You just made the hot tag. Can’t believe we are the only two to rate Malenko. 🤷
I never get tired of watching his work.
The Malenko vs Jericho feud back in WCW was one of the first things I remember liking in wrestling. I couldn't care less about the main event scene, but Malenko was so damn good.

RE: WWE

The product has been very stale lately. The storylines are all very slow or inconsequential.

Watching Carmelo Hayes and Andrade wrestle every week in 'their series' was boring after the second one.

The Bloodline story has gotten very dull. Solo has lost all credibility as a dangerous contender.

LA Knight won the US Championship and has somehow become less interesting as a result (and I love him for being a throwback character).

Bianca Bel Air is Charlotte Flair V2-never sells, never loses, never changes. Bianca and Jade suck as the tag team champs and it's time to turn one of them heel. They have great women tag teams that have actual gimmicks like Unholy Union and Damage Control but instead they put the belts on two singles stars-is Vince somehow booking again?

Tiffany Stratton won MitB and is just doing...nothing with it. Nya as the champ hasn't elevated her or the division at all.

The Wyatt Sicks showed up and jobbed out a very promising trio in American Made. Now neither one of those groups is doing anything. Ivy Nile is being wasted on this.

The LWO and Lagado Del Phantasma may as well not exist.

The Judgment Day and the 'Terror Twins' (fucking gay name) is just the same shit week in, week out.

Pure Fusion Collective landed like a wet fart and stinks like one too.

Jey Uso winning the IC strap was nice but I'm not buying him as a singles champ.

Cody is boring now that he's not chasing.

The only good things in WWE right now, in my opinion, are Gunther as champ (although it's in danger of being a rertun of his magnificent IC run), Punk/Drew and whenever Chelsea Green is chewing scenery. I literally tune out after seeing those segments.

Final Testament and New Day...LOL.

If WWE really wants to shock me, bring back Paul Heyman and have him unleash Brock Lesnar on the Bloodline. Cody and Roman are an unlikely pairing. How much more unlikely and cool would it be to see Paul get his revenge?

But here's how it's going to really go down:

Rock beats Cody to take the belt at some point between now and WM.

Build to Roman v. Rock at Wrestlemania.

Cody will be teased as potentially winning the RR a third straight time and will come up short.

WWE Bad Blood PLE Results: 10-5-24

Results courtesy of PWTorch.com (complete link to Keller's real-time report).

(1) DREW MCINTYRE vs. C.M. PUNK

Cole noted that 27 years ago Hell in a Cell debuted in St. Louis, Mo. He said it was Shawn Michaels vs. Undertaker when Kane debuted in WWE. He said since that night, HIAC has made history. They went to Cole and Graves at ringside. Graves said they try not to use “hate” to describe the tension between rivals, but that applies to Drew and Punk. Goldberg and Killer Mike were shown in the front row. Cole said Punk is 2-2 in HIAC matches, but it’s his first in nearly 11 years. He said in 2012 he beat Ryback in the Cell.

The bell rang 16 minutes into the hour. A loud “C.M. Punk!” chant broke out. Punk had words for Drew as he approached him center-ring. Drew had some words back. Drew threw the first punch. Punk fired back. Drew lifted Punk and threw him into the corner. Punk fought back.

Drew beat up Punk at ringside. Punk fought back but Drew took over again shortly thereafter. He threw Punk into the ringside steps and then pressed his boot on his neck. Cole said, “This will not be a five-star wrestling classic.” Drew swung a wrench at Punk. Punk ducked and then shoved the wrench into Drew.

Back in the ring, Drew yanked legs off a table and swung at Punk. Punk blocked it and jabbed it against Drew’s head. Punk slammed Drew onto the underside of the table. Another “C.M. Punk!” chant rang out. They fought to ringside at 8:00 where Drew landed a Claymore. Another chant for Punk rang out. Drew launched Punk into the face head-first. Punk came up bleeding. Drew rammed the ringside steps into Punk’s head, then rammed his head into the base of the steps. Drew stomped on his head next. “Hatred, disdain, disgust,” said Cole. Drew told Punk he was going to end his career. Cole said if you throw out the Royal Rumble, this is Punk’s third week of 2024 whereas Drew wrestles almost every week. He said now Punk is locked in a cage with a psychopath like Drew who is in the best shape of his life.

Punk went for a bulldog, but Drew blocked it. Punk climbed to the top rope and leaped down with a forearm to Drew’s head. Drew leaped off the top rope with a wrench, but Drew blocked it and then overhead suplexed Punk onto the table. Fans chanted, “This is awesome!” Drew kipped up and threw his hair back, then signaled for a Claymore. Punk rolled to ringside before Drew could hit the Claymore. Punk caught Drew as he leaned through the ropes with a tool box. Drew was pouring blood from the forehead. Punk hit Drew again with the tool box. Punk leaped off the top rope and hit him again at 16:00. Both Punk and Drew were covered in blood. Drew’s blood was more severe than probably desired by everyone involved. Punk landed four running knees into Drew followed by a bulldog.

Punk landed a GTS. Drew rolled to the floor and was out on his back. Drew reentered the ring and surprised Punk with a Claymore. Drew crawled over and scored a two count at 18:00. Another chant for Punk rang out. Drew picked up a wrench, but tossed it down and went for a Claymore instead. Punk side-stepped it and set up a sharpshooter. He struggled but finally applied it. Drew’s face and hair were drenched in blood. Drew picked up the wrench and hit Punk in the back with it twice. Punk released his grip. Drew shoved the wrench against Punk’s face. Both were down and slow to get up.

They stood and exchanged punches. Drew set up a Future Shock. Punk slipped out and went for a GTS. Drew blocked it. They kept chopping each other and both went down again. Drew suplexed Punk off the ring apron and threw a table below. “Holy shit!” rang out as both men were down and slow to get up. Another “This is awesome!” chant broke out. “They’re superstars, but at the end of the day, they’re damn human being, Cole!” exclaimed Graves.

Drew tried to lift the base of the ring steps into the ring, but his back gave out. He slid it under the bottom rope instead. Drew threw Punk back into the ring. Punk surprised Drew with a GTS for a near fall at 25:00. Cole said both men are flirting with career-ending injuries. Drew gave Punk a White Noise on the base of the steps in the ring and scored a near fall. “Punk is alive! Punk is alive!” Graves said it’s getting uncomfortable in the arena, as if the are witnessing something they shouldn’t be seeing. Drew went for a move, but Punk countered into an Anaconda Vice. Drew bragged a wrench. Punk pulled it away from him and bashed Drew in the head with it over and over.

Punk stood over Drew who begged off. Punk asked if he’s afraid of him. Drew said, “Look at me.” Punk wound up to use the wrench, but Drew gave him a low-blow to block it. Cole said Punk did that to Drew to cost him the World Title. Punk was down as Drew pulled out a black bag. “What on Earth?” asked Cole. “One can only imagine.” Drew then poured beads from a bracelet over him. Cole said that was the ultimate “FU” from Drew. Drew then charged for a Claymore, but Punk moved and Drew landed back-first on the edge of the base of the steps. Punk then wrapped a chain around his knee. It was quite a process. Punk gathered beads, shoved them in Drew’s mouth, and then gave him a GTS with the chain-wrapped knee for the win.

As Punk’s music played, he left the ring and slammed the door as he walked to the back. He collapsed in the aisle. The medical team ran out with Adam Pearce to check on him. Punk stood and pushed his way past them, but then collapsed again. The medics checked his pulse. They cut to Drew soaking up the loss. A medic put an oxygen mask on Punk who had a glassy stare. Punk yanked off the oxygen mask and said he wanted to talk to his wife. He stood and walked to the back. The medics then made their way to tend to Drew instead.

WINNER: Punk in 30:00.

(A great Hell in a Cell. The tone of the match, start to finish, matched the build to the match. It didn’t overstay its welcome and belabor the point, either, despite going 30 minutes. The body language and pacing and overall intensity and brutality fit together so well to tell a great story. The use of beads and then the chain-wrapped GTS felt like a perfect pair of symbolism followed by a believable elevation of an offensive move to end the match. The blood was what fans have wanted for so long during stretches where grudge matches didn’t have blood.)

WWE Bad Blood PLE Results: 10-5-24

(2) NIA JAX vs. BAYLEY – WWE Women’s Title match

Bayley made her entrance first. Then Jax. The bell rang 5 minutes into the hour. Cole asked Graves why Jax is better than ever at this point in her career. Graves said the time away from WWE “truly transformed Nia Jax on a human level.” He said she realized she had to work harder and success wouldn’t come easily. Jax went on the attack early. Jax was very casual with her whipping of Bayley into the ropes early in this match, and it just looked terrible because Bayley had to create all of this momentum running into and rebounding off the ropes without any sense that Jax used her power to force her. Jax worked over Bayley with a single leg Boston Crab followed by a modified Camel Clutch.

Bayley escaped and sent Jax through the ropes. She went on the attack. Bayley dove through the ropes and tried to tackle Jax, although she partially bounced off of her. Bayley threw Jax into the ring. Jax stood and headbutted Bayley. Bayley set up a powerbomb off the top rope. Jax shifted and head scissored Bayley to the mat and then landed a belly-to-belly for a near fall.

Jax dropped Bayley on the top turnbuckle next. Bayley avoided a charging Jax. She landed a running knee next. Fans chanted, “We Want Tiffy!” Bayley landed a running sunset bomb on Jax, sending her into the corner. Bayley came up limping. Cole expressed concern for her knee. Bayley climbed to the top rope and landed a leaping elbow drop for a two count.

Jax took over at ringside and powerbombed her onto the steel steps and then swung her into the ringside barricade. Back in the ring, Jax slapped Bayley at 10:00. Jax executed a Samoan Drop, but Cole called it like it was Bayley countering Jax and slammed her down. He corrected himself and they commented on a replay of how it looked like they each had something in mind. Bayley then landed her own Samoan Drop. “Are you kidding me?” asked Cole. Jax kicked out and tossed Bayley onto the ref in the process. Bayley kicked Jax, who collapsed onto the ref. Fans went “oooohhh!” Graves said it was incidental, not malicious. Bayley landed a Pop-up Stunner and a Roseplant, but the ref was still out. The fans counted to seven.

Tiffany’s music played and she ran out with the briefcase. She bashed Bayley with the case and then stood over all three fallen bodies including the ref. Tiffany jostled the ref who had the briefcase in her hand. Jax woke up and saw the scene. Jax thought she was about to cash in. Tiffany explained herself. Bayley then shoved Jax into Tiffany and rolled her up for a believable near fall. Bayley climbed to the top rope. Tiffany threw the case at her. Bayley caught it and threw it back toward her. Jax then lifted Bayley on the top rope and delivered a Samoan Drop. She then dragged her to the corner and landed her sitsplash finisher for the win.

WINNER: Jax in 15:00 to retain the WWE Women’s Title.

(That was brutal in both senses of the word. It was violent and you were on the edge of your seat in good and bad ways in terms of the brute force of some of the moves. The match was also brutal in that some sequences and moves were just off to the point that Cole wasn’t sure multiple times who was supposed to be selling the move and he got it wrong at least twice. Overall, if you can get past some of the clunky exchanges, it told a good story that played into Jax’s dominant offense and Bayley’s resilience. The Tiffany run-in to help Jax with Jax thinking she had already cashed in will continue the tension between them, and Jax’s overreaction will feed into Tiffany further considering breaking away. )

(3) FINN BALOR vs. DAMIEN PRIEST

Balor came out first. They showed Quavo at ringside during Priest’s entrance. they showed Lil’ Baby and then Metro Boomin at ringside. There was a woman next to Boomin who looked like she was completely disinterested in being there. Graves asked Cole if he invited his playlist to Bad Blood. He said he’s never known him to be so excited at ringside.

The bell rang 33 minutes into the second hour. Balor controlled the match for the first long stretch. Priest made a comeback and scored some two count. Balor came back with a sling blade at 7:00. Priest landed two leaping roundkicks and then a running clothesline for a two count. Priest landed a Razor’s Edge a minute later for a two count. Priest knocked Balor into the announce desk and Balor bumped over the top to the floor. Priest gave Balor a Razor’s Edge onto the ring apron.

Back in the ring, Priest lowered his straps. Balor begged off. Fans booed as Carlito and J.D. McDonagh came out. Carlito distracted the ref as McDonagh snapped Priest’s neck over the top rope. Balor then landed a top rope Coup de Gras. Cole talked with such certitude and resignation that it would lead to Priest losing that it sorta gave away Priest would be kicking out, which he did. Balor gave instructions to Carlito and McDonagh.

Carlito distracted the ref as Balor charged at Priest with a chair. Priest kicked the chair into Balor, then knocked Carlito off the ring apron, then backdropped McDonagh over the top rope. Priest set up a chokeslam, but Balor countered into a roll-up for a two count. Balor, with a sense of urgency, delivered a power elbowdrop and Coup de Gras to the back of Priest’s neck. He followed with another Coup de Gras to Priest’s back. He went for it a third time, but Priest this time caught him by the throat and landed a South of Heaven for a three count.

WINNER: Priest in 13:00.

(Good match for this place on the card with the action really picking up late.)

(4) LIV MORGAN vs. RHEA RIPLEY (w/Dominik Mysterio) – Women’s Title match

Liv and Dom made their entrance first. They drove onto the stage area in the low rider. They showed that the ref had a Ref Cam. Cole talked about Paul Ellering’s time in a shark cage hanging above the ring. Ripley then made her entrance. Cole said Triple H was once locked a shark cage during a match between Big Show and Mankind in 1999. Graves said Dom suffers from the trauma of doing time behind bars in a real prison. Ripley had a roll of Dom toilet paper and dabbed her face with it. Cole said it’d be cool to see all the ways fans use Dom’s toilet paper on TwitterX. Graves said he just opened Pandora’s Box and asked if he has ever met their fans. (Yeah, that’s asking for trouble.) Ripley enthusiastically called for Dom to be raised up in the cage. Dom showed fear as the cage was raised.

The bell rang 19 minutes into hour three. Ripley jumped Liv at the bell as Liv was distracted watching Dom in the cage being raised. Cole noted J.J. Dillon was locked in a cage above the ring in 1988 when Sting battled Ric Flair. Cole said Dom has now spent more time behind bars than he actually did in jail. “How dare you, Cole!” gasped Graves.

Ripley dominated methodically for the first several minutes Liv took over after a sunset bomb off the ring apron, sending Ripley hard into the barricade. Liv then landed a top rope Cody Breaker for a near fall at 7:00. Ripley came back with a Rip Tide attempt, but Liv countered and landed the Home Wrecker for a two count. Liv slapped Ripley and said Dom is her man and Ripley is nothing. Dom opened the door to the cage. Cole said he thinks he picked the lock and wondered if he learned that in prison. Cole wondered what he used. Ripley stood on the second rope and then noticed Dom had opened the door. She then climbed to the top rope and landed a frog splash for a near fall.

Ripley then applied a Prism Lock. She then beat up Liv at ringside under Dom. She gave Dom a crotch chop. Ripley then gave Liv a Rip Tide on the floor. Dom leaned out and fell head-first. He was hanging by his ankle. WWE staff looked helplessly at Dom’s predicament. Ripley laughed and then returned to the ring. Fans seemed a little stunned, wonder if that was supposed to have happened. Ripley told the ref she needed a minute to tend to something else. She then pulled a kendo stick out from under the ring. She walked over to Dom who begged off while still stuck hanging upside down. She smashed away at Dom over and over as Liv was still down at ringside. Raquel Rodriguez showed up and attacked Ripley. She threw Ripley back into the ring. Graves said they hadn’t seen her in months. The ref called for the bell. She gave Ripley a Tahana Bomb and then draped Liv’s limp body on top of her.

WINNER: Ripley via DQ in 13:00 so Liv retained the Women’s Title.

(That was a letdown and didn’t really work. The match content was just okay, but everyone was just waiting for Dom to factor in. The crowd seemed thrown off by Dom falling out of the cage. Raquel’s return didn’t lead to a big pop. And the finish was lame.)

(5) CODY RHODES & ROMAN REIGNS vs. JACOB FATU & SOLO SIKOA

Cole said Fatu is one of the scariest men he’s ever been around. The University of Arkansas band played Cody’s theme at ringside. Then they played along to Cody’s regular theme song playing as he entered the ring. Cole called this the most biggest match of Cody’s career. (Huh? I rewound to see if he really said that.) Reigns came out last. Cole said the Georgia Philharmonic played him out. Cole talked about Ole Anderson & Dusty Rhodes facing The Assassins in 1980 in the Omni Arena which stood on the same ground as the State Farm Arena, ending with Ole attacking Dusty after a year of friendship. He asked if Dusty’s son will face the same fate tonight.

When Reigns entered the ring, he locked eyes with Cody in an easy way. Cody stared back. Reigns then shifted his eyes back to Solo and Fatu. Cole said that was the first entrance he made to the ring for a match in nearly four years without the belt around his waist. “Roman looks naked without the title,” said Cole. Fans chanted “Solo sucks!” Cole and Reigns discussed who would start the match. It took a while.

The bell rang 55 minutes into the hour. Cody opened against Fatu. They collided mid-ring and neither budged. Cody landed an early Disaster Kick. Jacob brushed it off and kicked toward Cody. Cody brushed him off. When Solo entered, Reigns entered. Fans chanted, “OTC!” Cody and Reigns stood side-by-side. Reigns cupped his ear for a “F— you, Solo!” chant. Fatu tagged in Solo. Reigns then asked to be tagged in. Fans cheered in anticipation. Cody tagged him in. Cole said it’s the first time since WrestleMania that Reigns has stepped foot inside the ring for a match-up.

Reigns knocked Solo to the floor. Fatu entered illegally. Solo then jumped a distracted. Reigns from behind with a forearm. Fatu tagged and landed a running hip attack at 8:00. Reigns hot-tagged in Cody a minute later. Cody powerslammed Fatu and let out a roar. Cody imitated Dusty as he landed a Bionic Elbow. He followed with a Cody Cutter. He played to the crowd and then went for a Cross Rhodes. Solo interfered. Fatu gave Cody a pop-up Samoan Drop. Fatu yelled to Solo, “I love you!” He then bit Cody’s hand. “Savagery!” said Cole. “He’s a scary man.” Solo and Fatu took turns landing hip attacks on Cody in the corner. Fatu applied a nerve hold. Graves said Fatu seemed to be favoring his ankle, stemming from attacking Cody with such force he injured himself. Cole acknowledged he was in a walking boot for a while.

Solo tagged in. Cody leaped for a hot-tag, but Fatu yanked Reigns out of reach. Solo went back on the attack. A minute later, Cody lifted his knees to block a Swanton by Fatu. Reigns recovered at ringside and banged on the steps and then stood back in position for a tag. Cody leaped toward him and made the tag just as Solo tagged in at 18:00. Reigns landed a leaping clothesline and a running big boot. Reigns pounded away at Solo. Reigns flexed and played to the crowd before signaling for the Superman Punch. Solo blocked it and went for a Samoan Spike. Reigns countered with a crucifix for a near fall. Reigns landed a Superman Punch for a two count. Reigns then signaled for a spear, but Fatu grabbed him from behind. Reigns fended him off, but then Solo and Fatu landed a stereo superkick. Fatu landed a moonsault. Solo leaped off the opposite corner with a splash on Reigns. Cody broke up the cover.

Cody and Fatu battled at ringside net. Cody reverse-whipped Fatu into the ringside steps. Cody whipped Fatu into the ringside barricade seconds later. Cody came back and rammed Fatu’s head into a chair followed by a Cross Rhodes on the floor. “He’s still movin’,” exclaimed Graves. Cody put Fatu on the announce desk. Cody entered the ring and considered his options. He then climbed to the top rope and saluted. Reigns in the ring, then leaped with a splash on Fatu. Fans chanted “Holy shit!” and then “This is awesome!” Cody and Fatu were slow to get up.

Reigns and Solo sat up and exchanged strikes at 23:00. Reigns got a big pop when he landed a Samoan Drop. He followed with a big roar. Tama Tonga and Tonga Loa showed up at ringside. Reigns charged at them. Solo then caught Reigns with a spear for a near fall. Fans chanted, “Yeet!” Solo lifted Reigns by his hair. He noticed a man in a mask at ringside behind Tama and Loa. Solo was curious who it was. It turned out to be Jimmy Uso. Fans popped. Reigns speared a distracted Solo for the win.

WINNERS: Reigns & Rhodes in 26:00.

-Jimmy looked down at Reigns and nodded. Reigns stood and they hugged. “Blood is thicker than water,” Cole said. “Despite the friction, despite the animosity.” Jimmy and Roman turned to Cody, who was leaning in the corner, selling exhaustion. Cody stood and approached Reigns and they nodded at each other in what seemed like earned mutual respect and trust. Cody stood and watched Roman and Jimmy leave. Solo, Fatu, Tama, and Loa attacked Cody. Reigns hesitated to make the save. Jimmy talked Reigns into it. “Jimmy Uso forcing Roman to do the right thing and come to the aid of Cody,” said Cole. The new Bloodline retreated. Reigns picked up the belt and stared at it before handing it over to Cody. The Rock’s music played and he showed up with his Brauma Bull belt over his shoulder. Fans popped huge. The graphic behind him said, “Final Boss.” Rock just stared, then held up his fingers and counted 1, 2, 3 with them before turning and leaving. Cole wondered what this meant for The Bloodline.

(The predictable methodical slow start as is the Reigns formula, but the big moments will milked effectively. Jimmy’s return gave Solo an “out” for losing. I’m not sure how fans are going to feel about Reigns’ resistance to helping Cody when he was attacked four-on-one, but it might not have been at the forefront of their minds after Rock’s appearance.)

Jericho is awful.

TK is paying him $9 m per year into the near future.

TNA is more watchable than AEW at this point. I hope Statlander, Hayter, and Nightingale can get TF out of there and into nxt ASAP.

Page on main roster pretty quickly.

AEW is so bad.

He peaked in his whiny heel run in WCW. It's been a slow and steady decline ever since.

$9,000,000 a year for him is disgusting. I wouldn't pay him $90,000.

Jericho's entire post-WWE run is built on two good matches he had in NJPW. He has been absolute trash everywhere since those two matches.

And he was carried in those matches. Guy is garbage.
AEW in general has too many old guys.

Over 50:
Edge
Billy Gunn (60!)
Chris Jericho
Christian Cage
Dustin Rhodes
Jeff Jarrett
Big Show

Of these guys, I'd maybe keep Cage as a regular wrestler. Jarrett as an exec/character/occasional wrestler. Everybody else needs to just go.

And they have literally 20+ guys over 40, with some about to turn 50 like Shelton Benjamin.

(1) JAY WHITE vs. “HANGMAN” ADAM PAGE

White came out first. When Hangman came out, Excalibur and Schiavone said Hangman can’t possibly still believe he’s on the moral high ground over whatever his gripes once were. They fought back and forth for the first eight minutes. White scored a two count with a German suplex into a bridge at 8:00. Hangman rolled to the corner. Fans chanted, “Jay White! Jay White!” White set up a superoplex. Hangman dug into his eyes to break his grip. White knocked Hangman down with a chop. With Hangman hanging upside down in the corner, White gouged his eyes. Hangman, though, took control seonds later and followed with a Death Valley Driver on the ring apron at 10:00.

Hangman prepared for a Buckshot Lariat, but White charged at him. Hangman punched him. White, though, took Hangman down with a Dragon Screw. Hangman powerbombed White onto the ring apron and then onto the ringside steps. White collapsed to the ground. Some fans chanted, “You sick f—!” Excalibur said White never revealed the nature of his injury that caused him to miss time.

They fought up the aisle. White dropped Hangman knee-first over the edge of the ramp. Excalibur said he didn’t think he had seen that before. White continued the beating in the ring including chopping away at Hangman in the corner. He set up a Blade Runner, but Hangman countered with a Dead Eye. Both were down and slow to get up. White set up a Blade Runner again, but Hangman blocked it. Hangman grabbed the ref and attempted a low blow. White blocked it and then suplexed Hangman on the back of his head. White set up a Blade Runner again and then hit Dead Eye. Hangman couldn’t follow up as he clutched his knee in pain afterward.

Hangman eventually stood and set up a Buckshot Lariat. His knee gave out. White then caught him and delivered the Blade Runner. The crowd popped and then the ref counted three. Juice Robinson came out and celebrated with White.

WINNER: White in 17:00.

(That was a really good, smart match for an opener. They built slowly but with intensity, told a story with Hangman’s knee and many attempts by each to do their finisher, and White eventually got the win once he executed his finisher. This didn’t burn out the crowd but instead set the pace and effectively got a big pop for the finishing sequence. Glad to see White get the big win here, too. He’s as underutilized and as ready to shine in a top spot as anyone since he hasn’t been overexposed. There’s a hole to dig out for him after the Bullet Club derivative and MJF feud as a fill-in, but he’s a special talent.)

(2) MARIAH MAY vs. WILLOW NIGHTINGALE – AEW Women’s Title match

Willow came out first and Excalibur touted how popular she is wherever they go. Mariah then made her way out. The bell rang 26 minutes into the hour. Mariah took control early. She yanked on her mouth when pushing her against the top rope. Willow followed with a Pounce and took control, tossing Mariah into three of the top turnbuckle pads before throwing chops. Mariah yanked Willow off balance on the second rope and then mounted her and punched away.

Willow yanked Mariah’s face toward hers and bit her when Mariah leaned in to trash talk her. Willow applied an Indian Death Lock type hold mid-ring at 5:00. Willow slammed Mariah’s head into her knee before releasing the hold. Willow landed a running cannonball seconds later. She went for a top rope moonsault, but Mariah rolled out of the way and then hit Mayday for a near fall. After some counters, both went down and were slow to get up at 8:00. Willow went for a Death Valley Driver, but Mariah countered with a victory roll for a two count. Willow countered for a two count. Willow lifted Mariah and delivered a leaping Death Valley Driver into the corner for a near fall at 10:00.

Willow set up a top rope powerbomb, but Mariah countered with a huracanrana. She followed with a running knee strike and a Storm Zero for the win.

WINNER: Mariah in 11:00 to retain the AEW Women’s Title.

(Really good match. That was one of AEW’s better all-around women’s matches to date even with it going only 11 minutes. These two clicked. It didn’t feel like the culmination of a feud, and it had to be a tough call to have Willow lose again given how popular she is, but it seems like they have more investment in Mariah’s story right now.)

(3) JACK PERRY vs. KATSUYORI SHIBATA – TNT Title match

The bell rang 32 minutes into the hour. Perry took an early lap around ringside after early offense by Shibata. Shibata lost patience and chased him down. They chopped each other for a few minutes. Perry spit at Shibata. Shibata fought back with a flurry of offense including rapid-fire chops. Perry avoided a charge by Shibata. Shibata suplexed Perry at ringside into the side of the ring.

Back in the ring, Perry made a comeback and applied a Snaretrap. Excalibur talked about Shibata’s brain bleed years ago. Shibata made a comeback with a Death Valley Driver and then a sleeper. Perry bridged back and the ref counted Shibata’s shoulders down.

WINNER: Perry in 9:00 to retain the TNT Title.

(4) WILL OSPREAY vs. RICOCHET vs. KONOSUKE TAKESHITA (w/Don Callis) – AEW International Title match

The bell rang five minutes into the second hour. Ospreay and Ricochet dazzled early with a flashy sequence. Takeshita dropkicked them both as they struck poses. Callis on commentary said they scouted that. Takeshita set up a table at ringside. Ricochet avoided a charging Takeshita and then knocked Ospreay to the floor. Callis said Ricochet was ahead on points. Takeshita caught a diving Ricochet, but Ospreay then flipped onto both of them at ringside. Takeshita knocked Ricochet down with an elbow to the jaw.

All three were battling on the ring apron a minute later. Ospreay went for an OsCutter, but Ricochet resisted. Takeshita knocked Ricochet down, then caught Ospreay and delivered a Death Valley Driver. Ricochet then leaped at Takeshita with double-knees on the ring apron. A “This is awesome!” chant broke out. Ricochet put Takeshita on the table at ringside. Ospreay blocked Ricochet’s charge with a Spanish Fly mid-ring for a two count. Ospreay played to the crowd, but Ricochet countered Ospreay and scored a two count. Ricochet blocked a Hidden Blade and landed a double-underhook back suplex into a bridge for a two count. Ricochet followed with a 450, but Ospreay moved. Ospreay then gave Ricochet a Styles Clash. Takeshita broke up the cover at 9:00.

They hit a series a big spots leading to a Takeshita near fall in Ricochet. All three were down and slow to get up. An “AEW!” chant rang out. Takeshita took out Ricochet and Ospreay with hard elbow strikes to their jaws. Ospreay came back with a quick enzuigiri and then an OsCutter attempt. Takeshita ducked a clothesline and then clotheslined Ospreay, who flipped and landed on his feet. He followed with an OsCutter. Ricochet landed a splash on a vulnerable Ospreay for a believable near fall. A “Fight Forever!” chant broke out.

Ricochet and Ospreay battled on the ropes in the corner. Ricochet knocked Ospreay down. Takeshita lifted Ricochet on his shoulders. Ospreay clotehslined Ricochet, who landed on his feet. Ospreay then landed a Poison Rana. Ricochet followed with a Poison Rana. Takeshita gave both Ospreay and Ricochet a double German suplex. Takeshita played to the crowd and then flip dove onto both Ricochet and Ospreay at ringside. He followed in the ring with a lariat on Ricochet for a near fall at 16:00.

Ospreay leaped off the top rope and sent Ricochet crashing to the mat where Takeshita caught him, but Ricochet landed on him and scored a two count. Schiavone said this is one of the best matches of the year “by far.” Ricochet kicked Ospreay and then leaped off the top rope with a shooting star press. Takeshita kicked Ricochet in the face. They both landed on Ospreay for a two count. Excalibur said he wasn’t sure if it was Ricochet or Ospreay who were vulnerable to getting pinned there. (Would it matter?) Takeshita eyed the table he set up 15 minutes earlier. He tried to set up Ricochet on the ring apron, but Ricochet fought back and stomped on the back of Takeshita’s head.

Takeshita delivered a leaping cradle piledriver off the ring apron through the table. He high-fived Callis at ringside and pounded his chest. Back in the ring, Ospreay nailed him with a Hidden Blade for a one count. Ospreay landed another and got a two count before Callis yanked the ref out of the ring by his boots. Schiavone there are no DQ’s in a three-way. Callis entered with a screw driver and swung at Ospreay. Ospreay blocked it and set up a move. Kyle Fletcher then showed up in a hooded jacket and struck Ospreay with the screwdriver from behind. Ospreay looked up and took in the scene. Takeshita, meanwhile, delivered a running knee strike.Fletcher threw a ref into the ring who counted to three.

Fletcher gave Ospreay a Tiger Driver after the match. Osreay clutched his neck as Takeshita, Callis, and Fletcher celebrated. Well, Fletcher didn’t celebrate as much as stand over Ospreay and smile. Excalibur called it a stinging betrayal by Fletcher.

WINNER: Takeshita in 21:00 to capture the AEW International Title.

( A dazzling and hard-hitting crowd-pleasing rapid-fire highspot filled match. Takeshita did some athletic stuff, but he was also the heavy-hitter. It’s great to see Takeshita with a big win and perhaps a big focused push, although the finish was so full of shenanigans, it didn’t boost him in a credible way as much as just signalling his biggest push to date.)

(5) “THE BEAST” MORTOS vs. HOLOGRAM

The bell rang 49 minutes into the second hour. Excalibur said for those who aren’t familiar with Mexican wrestling, two-out-of-three-falls matches are the standard. Hologram scored a three count in 4:00 after a springboard crucifix bomb into a leverage three count.

For fall two, they brawled up the aisle. Mortos pressed and slammed Hologram onto the ramp. Back in the ring, he landed some power moves including a discus lariat for a three count. Schiavone said that’s the first time they’ve seen Hologram go down for a three count.

Hologram leaped off the top rope rope with a leaping dive onto Mortos on the floor. Back in the ring, Morton slammed Hologram off the top rope and then landed a powerbomb on his knee followed by another discus lariat for a believable near fall. Hologram came back with a swan dive crucifix bomb for a near fall. A winded Hologram landed his airplane spin bomb for the win.

WINNER: Hologram in 17:00.

(This felt like an intense fight at times, but at others times two wrestlers setting up spots, although that could be said about the three-way earlier, too. There were some big impressive spots and the crowd was largely into it enough to keep the energy going even if it doesn’t feel like this was a match that belonged on PPV. It does seem they want Hologram to be their rising Lucha star, so putting him on PPV to extend his win streak is part of that process. Mortos has been a pleasant addition to the mix lately.)

The bell rang 12 minutes into the third hour. Darby attacked Brody with chops, but Brody easily tossed Darby out of the ring. Brody then swung Darby into the ringside barricade. As he moved the steps, Darby leaped off the ring apron onto his back. Brody fended him off. Darby leaped at Brody, but Brody caught him and then chopped him to the ground. Brody put the steps on Darby and battered him at ringside for several minutes.

Back in the ring, Darby avoided a cannonball. He then rallied and landed a Coffin Drop on Brody at ringside at 6:00. Brody applied a sleeper and took over with a methodical attack. Darby eventually fired back with chops, but Brody applied a sleeper again and then a back suplex.

Darby eventually shoved Brody onto the steps at ringside. He followed with a top rope coffin drop onto Brody. Fans chanted “Holy shit!” Brody rolled back into the ring and Darby promptly landed another top rope Coffin Drop for a three count.

WINNER: Darby in 13:00.

(Good big man/small man match that played into Darby’s resilience and agility and speedy as an antidote to Brody’s brute force toughness.)

(7) THE YOUNG BUCKS (Matthew & Nicholas Jackson) vs. PRIVATE PARTY (Marq Quen & Isaiah Kassidy) – AEW Tag Team Title match

A vignette previewed the match. The Bucks made their entrance. Then a video aired on Private Party with footage from earlier in their careers and then working out in the streets with Amazing Red giving them a pep talk and saying they need to move on from partying to being more serious. Excalibur talked about Amazing Red passing down lessons to them. As Private Party came out, they showed Stokely Hathaway in the front row. Matthew asked them to cut Private Party’s music. He acknowledged that Private Party beat them five years, and now here they are in the biggest match of their careers. He said they’ve done nothing since then and they’ll always be a mid-card act. They held the belts up near them and said sniffing them is the closest they’ll come. Private Party heard enough and attacked them. The Bucks threatened to leave. They brawled on the stage.

Quen leaped off the top of the stage tunnel and landed the Bucks and Kassidy. Kassidy went after Matthew in the ring which led to the official start of the match 37 minutes into the third hour. Excalibur said many think Private Party are capable of so much more, and this is their chance. More dives at ringside took place.

The Bucks took control for a few minutes, followed by Private Party doing more dives at ringside and in the ring. They showed Action Andretti, Leyla Grey, and Top Flight watching at ringside. They also showed Stokely again. Matthew powerbombed Kassidy into their corner where Nicholas kicked him. Kassidy made a comeback and scored a near fall after a springboard faceplant.

They fought to ringside. Quen landed a 450 splash off the ringside barricade onto Matthew. All four were down and slow to get up. Back in the ring, Private Party landed Gin & Juice for a near fall at 11:00. Fans chanted “Private Party.” They landed More Bang for Your Buck on Nicholas for a near fall, broken up by Matthew who shoved Quen off of Nicholas before the three count.

The Bucks came back with a Doomsday Dropkick by Nicholas and then a dropkick into a senton splash followed by the EVP Trigger. Excalibur said the Bucks were going to retain which of course gave away the kickout a second later. Kassidy surprised Matthew with a small package for a near fall. Kassidy sold a neck injury as he tried to rally. Then they finished him with the TK Driver for the win. They showed Stokely reacting at ringside. Quen consoled Kassidy afterward who had his face buried in his hands. A doctor and ref checked on him and helped him up. Excalibur said they had nothing to be ashamed of.

WINNERS: The Bucks in 16:00 to retain the AEW Tag Team Titles.

The Bucks were right, apparently. Lots of action and some suspense and drama due to the late strong build in Private Party. Curious where the distraught Kassidy situation is headed.)

(8) MARK BRISCOE vs. CHRIS JERICHO (w/Big Bill, Bryan Keith) – ROH Title match

Jim Ross joined in on commentary for the first of two men’s world title matches. The bell rang at the top of the fourth hour.Briscoe absorbed an early flurry by Jericho and then landed an elbowdrop at ringside. Briscoe came back and dove onto Bill and Jericho at ringside. Briscoe then put Jericho on a chair and leaped off the ring apron with a Blockbuster. Briscoe slapped hands at ringside. Bill interfered and leaned a table against the announce desk. Orange Cassidy showed up and went after Bill with an Orange Punch.

Jericho took over again at ringside. Excalibur talked about what Jay Briscoe meant to people who knew him and how he was the rock of the family. Excalibur said this seems to be the first time since the death of Jay that Mark has seemed shaken due to what Jericho said about his brother to his face.

Jericho brought the match back into the ring at 5:00 and chopped away at Briscoe’s chest in the corner. Briscoe rallied and landed a Fisherman’s Buster for a near fall. Jericho countered a Jay Driller attempt and twisted Mark into a Walls of Jericho. Mark crawled to the rope. Keith took a shot at Mark as Jericho was distracting the ref which led to a near fall. Keith stood on the ring apron and yelled at the ref. Rocky Romero yanked him off the ring apron and fought him up the aisle. Jericho grabbed a chair, but Briscoe kicked it into him. Briscoe then leaped off the ladder and dove onto Jericho at ringside, crashing through a table leaning at ringside.

Briscoe threw Jericho into the ring. He went for a top rope move, but Jericho caught him mid-air with a Code Breaker for a two count. Briscoe ducked a Judas Effect and then set up a Jay Driller. Jericho countered with a Judas Effect. Jericho stalked Briscoe who was out on his back. He then set up a Jay Driller. Fans booed. Jericho landed it for a near fall. Fans cheered Briscoe’s kickout.

Briscoe fired up and yelled as he no-sold Jericho’s punches. He then punched away at Jericho and then landed a Death Valley Driver followed by his top rope elbowdrop. He pointed up to acknowledge Jay, then delivered a Jay Driller for the win.

WINNER: Briscoe in 14:00 to retain the ROH World Title.

(This wasn’t always smooth or pretty and graceful, but it had some emotional grit and they played it up well both in the match and on commentary. It’s interesting to see the ROH World Title get such a late slot on the card.)

(9) BRYAN DANIELSON vs. JON MOXLEY (w/Marina Shafir) – AEW World Hvt. Title

A video package previewed the match. Mox came out first. As Danielson was entering the ring, Mox jumped him. Danielson made a comeback at ringside with kicks as “Final Countdown” continued to play (which felt weird). Mox grabbed a cable and choked Danielson with it at ringside. Danielson escaped and choked Moxley. Shafir jumped on Danielson’s back with a sleeper. Mox then clotheslined him. Back in the ring, Danielson kicked a chair into Mox and the ref called for the bell.

The bell rang 24 minutes into the fourth hour. Danielson dove through the ropes onto Moxley at 2:00 and then kicked away at him on the Spanish announce desk. Mox fired back and piledrove Danielson onto the table. Fans chanted, “F— you, Moxley!” Mox went on sustained methodical intense offense for a few minutes. Shafir interfered again. She then pulled up the ringside mat.

Mox, meanwhile, put his boot against Danielson’s neck against the ringside steps. He set up a piledriver on the cement floor, but Danielson backdropped out of it. Danielson got in a stretch of spirited offense, but Mox made a comeback and landed a running stomp. He applied a Bulldog Choke mid-ring.

Danielson fought out of it. They stood and exchanged wild swings at 16:00. Danielson went down first. When Mox went for a kick, Danielson caught his boot and then he fired back with a flying clothesline. Shafir grabbed Danielson’s boot as Danielson set up his running knee. The ref booted her from ringside.

Danielson landed a Busaiku Knee at 19:00 for a near fall. Exaclibur said fans are rooting for Danielson around the world. Danielson took a breather with Moxley down on his back. He then grabbed Moxley’s arm and stomped away at his body. He then cinched on the LeBell Lock mid-ring. Mox teased tapping, but instead crawled toward the bottom rope. Danielson grabbed his arm, but Mox put his boot on the bottom rope instead. Mox rolled to the floor. Danielson leaped thorugh the ropes, but Mox caught him and delivered a Death Rider on the concrete floor. Mox covered Danielson and Excalibur said it was the end of Danielson’s career. Danielson kicked out at 22:00.

Mox drove elbows into Danielson’s shoulder and neck and then applied a chinlock. Danielson escaped and landed another Busaiku Knee for a near fall at 24:00. Mox caught Danielson with two lariats for a two count. Mox gave Danielson a Death Rider mid-ring. Danielson kicked out at one. Mox told Danielson not to make him do it. Danielson spit at him. Mox then delivered a leaping piledriver. He then applied a sleeper. Danielson flailed desperately. Mox dropped back and the ref called for the bell. The air went out of the arena and it fell silent. Justin Roberts announced Moxley as the new AEW World Champion.

WINNER: Moxley in 26:00 to capture the AEW World Hvt. Title.

(One hell of a main event. It kind of felt like the only finish that made sense short of some big angle or screwy finish. Mox was built up so much with his new gimmick so it’d be hard to imagine him losing. It seemed Grand Slam was changed to accommodate this timeline.)

-Claudio Castagnoli, Shfari, and Pac joined Mox. Mox produced a plastic bag. Wheeler Yuta and Darby Allin then ran out quickly for the save. Mox and Co. bailed out to ringside. Yuta then gave Darby a running knee to the face. Yuta kneeled and reacted to the moment. Excalibur asked if Yuta has been in on it all along. They duct taped Darby’s wrists to the middle rope. Mox gave Yuta the plastic bag and he put it over Danielson’s head. Schiavone called for the police. Security ran out. Apparently all other wrestlers were locked in a room somewhere or went back to the their hotels. Private Party finally ran out. Then Jeff Jarrett, which got a pop. Mox jabbed Jarrett with a chair.

Claudio put Danielson’s head in a chair. Claudio stomped the chair and pressed down on it. A bunch of other babyfaces finally made it to the ring. Ross said, “Where the hell have you guys been?” (He’s the best as just calling out what people applying logic to AEW are often thinking. I’m not sure it’s always for the best, though.) As medics tended to Danielson, Schiavone said Danielson wasn’t moving and he was worried for him. He said it’s an issue of quality of life. Excalibur went to soft talking and his voice cracked as he said this was beyond anything he’s seen in AEW. They showed Cassidy and Darby at ringside looking emotionally broken as they watched. Danielson was strapped to a back brace. The PPV ended with what felt like a funeral scene.

Edge-Has brought nothing to the promotion. Waste of money. Get rid of him.

Billy Gunn-Amazing that he can still go in the ring to any degree at all but he is never going to be anything more than a nostalgia act at this point. Have the Acclaimed turn on him and retire him. Make him an agent.

Chris Jericho-Keeps reinventing himself but does anyone care anymore? Hasn't had it ever since MJF threw him off a cage and he landed safely at ringside atop a pile of matresses. I'm impressed that he still has a wrestling mind but at this point, changing his character is the only thing he still has. Get rid of him.

Christian Cage-Still legit and can still go. Him and MJF are the two best heels in the promotion. Keep him. He still has enough gas left in the tank. Leaving WWE years ago helped him develop beyond what Vince was willing to give him, unlike his overrated partner Edge.

Dustin Rhodes-Agent fodder. It is time to hang it up, Dustin.

Jeff Jarret-On screen GM with just enough juice that they can always tease a feud as an authority figure.

Big Show-Retire from the public eye. It has been over for this guy for ages.

Joe Koff, former COO of ROH, has died of cancer at 73. He was the man who convinced Sinclair to purchase ROH when Cary Silkin was out of cash. Without Koff the brand would almost definitely have been bought by Vince and folded into WWE developmental, which would have drastically changed the landscape of the business. Without ROH there is no platform in the US for NJPW and Bullet Club and likely no AEW.

Koff managed to produce several hundred episodes of TV and put on some incredible PPVs during his run with the company from 2011 to 2021.

After debuting last week in the WWE, Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley (Motor City Machine Guns) beat DIY to earn the #1 Contenders, then defeat Tama Tongo and Tongo Loa of The Bloodline to win the WWE Tag Team Titles. Three matches and now champions for the MCMG :)
