Any reason why your game has been pulled from the Switch online store?

Yes. Lack of flexibility with the Nintendo store; we just couldn't delay the release date to match the delivery of the physical copies (a dozen of which we haven't been able to ship yet because of a problem with the last MVS delivery, we're expecting the carts next week). We didn't want to upset the guys who supported us with an expensive physical purchase by letting the cheap download be available before... So we decided not to communicate about the availability on Switch and to pull it completely from sale as soon as we could.
Sorry about the hiccup!

Got my NGCD copy yesterday (thank you, Johnny16Bit) and played it for quite a while, and then some. Very good game, great controls, there's way more to it strategy- and scoring-wise than it seems at first, has elements of Taito gems like Bubble Bobble, Parasol Stars or Jaleco's Rodland which I love and played to hell and back.

Love the graphics style, colours could be a lil' less pastell-y but that's just a minor thing. Great attract mode with the captain slowly drifting from left to right, and really good music, too. Love the sound fx, recording all those shouts and aarghs and uurghs must have been mad fun.

Good stuff.

A quick note to the unlucky few who were still waiting for their Neo Geo cart pre-order to ship: everything went to the post this morning :sweaty:
You must have received your notification and tracking info.
Many thanks again for your patience, I hope they all arrive in time to sit under the tree.

I'll be posting an update regarding availability and digital versions soon.

So, we're closing.

From our website:

Dear Customer, Dear Friend,

We are announcing the upcoming closure of our store and website www.neobyteforce.com, as well as the cessation of all our commercial activities.
All current orders have been fulfilled, and we remain at your service to ensure their follow-up if necessary.

Our long-time partner, Antonio from Japangameonline, will continue selling our physical games via a new website that will be hosted at this address: www.jgostudios.com. Meanwhile, Neo Byte Force will now solely focus on development as an independent studio.

We would like to thank you once again for your support, loyalty, and enthusiasm. It was a great experience to get to know you, to serve you, and to make plenty of new friends among you ; it is therefore with regret that we are stepping aside, but this is a necessary evolution that, we hope, will allow us to continue offering you new retro productions for your favorite consoles.

Our Discord channel https://discord.gg/Yz9marjNbP and our X account https://x.com/neobyteforce will, of course, remain open to stay in touch with you, and you can also reach us by email at neobyteforce@gmail.com . Finally, we created a blog at https://neobyteforce.blogspot.com/ to keep traces of our website, and share new content with you.

As we had announced, digital versions of our games are available to download from itch.io:
https://ozzyouzo.itch.io/cyborg-force
https://ozzyouzo.itch.io/captain-barrel

Kind regards,

OzzyOuzo & Johnny16bit

... Special thanks to you sick weidos for being a cool and supportive bunch, and keeping this place so unique. And so full of farts.

Cheers

We're running a scoring competition during the month of January :)

The scoreboard will be hosted on the neogeo-system forum, but if enough of you guys join in I'll open a topic here as well
In the meantime you can post up your scores here

Rules are easy: default setting (=MVS/LVL4 ; 3 lives at start), any version (Neo/neoCD/DC/MD), 1 credit

I played the game recently and I do plan to pick up a CD version if/when they become available. One interesting omission was the lack of co-op gameplay that this game genre normally has. Was it some kind of technical limitation? Planned that way from the start? Just curious as to why it's players taking turns instead of co-op play.

A DC version with 4 Caps would have been pretty fun.

Hey there thanks
2P coop is always a challenge, not just because of strictly technical issues, but because it generates bugs exponentially. In the case of this game, it also affects the entire logic of the game (generally: do players really cooperate, or do they compete for score? And from there, you have to resolve all deriving questions (can you drop a barrel on an enemy that was knocked down by the other player, do barrels collide or not, do you share bonuses, how do you count treasure chests / treasure maps etc).
We felt 2P coop had only drawbacks, as it would either affect negatively the way 1P play was designed, or require a parallel logic specific to 2P play (which isn't a good thing either) AND require a lot of extra work for a questionable result. So we stuck to the competitive logic of alternate play, which was also much more manageable.

Re: availability, I just checked and the NeoCD version (as well as the DC & Genny) is available in the US from gameovervideogames :)
Stone Age Gamer has the Genesis version, but not the disc versions yet.

We did consider 4P play at one point, but it didn't go too far
