I love Borderlands but I’m going to pass on the film, lol.
Just like the World of Warcraft movie this came out waaaay too late. The best time to have released this was after Borderlands 2 or even have it coincide with the launch of Borderlands 3.
But turns out the movie is dog shit anyway, lol…
…and they just announced Borderlands 4.
Man, time to fucking move on.

Yeah it's weird, it's been up for a couple days and there are multiple videos. It's not even a shady link in the description or even someone who filmed it on their phone or something. It's literally just the entire movie in HD and no one seems to give a fuck.
But yeah even for free no one is watching it lol

The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly - the third, and final, film in Sergio Leone's "Man With No Name" / "Dollars" trilogy. Another classic, some call the "definitive" spaghetti western... I dunno, it's really good, but I think I prefer "For a Few Dollars More".
I thought it might suffer from its near three hour run time, but it actually goes by pretty well, sagging just a little around 1.5 hour mark when Blondie and Tuco are in the church. On the flip side, there is probably a fair bit could have been cut/trimmed and it would still have been a great film.
Despite headlining it, Eastwood, nor Lee Van Cleef, get anywhere near as much screen time as Eli Wallach's "Tuco", and although I'd have liked to have seen more of Van Cleef (he was awesome in For a Few Dollars More), Wallach is supremely watchable, with a very entertaining performance as the scheming Tuco.

Bram Stoker's Dracula - I seem to recall a bunch of people talking about it here recently and I happened to catch a showing to begin spooky season. A technical masterwork (every practical fx movie trick in the book, amazing wardrobe and costumes, a wild variety of monster effects that are sometimes only seen in 3-second blips) saddled with a cornball script that's too theatrical and melodramatic for the often sleazy and exploitative tone of the rest of the movie. Gary Oldman and Anthony Hopkins clearly realized this early on and just put their nuts on the table and tried to out ham each other in every scene. It might be the broadest performance of Gary Oldman's career and that's saying something for a man that has an entire section of the meme encyclopedia dedicated to him overacting. Keanu Reeves' accent is famously terrible and fleeting but Winona Ryder honestly isn't much better. It drags on and on for large portions of the movie and then hurriedly wraps everything up in the last 30 minutes so the pace is kind of off and seems like it was failed by the edit.
It has some of the best individual moments of any Dracula movie ever made and it's a gorgeous looking movie but it's such a weird, muddled mess. It's 100% entertaining... it's got blood and boobs and big stars yelling their lines. It's just sometimes silly in its earnestness and there's some sore thumb performances.

Watched it yesterday.
Obviously, it's bad.
Shockingly, it is way more boring than I expected.
The good:
Sets/look -- It did actually kind of look like Borderlands in terms of aesthetics. A lot of the sets were very small, but honestly thought they fit the universe quite well.
Tiny Tina/Claptrap/Marcus: Tiny Tina and Claptrap were well represented as they were both incredibly annoying and I hated them; therefore they were game accurate. Marcus was in this for a mere couple minutes and he was easily the most accurate and best character to transition from game to movie.
Dialogue: Krieg said "Lovely meat fiesta!" in the last few minutes of the film and it was legit my only *chuckle* and real enjoyment I got out of the entire film.
The bad:
Everything else.
I'm sure most people have read/watched reviews and they're all correct. Personally though, I was still shocked by how boring it was. It is a fairly action-heavy movie, but it is all just dull. I don't know if it is the obvious editing from R to PG13 or just really basic and cliched action scenes/sets, but it is all so lifeless.
Also, it was a weird choice to make the main villain a super generic business guy instead of Handsome Jack or maybe any other antagonist with an extreme look/personality type (of which the games have loads of...) from the games. I'm a fairly big fan of the games and having a good Handsome Jack actor doing him, even if the rest of the movie stayed the same mess, would have provided some kind of enjoyment.

The beginning of the the movie with Vlad is just so fucking cool. His armor is so badass.

They're number one and number two for sure. The Good, the Bad, & the Ugly being a pretty close third, and Once Upon a Time In America not too far behind that. Once Upon a Time In the West is maybe my #1 film in general. For me, I think the character introductions are probably the most unforgettable parts. But the composition within the frame in each second of the movie is so masterful that I really think it's a fucking tragedy Leone wasn't a painter.
Obviously, there are a lot of great shots and perfect compositions in Good, Bad, Ugly, Duck, You Sucker, and Once Upon a Time In America, But with Once Upon a Time In the West, it's every single shot, beginning to end, the entire freaking movie. It's almost exhausting how perfect it is visually. For some mysterious reason, for that one year, Leone was operating well above his already high level.

Tetris- Eh, it was alright. I've seen a couple in depth YT videos on all the licensing shenanigans behind the game so I was already familiar with a lot of it. They did a pretty good job making it easy to follow the web of fuckery surrounding the game. Of course they had to add in a bunch of invented shlocky drama and high stakes tension otherwise it would be pretty boring to a normal viewer. I will say the actors were all very good and it was fairly engaging. Worth a watch I guess.
Side tangent: I got a free trial of Apple TV+ and man does it suck. I've heard Severance is very good and a couple of the documentaries look interesting but man for the most part it's a bunch calculatedly bland middle of the road content. Everything is just so Apple I can smell the beige smugness through the screen.

I think this is worth it's own post and didn't want to lump it in with Tetris.
Lifeforce- Naked space vampires found in an ancient spaceship hidden inside of Haley's Comet wreak havoc in London. Tobe Hooper's bizarre sci-fi/horror gem is not a great movie but it is a great bad movie and is definitely a lot of fun. It's absolutely ludicrous plot wise but it doesn't really matter, I mean the centerpiece of the entire movie is a fully naked woman walking around and literally sucking the life out of people. You just kind of have to go with it. There's a strange atmosphere to the movie that's made even weirder by being essentially a British Cannon production, which actually fits the movie quite well. There's a ton of impressive practical and optical effects, they really went all out with this one. Aside from the silly plot it's also a clunky feeling movie and oddly paced. But it's all so strange and entertaining that it's easy to overlook a lot of the issues with the movie.
All the stuff Hooper made with Cannon is interesting. He did this, Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 and Invaders From Mars. All of which I think are kind of under rated.

I can't remember the source, but I heard/read somewhere once about the amount of coke Hooper was doing during the filming of Lifeforce was of truly epic proportions.
Also: TCM2 rules.
I hated that movie for a while until I looked at it differently and appreciated it for its pure insanity--some truly excellent and crazed performances in that movie.

Dennis Hopper said he was so coked up and drinking so heavily he didn't even remember making TCM2. Supposedly they didn't even pay him they just gave him a daily allotment of coke and booze.

Got this recently from a mobile phone change but havent activated it yet. I watched the first season of Foundation when it came out and wasnt impressed. I do love Severance though. You can also try Silo, that's pretty good.
Beyond that I dont know what the service offers.

The recent comic book largely follows the comedic tone of the second film and it's a lot of fun to read, as well.

The Velvet Underground- An award winning feature length documentary by Todd Haynes. This goes pretty in depth and covers how all the members met, formed the band, got promoted/produced by Warhol through to their break up when Lou Reed decided to quit and go solo. Very thorough and very self indulgent, not something I would recommend to the average person. But if you have an interest in the band or just the New York avant-garde art scene happening in the mid 60's it's worth checking out as it covers a lot of that. My main complaint is that it's overly long, it's 2 hours and it feels like it.
