George Foreman passes away

Former heavyweight boxing champion George Foreman, known as much for his gregarious personality as his vicious right hook, died Friday. He was 76 years old.

A two-time heavyweight champion, he also won gold at the 1968 Mexico City Olympics and later saw success, in his post-boxing career, pitching the now-omnipresent countertop grill that bears his name.

Foreman's family announced his death in a post on Instagram.

"A devout preacher, a devoted husband, a loving father, and a proud grand and great grandfather, he lived a life marked by unwavering faith, humility, and purpose," the statement said. "A humanitarian, an Olympian, and two-time heavyweight champion of the world, He was deeply respected — a force for good, a man of discipline, conviction, and a protector of his legacy, fighting tirelessly to preserve his good name— for his family."

No cause of death was provided by his family.

Rip grill dude! I remember being a kid watching one of his fights and they showed him training by pulling a jeep up a hill by a rope that was tied to him. Hella koll.

Was fami molested as a kid? Like did someone grab his dick and ever since then he's this Crusader?
No, I just don't forget when celebrities get outed as wifebeaters, rapists, child molesters, Nazi paraphernalia hoarders, being Brett Favre in general, etc.

So when a guy that admitted to beating the shit out of his wife and then later had three different underage girls accuse him of sexual assault like George Foreman dies, it annoys me to watch people pretend they were some great human being.

People make mistakes, you, me, them, everybody, everybody. Not on us to judge, coz we're full of mistakes as well.

Greatness and goodness have never been the same thing. Ali/Frazier/Foreman and Foreman's comeback are stories that matter, to the extent that boxing matters.

Tony Todd, Carl Weathers and now George Foreman. A lot of faces I grew up on are fading away. Foreman history is tainted though.

RIP George

I'm going to say that I don't think we can hold professional boxers to the same moral standards as normal people. In the same way as I don't think we can hold a woman who marries a man who hits people in the face for a living to the same intelligence level as normal women either.

When someone shows an interest in becoming a boxer it should be looked upon as an extreme mental failing and treated as such, but we don't, in fact we encourage it, so I see the responsibility for that as being as much on us as them. Basically, it's a price we all pay for our childish blood lust.

It's like "we purposely trained him wrong, as a joke" but for your moral character
