The Guyver- Yup the live action one with Mark Hammill and Jimmy Walker in all of its goofy glory. Truly embarrassingly goofy, a poor adaptation of the source material, awkward and sloppy action, terrible acting and totally nonsensical but despite all that there's still something there that makes it all bizarrely enjoyable.

Hadn't seen this in probably two decades but it's everything that I remember from lazy weekend afternoons on cable. For all the movie's issues one thing you can't fault it for is its practical effects and they definitely hold up. Screaming Mad George and his team put in some serious work on the costumes. Unfortunately this suffers from the big problem that most tokusatsu stuff does and that's that the action basically ends up being guys in rubber suits flailing around. Still as a early 90's time capsule and effects showcase it's pretty fun. Also I had completely forgotten that Linea Quigley, Jeffery Combs and David Gale were in it.
A clip of this showed up on my video feed a few days ago. The Guyver unit initially attaching itself to the main character is still really something. Urgh.

Deadpool & Wolverine - Holy iMovie. I laughed a few times, though.

I do not regret buying the new 4K collectors edition for this, I highly recommend the directors commentary.

Rambo (2008) - Stallone's long awaited return to the iconic role of John Rambo. Simple "rescue the hostages" affair mixed with a poke at the atrocities being committed during the Burmese civil war. Film moves along at a very nice click and the action sequences are really well done, and the supporting cast is pretty good - although Graham McTavish's character is a bit of a stereotype. Well worth a watch if you want to switch your brain off for 90 minutes and watch Stallone do his one-man army thing at its best and most OTT.

I liked both of the most recent Rambo films. And Rocky Balboa was an excellent coda to that series too.

Deadpool 3
-it is ok, it does more with it's cameos than Doc Strange 2 did but as each movie with Deadpool has lowered in quality I will stand on the hill that Domino was THE best thing about the last movie and its a damn shame after carrying it she doesn't get a cameo here. When is the next Spidey movie cause that's all I'm looking forward to.

Agree on all fronts. Zazie Beetz as Domino was so great. Mainly because Im absolutely in love w her, but yeah.

I liked DP3, but it felt like it concentrated more on the *insert Leo DiCaprio pointing and whistling meme* effect than plot. There's definitely a plot and it kinda sorta furthers the MCU story, but not as much as it was touted to be.

It was nice seeing Jackman back in the role, but I hope they don't "make him do it until hes 90." Best Wolverine cameo was not you-know-who, but the comic book accurate height Logan XD That was awesome.

Man, people are really tearing Borderlands a new asshole.

A video game movie directed by Eli Roth, starring Kevin Hart that spent years in development and post production hell. Who would have thought?

Yeah make a blatant Guardians of the Galaxy/Suicide Squad knockoff and have the guy behind Green Inferno direct it. Oh yeah, and it has to be PG-13. Brilliant.

Yellow Fever- A feature length documentary on the history and impact of Giallo. Not bad, pretty straight forward with good interviews and lots of footage. They covered most of the heavy hitters; Bava, Argento, Fulci, Sergio Martino and a couple other notables. The music and style which were incredibly influential on generations of filmmakers. It also explored the common themes a bit deeper than other similar documentaries. I really appreciated that they didn't waste time talking about bad movies. So many documentaries and video essays I've seen try to cover lesser known films and with giallo so many are mediocre or just flat out bad that they're essentially a waste of time. Recommended to anyone with an interest in the genre.

None of the casting makes sense. Hart’s character is the straight man in games. LOL, wut we’re they thinking?

Also could the movie have come out at a worst time? No one gives a fuck about Borderlands anymore. A movie should have released after Borderlands 2.

I hope any more videogame adaptations take a look at the Last of Us or Fallout.

To me this is the best in the series besides the original First Blood, which obviously stands far above the rest.

Pretty sure I saw him in the trailer for a second. I'm honestly surprised anyone is willing to hire him.

Yeah the casting is totally fucked, not to mention a huge waste of money. Why studios continue to think they need to pack movies like this with A listers and completely disregard the source material is beyond stupid. I have heard Jack Black is the best thing in the movie but why pay that sort of money when they could you know... maybe... hire the original voice of Claptrap.

Apparently it was in post production with re-shoots for 3 years and in development for 6 years before that. Initially it was written by the guy behind Chernobyl and The Last Of Us, then they brought Eli Roth on to direct and he started rewriting it and the Chernobyl guy didn't want anything to do with to the point of having his name removed it lol.

This should have been an R rated animated mini series, it would have cost a fraction, been more accurate and packed in a ton more lore and character development. Instead they completely squandered the IP and pissed of the entire target audience.

Hollywood and the AAA game industry have a lot in common at this point. Both are turning out expensive unfinished garbage no one asked for while trying to appeal to the broadest possible audience but ultimately pleasing nobody.

Man, can you imagine a beautifully drawn Borderlands animation? That would have been incredible. I'm sure the movie is a CGI snooze fest because the only other way you're going to get the aesthetic of the series (at least the world of Pandora) is going to down the Mad Max route and have tone of awesome practical effects.

Speaking of animationNone of you watched it, and none of you should (and also don't play the game) but Ark: The Animated Series was a competent adaptation of the story of the game and it had a stupid amount of A-Listers. The voice credits are actually wild.

Al Pacino's Scent of a Woman and Terminator 2 with its special effects from T-1000 Robert patrick 1991 were some of the best movies I've ever seen. There are so many good movies, so it would be an eternal debate.

@terry.330 I’ve been waiting like 7 pages to read your thoughts on Executioners.

Set sometime after the events in The Heroic Trio, the girls are back.

Both of them are fun to watch; I can’t decide which one I like better.

My favorite Michelle Yeoh movie is Wing Chun tho. Watching her single handedly whip most of feudal China’s ass, is a treat.

Hmm. Way too many to comment on all but a few...
  1. Storm Warning - okay this is the buried lede. REALLY fucking good if you like having your skin crawl. Basically The Strangers in reverse, just unpleasant in all the best ways. Highly recommended if you like home invasion movies at all.
  2. Furiosa - kind of... meh. Hemsworth was fun but the script really did not do any favors for Anya Taylor-Joy. Boring. Never thought I'd say this but I'm not too sad to hear that the new Rockatansky flick is probably canceled.
  3. Doomsday - Neil Marshall is amazing at set-pieces and bad at everything else. I get that now.
TL;DR, go watch Storm Warning.

It's in the Criterion set with Heroic Trio but I haven't gotten to it yet. I saw it decades ago on VHS and didn't think it was anywhere near as good as HT. I think it might even have come out the same year, I know they really rushed it to capitalize on HT success.

Electric Boogaloo: The Wild Untold Story Of Cannon Films- Feature length documentary about the notorious 80's film company charting it's rise and inevitable fall. This one is pretty well known but has been kind of hard to watch for the last few years, thankfully it's on Prime now. Great interviews, tons of incredible clips and behind the scenes stuff. It really is mind blowing just how many movies they managed to crank out before everything collapsed. If you grew up watching this stuff I can't recommend this enough. A word of warning though, there is a metric ton of nudity in the first third or so, be careful who you watch it around.

Electric Boogaloo
It's crazy the staying power this title had for our generation. I've never seen Breakin' 2. I don't think any of my friends have ever seen it (or 1, for that matter). But that doesn't stop us decades later, whenever a movie that doesn't deserve a sequel gets one, from calling it Whatever-Whatever 2: Electric Boogaloo.

RIP Gena Rowlands. If you haven’t seen it, watch A Woman Under the Influence. It’s a really good depiction of the ignorance around mental health in the 70s.
