Why Sony, why?

You can beat Ninja Gaiden Black.

But can't edit an .ini or change settings in a PC game.

wut
Those are two different things.

One is hand-eye coordination and reflexes. They're reactive skills.

The other one requires me to research, test, restart, etc.

Fuck that.

I like playing games. Not configuring my system so that I can play games.

People saying $700 is crazy for something they'd build for the same performance for $1200+

Even said they'd spend that 700 on a single component which they'll couple with 3-500 of motherboard case ram CPU lol fuck off

Go build a comparable pc for $700
I'll wait

Faggit A: “im not gonna tweak settings on a Pc. GPU costs blah blah blah” Meanwhile component mods their consoles, buys $50 component cables, a $150 OSSC, and spends hours troubleshooting and tweaking settings.
Faggit B: “lol consoles are just gimped PC rigs with no freedom, they own your games not you” meanwhile uses their $2500 gaming pc to shitpost on Ng.com, watch youtube, and look at feet porn.
Faggit C: “games are gay, PC lol peasants, I hate physical media but collect Morrisey vinyl.” Meanwhile shops for fancy watches and frilly shirts like thats not just another form of the same autism that afflicts all of us here. 🙃

I buy a console.

I have a HDMI cable.

I connect the console to the TV. No external speakers. No surround sound. No 5K price tag. A $400 TV I bought at a big box store. Sometimes the TV comes with apps. I rarely use them.

I plug the TV and the console in to the surge bar.

I insert the disc or load the game up from the library.

I play the game.

Buying watches as status symbols is gay. Dion tier.

I believe you as far as new consoles. That being said, i have never spent more than 5 minutes getting a game in Steam to play, and that was on a pc way too old and janky to run most things. With my 2022 pc i have never done anything other than click purchase and then click play.
But, if you are talking about why we are all here initially, the neogeo and other archaic dumbass old consoles, and arcade games, no way Jose. Endless tinkering, breakdowns, things working *almost* properly, etc.

PC versus Console is a similar argument to Android versus iPhone.

PC/Android = more open ended environment for tinkering and customizing to make sure you have the exact experience you want (more or less) the more time you put into them.

Console/iPhone = closed environment and the presents the experience the developer wants you to have with much less room for customization. Easy, out of the box approach that just work (most of the time).

Both are fine choices - just depends on the temperament of the end user and what they're looking for.

I'm a modder, a power user, elite gamer, tweaker...

That's why personally I prefer to have a 5GB shim of operating system and janky drivers between my game and hardware.

Just imagine buying an Xbox in this generation

Why would I spend $700 on an inferior PC when I could spend it on a superior shirt?

I think the $700 price tag for the PS5 pro is disappointing because we’ve been used to pro or mid life upgrades launching at the price the original console cost with a reduction in price of the base console as its manufacturing was streamlined and costs reduced. That doesn’t appear to be happening here.

They just need to announce a Bloodborne remake and my dumbass will buy it.

I’m not sure why reply to you in good faith. I await your next faggot reply of “lol.”

The reason I prefer consoles is because I put the game in and it plays. No need to tweak settings, meet hardware requirements, etc.

If I had a PC that could play any game any time whenever I want without me having to upgrade or downgrade settings, I'd probably be a pure PC gamer.

This is the main reason I'm happy with my PS5. It has, performance wise, exceeded my expectations. Love that machine.

But it's really just a PS4 Ultramarine Pro. A Primaris Station 4, if you will.

Space Marine 2 has been pretty fun. You playing it?

Yeah, I posted that I was playing it in Weekly Update and it's dragged me down the 40K lore rabbit hole pretty fiercely.

Um buy a better mobo? Also, lol at your GPU breaking after three years... Are you anti PC people so out of touch that you believe this shit?
No, I always buy mid tier gaming PC's for my main PC, and unfortunately this is what my experience has been. The GPU is usually the first thing to go. I hope you're right, because the PC is otherwise a great platform for gaming, as other have pointed out.

And what do you mean "buy a better mobo"? My point is once you need a new CPU or GPU you need to buy a new mobo. You're most likely going to want a whole new system. The idea of upgrading the existing system is somewhat of a myth in my opinion.

Been busy this week and missed much of this conversation.

On topic - I don't think that $700 is unreasonable for a "premium" console experience - especially for the convenience of having a more powerful platform that "just works" over a PC which requires a different temperament to get the most out of. There will be plenty of people willing to shell out for it. I'm not the target market for this device, but I'm sure it will still sell a decent amount.

What I do think is a huge misstep by Sony is not including a disc drive. I don't know the numbers for how many folks own a disc-based PS5 versus digital, but for anyone with a physical PS5 game library, Sony has alienated them by forcing them to re-purchase a game they already own physically to reap the benefits or spend an additional $100 for a disc drive.

Then again, I'm not a corporation who spends millions in marketing dollars on focus group testing to make these sorts of decisions so... 🤷‍♂️
The whole thing is a misstep. No one asked for it. But now that it's out, I don't really get people trying to cancel it. Journalists who made the mistake of saying anything positive about the specs or image quality found out the hard way that this topic is already toxic.

Honestly I don't get why people complain. Don't buy it at launch, it will drop in price pretty quickly.
PS3 was also 699 on release (at least in europe).

Has the PS5 dropped in price?

The discless system cost $400 four years ago.

You're most likely going to want a whole new system. The idea of upgrading the existing system is somewhat of a myth in my opinion.

It really depends on what you need to upgrade. I'll use my gaming PC as an example.

I initially built mine from a case/mobo/CPU combo I bought from Newegg in early 2020. 9th gen Intel i5 CPU. Picked up an 8GB stick of RAM and a GeForce 1060 GPU for cheap from Facebook market (this was just before the COVID crypto boom blew up GPU prices). All in, I spent a little less than $700, albeit I did use used parts.

I upgraded the RAM from 8GB to 64GB and added two more hard drives later that year. Fall of 2021 I upgraded the GPU to a GeForce 3060 Ti. If I really needed a beefier processor (I don't) I could upgrade to a 9th gen i7 without replacing the motherboard or anything else. But you're right, if I needed an upgrade to a newer chipset, yeah, gotta get a new motherboard. That doesn't necessarily mean you can't keep using some components you already have though.

So almost 5 years since the initial build and 3 years since the last upgrade and I'm still running most new big studio games on high settings in 4k. At this point I don't see myself totally replacing this gaming PC until I need a beefier GPU (maybe in 2-3 years), and I'd really only be replacing the whole system because I'm too lazy to deal with wiring up a bigger power supply in the system I already have.

You're not totally wrong though, companies like Dell and HP build their gaming PCs in a way that discourages upgrading components, like not using off the shelf power supplies (they do this for reasons that should be obvious). It's better to build your own, and it's not nearly as difficult to do as it used to be. And as far as your experience with GPUs that only last a few years? That shouldn't be happening with normal use. If you're cranking it to the max 24/7 like you're mining crypto or something yeah it's gonna burn out in a few years (or less). Maybe look into a bigger case and more fans to keep air flowing. They shouldn't be crapping out that fast. Hell, the GPU in my main laptop is turning 10 next year and never had an issue.

EDIT:

That's any gamer over 30.

Don't mind him, he still lives with his parents.
