It's an arcade game you put a coin in for a credit and then finish it on that credit.
It's a 1CC you moron

It's been more than once I've met someone from the retro or arcade scene who has a full kof/sf2 collection and then gets dismantled because they barely know how to block or just decide when the round starts they're going to tard out have a seizure on the controls and try and break them as much as possible sheesh. It's how I imagine lonesage plays sf2
This sadly describes over half of my instagram following...people with a huge library of fighting games, many of which I've played with over the years, and turns out they "just play it for the story." FFS, it's not Playboy. 🤦‍♂️

Nice guys for sure, and they mean well... just the goobiest of goobs.

I can easily 1CC Fatal Fury 1 (probably the easiest game to do so on the NG IMO), and have 1CC'd the later KOFs plenty of times after a good amount of practice (though that was decades ago).

I don't put a lot of effort into it though, especially these days. I'll just credit feed all day long until I've had a satisfying playthrough.

You should be able to 1CC at least a few Neo Geo or other arcade games with a bit of effort. When I was a kid I'd visit arcades most weekends and perfected stuff like Outrun and Double Dragon. We didn't have access to unlimited games (or adult income and responsibilities) like we do now so when I saved up and bought a console or computer game back in the day I'd usually 1CC it before moving on.

I remember 1CCing 1943, Psycho Soldier and Double Dragon shortly after they came out. Doing it on Ninja Warriors was an accomplishment and while Gauntlet did not have an ending, I could stay on indefinitely on one credit. Of course many of the games I grew up with playing in arcades didn't have endings like Asteroids, Defender or Sinistar ;)

You're a regular Billy Mitchel, only without the cheating and douchebaggery.

1CCing any of those games is pretty impressive, especially back then.

I don't actively try but sometimes it happens. I do however try to one life/no death runs of classic console games like Mega Man, Trojan, Double Dragon etc.

I play the game how I want to play it. It's fun.
When you try to 1cc, you use specific methods to defeat the AI which usually involve the same pattern over and over. It's not fun.

I used to own all these expensive Cave and other shooting game Pcbs. They were great to play but I couldn't 1cc any of them. I felt like a fraud in the scene so one day I just sold them all off! Such a liberating feeling to be free of all the frustrating fucking shite.

At one time I held 4 world records at Twin Galaxies, probably more than Billy boy. Now I'm done to one: Ninja Warriors.

HIDDEN NOTE: If someone claims to 1CC Final Fight, look at the last two digits of their score. Any time you use a credit to continue, the last digit of the score will turn into a 1. Basically the last two digits shows how many continuous games you did. Many of the classic Capcom scrollers do this.

No, I don't play games with the intent of getting a 1cc.
If it happens, great. But these days it's all about taking the time to enjoy the game and not stressing out about achieving a perfect playthrough.

It depends on the game. But if I really get into it, I'll usually try to 1CC it. So far I've 1CC'd the following Neo Geo games:
  • Andro Dunos
  • Art of Fighting 3
  • Cyber Lip
  • Ganryu
  • Last Resort
  • Magician Lord
  • Metal Slug (1 life clear)
  • Neo Drift Out
  • Over Top
  • Sonic Wing 3
I generally don't bother trying to 1CC the Fighting games — too damn annoying in most cases. 😅

AoF3 is super easy to 1CC tho. 😁

If anyone is looking for a 1cc, Metal Slug is not bad at all. It mostly boils down to surviving the double bridge on the last stage.

Spot on.
It's the only Slug I've ever cc'ed.

On that note, another easy CC candidate is CyberLip. Pretty easy boss patterns once you've played it a few times.

I have a hard time believing this, since Ganryu is so damn bad.

Nobody puts a coin on that stinker!

I can 0cc it everyday.

Shock Troopers is also not too bad to 1cc on arcade difficulty (if you pick the right course, and the right characters).
Metal Slug 2 is way harder to 1cc than the first Slug, solely because of the difficulty of the last level.

The only games I have 1CCed you probably guessed it, was Galaxy Fight and Waku Waku 7 only to get that highscore for an online leaderboard (maybe some other fighting games like Garou, AOF3 cant remember). In general I am not a fan of 1CCs for two reasons.
Alot of people are stuck with their arcade games where you can credit feed trough the entire game without any skill, or they go to the other extreme of clearing the game with only 1 credit. The AES is just a great middle ground where you can actually claim you beat an acrcade game with its dedicated AES mode with things like limited credits and feel acolplished without going to the other extreme of dedicating yourself with a 1CC.
Almost all AES modes are beatble with a memory card on 1 player only. Even in Crossed Swords I am came really close with half a bar on the very last boss remaing (should have turned controller 2 on tbh lol).
I have beaten Top Hunter, all the Beat Em Ups, Aero Fighters 3 this way on P1 on my AES. Fighting games, puzzle games are pretty balanced anyways with a memory card. And lets not forget about Pulstar, Last Resort or Magician Lord who force you at 1CC level of gameplay anyways. Thats one the best things when playing on the AES for me, its more than a glorified super gun like some people say. I still have not installed a Unibios and I am tottally fine with just AES mode.

And the other reason: it would also be pretty boring ending up with all this stuff that you spend so much money for but you can beat everything in 1 credit, looking from a collectors perspective. Alot of skill of those who do arent even coming from their normal game setup but alot of performances are studied with save states playing roms on PC, alot of 1CC people have admited that.

The only way to finish a game is on a single credit. I don't see the point in playing any other way. You can add credits to see what's next or to practice a certain section, but as soon as you do that the motivation to care about what's happening dies off.

What baffles me is people who love video games saying they "finished" a game when all they did was add credits until the end.

I've beaten many neo fighters with an individual character, on one credit. KOFs, motw, lb2, etc. it wasn't something I was striving for - I was just interested in trying to play the games as well as I could.

I've never 1cced a shmup though.

I think there's a reason why I haven't failed to find Final Fight in all japanese Game Centers I went to that had 6+ classic cabs, despite CAPCOM themselves having other beat-em-ups that build on it, perpetual whining about difficulty or comparisons to console stuff like SOR. The game gets so close to crossing that challenging vs. unfair line it's insane, and its mechanical simplicity helps to unblur those lines if you sit down to play it a few times. People are still coining in. You always come back for more.

That's how skill challenge type arcade games brought in the money and that's the way they're meant to be played. Even vs fighting still retained that design instead of just throwing you on a grid background training stage for 1 player only play.

Of course I'm not advocating for grown man to scream at each other for coin feeding or using save states because who gives a shit. I'm just saying going for a 1cc is rewarding as hell even if you never get to the end in one coin because the good coin-op games are built for that.

Spoiler:
and besides, the real hardcore OGs play these games for score, like the jumpsuit salaryman I saw at Taito Hey who cleared R-Type while farming points off bosses without breaking a sweat, a true gigachad. For these people "only" 1cc'ing the games they like borders on trivial
