So how did I pull a fast one again? You mean by receiving a broken system that was supposedly in excellent condition? Yeah that was quite tricky. And 68k never fixed the problem. He says he attempted a re-flow, and I just find it curious that I had the system fixed with a re-flow performed by somebody else. I also wouldn't say that the whole forum has his back, since there have been several people in this thread that either recommended a refund or partial refund. In the end, I got screwed out of an extra $100 for repairs & return shipping for a system that was supposed to be $175. Why would I recommend this seller?!

By lying about the situation.

Rob isn't gonna lose sleep over a few hundred bucks, plus if he was wrong, you would have had a refund.

There was nothing to indicate that the damage was done by him or during shipping.

I've sold TONS of stuff - its VERY hard to scratch and bust up a system like that in transit.

I've bought/sold stuff to/from Rob... fixed things for him... and he's been to my house for a repair party. He's always been 100% up front about everything and is ace in my books.

I've also had nothing but positive experiences with Rob.

Bought from Rob, sold to Rob, top notch dude!

He wouldn't put out though, so I can't give him a perfect 10.

pre-slim PS3's are going to brick, it's just a matter of time throw it in the fucking trash, and get a slim for the love of god

I have never had any reliability issues with my fat PS3. It is completely backwards compatible with PS1 and PS2, has a hell of a lot of USB ports and other ports I will never need, 60 gig is more than enough for me, and, IMO, it looks much more stylish than the slim. Taking reliability out of the equation, why would anyone prefer a slim?

Well, you can still buy a PS3 Slim in stores. The only way to get a BC PS3 is to get a used one, or pay for an unused CIB system if you can find one. With PS3 fats, there's no telling whether the system has been worked on to improve it's lifespan or not. Buying a used one is a huge crapshoot.

Well you can always tell if it has been opened by the security sticker and the tightness of certain screws.

I would recommend everyone changing their PS3's thermal paste with MX-2 or Arctic Silver 5.

I recently changed my thermal paste as the stock was dried up.

Oh yeah... I guess you can do that.

The only problem would be buying a PS3 online and the seller doesn't provide pictures of the security sticker. As for screws, the only way to know if they have that virgin snap they usually have in plastic screw posts (when the system is unopened), is to have the PS3 on hand... Not so useful when buying online.

At the insistence of several, I'm coming out to mention an incident that I had with MJ as well.

I purchased a 32x system from him and (foolishly) left him pos feedback on 05 September when the system arrived, safe and sound. I say foolishly, because at the time I had no way of testing the unit. It took about a month total (counting shipping) before I was able to source and receive the necessary cabling to hook it up. That was when I discovered that I had received a defective system. After testing 2 different 32x carts, and 11 different genesis carts, the best I ever got was the white Sega text to come on screen. I was reluctant to go public with the info due to the fact that 1) I'd already stated my satisfaction with a positive feedback rating, and 2) I had the system in my possession for so long before realizing that it was non-functional. Given that various people have let me know about other issues with this seller, and the fact that there was strong encouragement to do so from some other forum members, I'm bringing it up now.

It's starting to look like this MJ1984 guy runs a hustle.

I got a PM from another member a few days ago with the exact same story: Shipped item to MJ1984, MJ claims its in bad condition and not working, sends image of busted up system, wants money back.

The game is up.

I recently sold MJ1984 a C64. I had owned this computer for 10 years, never had a problem with it, even tested it before I shipped it off. He messaged me after receiving it, saying that the picture was bad, the system appeared broken, said it smelled like mildew and even said that it didn't look like the pictures I had posted. Now hes asking for a refund.... I see a trend here.

Definitely a trend. He's buying up good systems and trying to return trashed systems bough on the cheap.

Please post his name and address

Maybe he should be alerted to this thread to allow him to defend himself.

Someone had mentioned that they spotted him in this thread, but he obviously did not respond.

Perhaps he just doesn't care.
