Let me guess.

It was Trump.

Or Elon.

One of those two, for sure.

Same story, 2014.

2019 story criticizing the methods used in the 2014/2019 stories.

It looks like the same author (Russell Edwards) using the same evidence (mitochondrial DNA), but I might be missing something.

Well, it does look like there's a new edition of the book to sell:

Update: The "new evidence" is not new DNA evidence. It's "links" that Edwards has found between Kosminksi and the Freemasons, lol.

And THAT is the point.

Recycling old pop culture in order to make a buck off of the same thing that's existed forever.

It's not an incomprehensible motivation. People make actual careers out of this stuff. Lecuring, touring, podcasts, guest appearances on 'Ripperologist' shows, books, documentaries, etc. etc. etc. ad nauseum.

If that is their chosen craft, then I completely understand recycling/revitalizing it for a new audience. Or to get the old enthusiasts of the previous audience to stay invested.

I mean...that's why Gundam UC exists. Specifically to remind people of how awesome the Universal Century is by recycling all of its best ideas in a series that has stellar production values. But if you look at the gist of it, it's just a worse version of a story we already have but gussied up with great animation, art direction and killer music by Hiroyuki Sawano.

This is no different. I wish him luck.

But I'd prefer if he concluded that it was Trump or Musk. Or maybe Boris Johnson. Have a little fun with it!

Bullshit.

Take it from a hobby Ripperologist that has 40 years of experience under his JTR belt, it's nothing but money-making bs that you see almost every year. There is no DNA anymore, it's RNA which is a totally different beast. The old Eddowes shawl etc. nonsense. Fun stuff, just not helpful at all.

The case has never been solved and probably never will, at least not with the current breed of Ripperologists to whom ng.com looks like a nunnery.

Yeah.

There's serious research going on as well, the frequency of publications of these people is way lower, tho.

Any publication, site or content with "case closed" or "case solved" in combination with JTR can be safely discarded. If anything, it makes for a few good laughs over at jtrforums.com or casebook.org, a long-running forum I've been a member of since 1999. There was a server crash inbetween so the pre-2009 stuff got archived but it's still going strong.

Ah well.

I'd say that if the marketing is 'Case Closed' or 'Case Solved', it's an inherent marketing trick (evolutionary psychology) intended to get you to read/click/buy/invest in it or engage with it.

But I'm fairly certain Trump or Elon did it.

Lady killers.

Literally.

I'll have to check the website out. I didn't realize this was something that's "solved" every year. I guess it's like cancer then?

It's a business, plain and simple. Exploiting the Ripper case started right in 1888 and goes on until today. There are serious researchers who put together piece by piece of the case, driven by a general interest in history and specially the late period of Queen Victoria's reign but it's also a cash cow for authors with silly new theories and complete and utter idiots like Patricia Cornwell who thought her status as a successful crime novelist gives her the right to vandalize original pieces of art by Walter Sickert, an influental British painter who she thought was the ripper. There is still money to be made with that shit so it will go on forever.

Hey guys, I solved the case. Turns out it was a guy named Reginald Butterboy. He turned to homicidal rage after a lifetime of girls teasing his last name. You're welcome.
