No sales tax (VAT) either on used goods.

Unfortunately in the US we continue to pay fees when selling and sales tax when buying (thanks to South Dakota vs Wayfair).

As usual, Americans are subsidizing foreigners. When will it end?

Surely there's a tip due somewhere too?

SD vs Wayfair was some complete butt fuckery by the government, typical. The Supreme Court is a huge fucking joke.

They got rid of listing fees awhile ago, seemed cool but they charge a shipping fee now instead.
It's a percentage of the total shipping costs charged, making it impossible to sell larger or heavy items.
It could've been useful to stop sellers who fleece buyers with inflated shipping costs at one time.

For a long time I just charged a flat fee of what it should generally costs to ship,
but for the last 10 years+ I've been putting in the dimensions and trying to let Ebay figure the costs per listing.

They were never able to do a very good job at it, always under or overcharging.
Then for awhile they were consistently over charging a couple bucks and that was fine with me because it offset
final listing fees and other costs. I tried before to rebate buyers but that typically didn't work out and they made drama so I just let it be.

Now it's consistently undercharging buyers on shipping costs and with all the other costs and fees I've had several transactions lately that only netted me a few bucks. On the bright side I've been donating more to thrift stores, it's just easier than to deal with all that or trying to sell locally for most stuff.
You should be able to use it as a tax write off at the end of the year too.

Yeah old news in good old Germany. It started right after Ebay sold & kind of killed Kleinanzeigen.

nothing like selling $1200 worth of stuff and only able to pocket 800 after fees and taxes. Then get a tax bill at the end of the year as well. Man, if only Trump would have won in 2016 an fixed all this ... just kidding, presidents don't matter. We're all just getting bent over constantly.

The new 1099-K rules and tens of thousands of new IRS agents were added by ya boi Biden.

I’m pretty sure they still charge business users in the UK.

And they encourage regular users to pay extra to get seen further up the listings or some shit like that to make money.
