Fun fact, Kaisen means “Improvement” in Japanese. And this game is definitely an improvement over vanilla 1943.

Lucky for everyone that I have no access to 1943 Kai. Last time I played it a couple of years back when it was in my arcade as part of a 60-in-1 board, I easily scored in the 2 million range on my first ever attempt playing it. After all, I was the former world record holder on 1943 which to me was a tougher game to play.

I’m not sure about making the player go back and do the boss battle if you don’t have a certain %.

On some of the levels, if you have enough vitality to do it, intentionally not making the % and redoing the boss stage is key to higher scores.

PROTIP: shooting the explosions from the boss ship at the end scores extra points. Shooting the turrets in a special order allows a Hyperdyne Sidearms character to pop out from the explosion and run off the screen. Shooting it is worth 100k points!
