Just curious - how many folks spend time 1cc'ing Neo or arcade games in general? Is that usually the end goal, or just for select games you really like?

Generally, I play a game until I'm done with it. If it leads to a 1cc, great, if not, also fine. Fighting games are usually the only arcade games I play enough, over a long enough period of time, to achieve a 1cc goal - with many of them being on level 8 Difficulty. KOF96-99, most FF games, all Darkstalkers games, etc. Some non-fighting game 1cc's: Spinmaster, Elevator Action Returns, Neo Drift Out.

Aside from that, I'm usually good when I achieve a 4cc - the NGH default (or $1 in an old arcade): Metal Slug 1 and X, Shinobi, Espgaluda, RayForce, other shmups.

I have way more console 1cc's than arcade 1cc's, though (single sitting, no saves or passwords). Pick your classic Mega Man or X series game, Castlevania 1 and 3, Rondo of Blood, plenty of others.

I don't care if I do or do not. I don't even really pay attention to it. Unless it's a game that requires 1cc.

I've gotten up from my alarm in the morning without even using the snooze button. At least once before.
Impressive, once I put my alarm under the bed but like right in the middle so I had to crawl under to turn it off.

Still didn't work.

I've done a few 1cc's. Only Neo game I've 1cc'd is Metal Slug.

If I had more time I'd do a lot more 1cc's. I really like how it lets you get to know the game at a whole other level.

I've only 1cc'd neo Drift out. Most others I will get credits pretty low with subsequent playgrounds, but normally I just credit feed

You should try to 1cc Shock Troopers. It's relatively easy, if you pick the right team of characters, and the right route.

1CC on default difficulty or higher is always what I play for. It’s what keeps me coming back to arcade games in general.

I always try to 1cc a game with varying degrees of seriousness, even if I don't plan to, the possibility is always there, it has become part of my fabric.

The motivation of becoming good at a game in the arcade days was to make the most of your money, 1cc'ing was a consequence of that which eventually became an option once you had really honed your skill like I did with Wonderboy, Robotron and few others. From then on, it was all about who stayed at the hiscore spot the longest.

The mindset is still there, specially when I really like a game and if there's a score at all, quite a few modern arcade-style games don't even have it anymore.

Agreed about scoring - I've come to really enjoy this aspect of arcade games so long as there are some sort of mechanics tied to it. Even if you don't 1cc a game, understanding the scoring mechanics can give you little goals early on. I've never 1cc'd MSX, but give myself score challenges to make the early stages still be engaging while I just try to survive the rest of the game.

I’d love to, but I only have so much time for all of my hobbies, and I’d like to play as many games as possible when I game. Also- skill issue. I’m just not very good at video games and I’m tired of only seeing the same few stages.

I used to feel bad about it credit feeding but not anymore. They are games, you can play them anyway you want

I also think that people should enjoy their games in a way which gives them maximum fun time joy confetti and all that, that's why I often try to 1cc a game because that is what I like. You play a game in a different way if you try to 1cc it, every bit of extra score becomes important, every aspect of the game is taken into consideration in order to advance, losing a life is bad, losing all your lifes is a disaster if you're on your last coin, game over will really mean game over for today and most probably tomorrow... these are some of the thoughts, partly from the old days, or modern versions of them, which I have in my mind when playing, not in an actual litteral form but in spirit, if you catch my drift. It's what keeps me going, digging deep down into the damn game in order to crack it one day. The complete experience.

Depends on the game - I usually go for the 1-all over a huge score. Generally if I don’t vibe with a game it makes it harder to want to clear it. Clearing Pulstar wasn’t too bad because I really ended up enjoying it. Clearing Tatsujin Oh felt like a chore- I haven’t really felt the need to put in practice for a clear since then.

Going to depend on my mood, to be honest - whether I just want to sit down and just have a bit of fun and kill time, or whether I want to go all in and beat the game. Nowadays, I just don't have the time I used to really sit and master a game for 1cc, but I do try now and again.

The little "tourneys" we have here for shmup high score of the month have been a lot of fun and inspired me to get better at certain games, for sure.

I definitely agree with everything you said here- the feeling of progress and mastering with 1cc is more rewarding than playing any other way. I'm not against playing that way myself, I just always run into that wall of never being able to progress further

It's been more than once I've met someone from the retro or arcade scene who has a full kof/sf2 collection and then gets dismantled because they barely know how to block or just decide when the round starts they're going to tard out have a seizure on the controls and try and break them as much as possible sheesh. It's how I imagine lonesage plays sf2

I don't wanna sound hardcore or anything, I'm a gamer with average skills at best and 8 times out of 10 just have a bit of casual gaming fun for an hour or two and that's it. However, in 2 of those 10 cases, things can get very intense, up to the point where I'm playing nothing but a single game for months on end, read faqs, watch related vids, put down notes how to clear certain spots and generally goob out until the cows come home.

That's not to say those months-long efforts would always be crowned by a 1cc, there are games that I've been playing for more than 40 years but could never beat, no matter how much I tried, but that doesn't really matter in the end coz I have big fun trying it, and that's what it's all about for me.
