Not only did Curt post this in General, but he's the owner of urban-muse who compiled it.

So I'm kinda irritated, but it made Spoon happy, so I'll grin and bear it.

You know...I know I'm going to get bashed for this but I seriously DO NOT like his artwork. The way he draws faces drives me nuts for some reason. I don't know exactly what it is...everyone looks like a kid or something, I've never been able to put my finger on it but it bothers me. The rest of his artwork is serious quality but those damn faces.........

Oh please don't, I'm embarrassed about this now.

But Shinkiro really was the soul of SNK, though.
More than just a mere illustrator, he was a true artist.
Many of those photo realistic renderings felt like windows to a world that the game designers envisioned.

Without him, SNK turned into a haven for nonces and weeaboos.

That closeup of Haomaru he did for SS2 is my favorite, btw. If I could get that on a poster I would so buy it.

That side-boob. <3

EDIT: JUST REALIZED

Benimaru Nikaido = gay Paul Phoenix (Tekken)
or Paul Phoenix = straight interpretation of Benimaru?

Look up Polnareff from Jojo's Bizarre Adventure. Likely the inspiration for Guile as well; Benimaru's name during KOF 94 development was Polnareff, iirc.

Not only do I love Shinkiro...

...and this picture...

but I also love the "Bubble Economy" era Japan that produced the fashion of clothes they're wearing, the bar they're in, and the music they're presumably listening to.

The fashions are long gone: no one would be caught dead in those kinds of clothes these days, but every now and then you can find a bar or restaurant that's a hold over from the Bubble days. I love finding these places.

[edit: Goro Daimon looks uncomfortably similar to Dion Dakis]

If it's any comfort, I still dress like a complete 90's faggot most of the time.

Yeah, pretty sure I dated a girl who looked like Chizuru in that.

Seeing SNK characters in their down-time is real cool, something I think we all appreciate.

that's what makes me feel all nice about this artwork. you get a little window into what these people do when they're not beating the fuck out of each other. you get a little window into their lives and see what they do get up to. even if they are just characters in a game, but even so, he brought them to life and that's what i love about this.

I really like this picture. It really gives personality to each of the featured fighters.

Kyo is the suave cool kid, soaking up all the spotlight.

King showing her rarely seen feminine side.

Ralf and Heavy D coming out of the closet, while Heindern looks on in confusion.

Iori is being a typical anti-social wino.

Terry, being the bad-ass that he is, showing up in his jeans, chucks and a half-assed “formal” blazer. He reminds me of the stereotypical cool, young college professor .

Great stuff.

I was indifferent early on but his stuff just grew on me and I love it now.

I really love his middle period only because it was still more natural mediums. I like using digital myself but something about real watercolor/gauche/inks is just awesome.

Thanks for posting this up guys!

Luke Plunkett at Kotaku reposted it up a couple days ago, then Marvel Vs. Capcom did.

Theres a few subtitles I need to ad (I've gotten a few emails) but overall I think it's pretty good.

I hope even Shinkiro will like it if he sees it.
