After watching some actual gameplay video HERE, i'm bummed how the game will be. Maybe I'm just being critical, but I think Team Ninja may be releasing a bomb. Not to mention I find it sad they are trying to rewrite the history of Samus and how she came to be.

now I know what the M stands for. :crying:

I predict this game is going to control terribly.

Has anyone else noticed how other companies are making Nintendo games better than Nintendo themselves? First Shadow Complex and then 3D Dot Game Heroes.

Looks like a DS game. Appears to control horribly and where the hell is the BGM?!

I hope this is like pre-alpha game play.... because that looks like dookie.

I'm pretty excited for this game. However, I do wish they didn't include the 1st person elements from the Metroid Prime series....I would have much preferred if they just eliminated that aspect of gameplay entirely. I thought the Prime games were ok, but i wouldn't really say I was a fan.

Anyway, I'll reserve judgement till I play it, but ultimately I think it will be enjoyable and a worthy purchase. It's interesting because before I bought a Wii I always used to wonder if there would be enough games that I would want for the system. Now that I finally got one, I find that there are so many games I want that I have a pretty big backlog of games to buy. Not nearly as crappy a console as I thought it was initially.

Erp. You know what, I actually watched the video in question, and I have to say... You guys are right. It looks bad. Samus runs too fast and it looks loose and sloppy. What the fuck.

I guess I'll wait for some reviews. Goddammit Nintendo, Metroid is one of my favourite series ever. Don't fuck with that shit!

I really wish they would of just let Retro Studios make a new chapter in the series instead of this. I could be wrong, but this games has bad written all over it. I really hope I'm wrong.

They must be stopped.

IMO there's never been a bad Metroid game. The DS one was extremely mediocre, not bad. We can't let that happen now.

First-person missile launching is kind of odd.

If I had a Wii I'd be willing to try this game out. But something about it just looks off. I heard the game was originally intended to be an on rails adventure. I don't know how someone could even come to the conclusion that a Metroid game should be on rails.

Am I alone in not really considering Team Ninja to be the same without Itagaki? I know that it takes more than one person to make a game, but damn, Itagaki was an icon, dude was larger than life. I think it was pretty clear that he was the creative force behind DOA and the Ninja Gaiden series, regardless of how talented, tech-wise, the rest of the studio may have been.

Also, yeah, that gameplay vid looks really boring, terrible choice for footage to release, seems to me.

Ever since Metroid Prime, which I feel was the best Metroid ever made, this series has taken a giant shit. MP2 and 3 were both garbage, and this just looks like crap. Imagine if this were a brand new game series. Let's call it "space girl saves the universe".... we'd all be having a good laugh at how horrible this looks. But, because it's Metroid, people are paying slight attention. Glad to see a lot of people in this thread have common sense enough to recognize that this game looks poor.

I'm really hoping this game plays a lot better than it looks, but yes, that footage definitely doesn't inspire much confidence.

It's really odd how the new Metroid title lurched that way, in light of DKC and Kirby looking as if they are really returning to their 2D roots on the Wii. I guess all we can hope for, should this game suck, is that Nintendo will go, "Alright, fuck the dumb shit, let's make the 2.5D true Metroid title everyone has really been pining for."

But yeah, the gameplay footage is troubling. How in the hell is the player even aiming? There doesn't seem to be a visible cursor, and if it's doing some sort of auto-locking for all the shooting, that's really, really...lame.

Still hoping, but fairly skeptical now. :crying:

If you wanna tread carefully, Amazon has it for $50, then you get a $20 credit on your next video game purchase.

Reminds me of "One" on the PSX.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fHbC06XO9gg

. . .but even less interesting.

"One" was the bomb. It felt like the true PS generation Contra. Or at least through the first two levels it did.

Saw the "M" videos and am really disappointed they didn't make it into a full 2D remake like New SMB or DKC Returns. I never dug the elements of Prime and just preferred straight up FPS games that didn't have the convoluted map system. Might be just me, but with the amount of exploration and backtracking necessary in usual Metroid titles, the Prime series just seemed to really require a lot more time than a similar FPS Action or Adventure game should take.

I'm probably in the minority who thinks Metroid and Castlevania should always stay 2D.

Before Prime came out, I was on the boat with Metroid never changing from 2D. I'm sure you can do a search on this website and find me saying something to that degree.... but now that I've played Prime, I can't imagine going back to the old way. This game, however... really, I haven't a clue what they're trying to do.

You hit the nail on the head. I think that's what bugged me about that series. As each of the games progressed, I just found myself eventually losing interest. I'm actually playing through Corruption for the first time now...I'll try and make it the whole way through.

Anyways, in regards to Other M (and I guess Prime) I don't mind a series trying something new or different...so long as it works and the game is enjoyable.

This is what made me love the Prime series.

As a general rule, I consider FPS' to only be for multi-player and very rarely does one have what it takes to make a great single campaign happen. BioShock and the Prime series pulled it off flawless.

I was excited for this for a little while, until I remembered that I've never liked anything Team Ninja has done. This looks like something developed 10 years ago and being resurrected now for a release. No thanks, I'll just stick to the older titles.

Sorry man, but I'd have to disagree with you. MP was a decent game, but in no way does it compare to Super Metroid. I'm pretty pumped for Zero Mission seeing as we're finally out of this FPS bull the series has stagnated in these past few years.

My main gripe is, why isn't Nintendo exclusively developing this? Metroid is a flagship franchise, and while I like Team Ninja, why do they give it away?

I'm definitely willing to give it a shot, but my hopes are lot lower than they were, that's for sure.

Not at all. It's not really analogous, but how about Konami without Kojima? Or Nintendo without Miyamoto? Itagaki isn't as good as either of those two guys, but he's definitely responsible for a lot of style and creativity, whether you love him or hate him.
