Now that Feinstein's disarmemrment bills are effectively sunk we need "videogame control"

It is my understanding that Heller and McDonald's protections aren't infinite.

They aren't.

But I'm inclined to believe the "common use" standard, as set forth by the court, will invariably mean that bans on semiautomatic firearms are completely off the table. So-called "assault weapon" bans do not pass constitutional muster either because, as you noted, there is no difference from a functional standpoint.

I think bans on standard capacity magazines, the magazines that ship with and weapons are designed for, will not hold up in court.

In a number of states the legislators have overreached with their gun control legislation. They've set themselves up for lawsuits they can't possibly win. The court will strike those regulations down and the meaning (or, at least the court's interpretation of) the Second Amendment will be strengthened in favor of less restriction.

We really, really, really, really need to deregulate sound suppressors.

Feinstein on games.

Shit article, but to the point of the thread.

I think would-be murderers and psychopaths aren't created by videogames. I think such people certainly do seek out violent content. It's available in all forms of media.

If games are to blame then I'm sure they only play but one part. It's certainly a cultural problem. Does a culture which glorifies and desensitizes youth to violence invariably create an atmosphere in which psychopaths are more apt to be created?

I don't know.

This. People always equate them with "OMG SILENT ASSASSINS" instead of reduction in noise pollution and hearing damage. The question is, how do you get people outside of the firearm enthusiast community to perceive it that way when their greatest sources of exposure are Call of Duty and movies?

And body armor.

Completely deregulated.

It is only illegal to own body armor if you are a felon. It is illegal to use body armor in the comission of a crime.

There is no state it is illegal to own armor in - the only restriction I am aware of is in one state in New England where you can not buy armor over the phone, mail order, or through the internet. Must be purchased in state or brought in from outside.

EDIT: It's illegal to export body armor outside the USA w/ out the right papers. Don't do it!

Education? I dunno. It'll be difficult to overcome the hysteria and sheer lies put forth by the anti-gun crowd on that issue.

I'd even settle for the NFA branch getting more examiners if the CLEO requirement was removed from a Form 1/4. If I could go to a store, fill out the Form 4, pay the tax, have the dealer mail it off, and get say a 1-2 week turn around that'd be golden.

Be better if silencers were reclassified as firearms rather than NFA devices. You'd still have to get a background check to get one.

Micheal Moore pretty much nailed it all in Bowling for Columbine.

Too bad that nearly everybody misunderstood that movie (especially Gunfaggots)

Basically, Moore pins the American phenomenon of violence (esp gun violence) on the cycle of irrational fear and mass consumption. All driven by our media and corporations. The media sells it, and we live the role.

It is a good movie, you should check it out.

you can't pin all the blame on the audience

Moore makes some great points, but his methods are combative, obnoxious, and insulting

he'd probably still be relevant if he could just have an adult conversation about the message he's trying to convey

Looks like universal background checks are dead for the moment. That's heartening.

Lots of terrible legislation is in the pipe, however, in states like California where some really onerous legislation is poised to pass.

i hear a bill is being drafted that would only allow citizens to use magazine clips that hold half a bullet

We're fucked in CA at the moment. We'll just have to continue to fight it out in court.

And of course we could just not follow the law. Not that I'd advocate that, of course.
