all the turds, but there are some real gems that have recently came out, and upcoming.

Some are excellent, while some are utter crap. That's the way of life when it came to these consoles back in the day and even now with these homebrew releases.

The graphics looked a little "homebrewy" last I checked into this, but with your post, curiosity shot up.
I really had no idea it was going to have basically an entire second game in between the run and gun stages that is totally just metroid. The metroid map is fucking enormous. They actually have an option in the game where you can just play the run and gun sections (which ive been tempted to do at points because metroid is not my fav) but ive stuck with it because its actually really friggin well done.

Exactly what I thought when I saw it, but it looked like it could be OK. The Cursed Knight caught my attention as well.

Is it still up for sale? The website attached to the Kickstarter keeps hanging.

I've been trying to snag all these RetroBit releases why I can, but I have most of the ones I want already.

I'm going to grab Secret of the Four Winds while it's still up for preorder cause it looks like it's going to be solid. Then I may grab Cursed Legacy. Kinda been eye'ing Demons of Asteborg and Astebros though.

Read my posts in the “post your recent purchases” thread about secret of the four winds before you purchase. You will see how i went from loving it to being totally underwhelmed about midway through.

I will definitely check that out.

What you all think about this 2nd Toaplan Collection? Pre orders end in about 2 weeks. I'm not sure if I want to pick up this compilation, or just GrindStormer. I never played Slap Fight, and watching some videos, I don't think it looks very impressive.

I think one of the games in the collection had to be removed due to copyright issues. Somebody mentioned it in another thread, i believe.

Yep just checked. Twin cobra was removed so now its not even gonna be a 3 game box set. I would just pick up grind stormer.
