One of those Saturn ports that I really, really wanted but never got and never played. Just watched a bit of gameplay for a minute or two, and all I could think was, I'd rather play Space Harrier than this. I'm a big Taito fan too.

That's how I felt when actually playing it, sadly. God damn if those grafx aren't cool as fuck though.

Other games probably didn’t sell well enough on those platforms. That aleste collection was also switch only no?

Don't know tbh. I know which release you're referring to, but I was never interested in it so never followed up its release.

Was that after the Switch release or same time? Just curious... I wouldn't outright object to getting this on Switch, but I'd rather not if it was going to be coming to PS4/5.

I can't explain exactly why, but the graphics remind me a lot of Alfa System's two PS1 light gun games, Project Horned Owl and Elemental Gearbolt.

edit: Ah, I guess I can explain it now. It's the mesh of 3D environments and 2D sprites that jogged my memory, especially when the size of the sprites change on how close they get to you and it just feels a bit 'off'. I made a comparison here:

The zero animation, static-ness of some sprites in Night Striker GEAR just gave me a deja vu feeling, not that they look similar - it just gives a similar feeling.

Off topic but i played Horned Owl not too long ago and the thing that came to mind when playing it was that "this is the Steel Gunner 3 we never got from Namco".

Not a bad game by any means and it is enjoyable, You can see the building blocks for what became Elemental Gearbolt.
