Except Yaiba.

Ya’ll mocked me when I said Ninja Gaiden > Shinobi.

And again when I said 3D Ninja Gaiden > 2D Ninja Gaiden.

But I was right. I’m always right. When will you people learn?
About this?

You were right.

And so was I.

Shinobi is cool. The PS2 game is pretty fucking dope.

But Ryu Hayabusa >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Gay Hotsuma and all other ninjas.

Hayabusa is the great
est ninja in whole world
all other ninjas are
liked by lit
tle girls

Strider Hiryu is awesome though. So is Snake Eyes. And Hotsuma.

But they are pansies compared to the Dragon Ninja of the Hayabusa clan.

EDIT: This is some 2004 faggor energy I'm bringing here. DON'T CARE!

And rightfully so. Shinobi III is the best 2D ninja game, and it's not particularly close. Hell, the best 2D Ninja Gaiden may be the underappreciated beat'em up.

3D may be a different story, but this is a Neo Geo forum, so that barely matters. It does make me uncomfortable to agree with fami though.

Yes, I am still buying a Platinum developed Ninja Gaiden every bit as fast as I would buy a Platinum developed Shinobi.

And my game doesn't even work.

Defeated before I even saw a single ninja...

I completed very hard mode and am now on chapter 2 of master ninja difficulty. It’s been a solid variant of Sigma 2 so far. Interested in seeing the additional tweaks made in the latter half of this difficulty mode.

Let us know if enemy placement changes. That seems to be the biggest, but not only, quibble about this new version.

I personally enjoyed my playthrough.

I know that Razor's Edge gets a lot of heat but I love that game so much. It's the easiest of the three games and I don't think Team Ninja knew what they were doing without Tomonobu Itagaki helming the project but I still think it's hella fun. It has issues but at the end of the day, i enjoyed it very much. Working on unlocking costumes for the extra characters in the Switch port of Razor's Edge.

Same, currently working on master ninja. Mentor felt like a cake walk, but master ninja feels more challenging for sure. So far it's still the same enemy counts but they can pretty much one shot you, at least in the first couple chapters. Having a good time overall.

Same, I’m having a great time with this version. Though I’m sure it won’t be anywhere close to the NG2 original, I’m definitely curious to see how the staircase fight is handled on master ninja.

Tons of enemy placement changes from NG2 (due to having NGS2 as the base), but the encounters were pretty much similar to NGS2 with differences in some key fights and with more enemies seemingly appearing in “waves” sometimes. On very hard mode, certain fights like the fight near the fountain in the aqua capital seemed to have a higher count, while the water path in the same stage remained derelict (no enemies to fight on the water, nor any explosive jellyfish to deal with).

Overall the encounters are nowhere near NG2, but that’s where the extra boss encounters in NGS2 used to help fill the gap sometimes. Now many of those extra bosses have been removed to help bring the experience closer to NG2. However, I jump back and forth between NG2 and NGS2 often and I actually kinda missed having the extra boss encounters to deal with lol

Nice :buttrock:
Agreed. Back when I completed NGS2 on master ninja (originally in 2012, I think) all grabs on master ninja in that version were also essentially one-hit-kill attacks until the latter half of the game after the player had a few life of the thousand gods upgrades. NG2B still seems to retain the grab damage scaling, though the enemies do not seem to have the same increased health that they had in NGS2, or perhaps the increased de-limb rate is simply allowing me to execute them faster in this version lol I’ll see more as I progress further in this mode.

Playing the OG NGII on Warrior and this shit is kicking my ass.

Been playing too many Soulsborne games these past few years and it's taking my brain some getting used to the flow of this.

It’s a different mindset for sure. Abuse the izuna drop move/combo/input with your weapon of choice for crowd control and easy splash damage.

If you’re just starting your run and don’t have izuna drop yet, abuse the “XXY” combo with the dragon sword on regular ninja/humanoid enemies. The last “Y” hit in the “XXY” combo is pretty much guaranteed to remove the enemy’s limb allowing you to quickly finish them with an obliteration technique by immediately pressing “Y” again after the combo ends.

Landing after a jump and immediately pressing Y/Triangle to absorbing nearby essence for an instant ultimate technique against enemies is key to dealing tons of damage (and having invincibility while performing the super move) on any difficulty.

Lastly, you pretty much always want to be holding block and flicking the stick in a direction to constantly dodge/dodge jump to avoid being grabbed. You’ll be able to navigate enemy encounters more safely by moving this way since you’re always prepared to block incoming projectiles and enemy attack strings.

Like with Souls/Sekiro, the rest just becomes reflexes and muscle memory :buttrock:

These are all techniques I employ when playing these games. They're tried and true, bread and butter survival skills.

And yes, these games are pure muscle memory. About an hour in, I was remembering how to play all over again. They have their own pace, unique to them. No other video games play quite the same if you know what you're doing.
