I'm not too far into the books yet but I know it hasn't happened.

The talk of someone dying that hasn't died in the show or books yet has me worried. Doubt it will be Stannis but they have reminded us in every episode of her revenge boner.

Stannis is the last Baratheon left. How many houses have been completely eradicated so far? I am struggling to think of one.

For those that do not read the books...and that watched last nights episode...I have a question:

Spoiler:
Right at the end of the episode, when Jaroh Mormont snatched Tyrion, he stated "I'm taking you to the queen"...which "queen" do you think me means? Cersei or Daenerys?

You know...that's what I thought until my wife suggested the other. The other could happen if you really think about it...

I guess this will let HBO avoid the special effects costs of midgets jousting on dogs and pigs.

For the shit of it...began watching GoT all over again now that is easily available on HBO now.

MUCH easier to digest now. Hell, when I first started watching the show, I had a hard time wrapping my head around all of the characters, factions, lands, etc. Now that I know the houses, characters and plot lines...I can go back and watch it more clearly. Much better the second time around.

One of the WIki's is a big help.

guys, I want to know, assuming you both read the books and watched the shows so far

Spoiler:

Is Mance dead on the show? In the books his execution was faked with Melisandre's magic, but on the show there's no evidence of that, and as it was portrayed, I don't the show can go that direction now.

The problem is that George RR Martin hasn't finished the next book, and we are running out of source material. HBO can probably finish it for him, but the result would be a complete disaster among the fans, even if it's any good.

I like how GRRM presents Kalissi, it's the idealist being overwhelmed by the reality of balance, like a good guy finally getting a shot at running things but not knowing how to manage power 'cause he's so busy patching the wounded that he forgot they need stability more than freedom. I feel that was a nice very original aspect and yet so palpable that I'm surprised I haven't seen it done before.

Why is Kalissi sleeping with dufus is beyond me but hey, it's gonna be hard to top Momoa, the guy played his character well, unforgettable.

Liked episode 4. It's still a set-up episode, but we saw more shit going down.
Other than the stuff at Dorne, everything else was good stuff.

It was SLOW last night...

"my queen...we want to have the fights"
"no...I do not want you to have the fights"
"but my queen, people love the fights"
"I don't care"

How many more times are they going to have the same conversation? Ugg...

I was reading an interview with the creators of the show and they want to finish it by season 7. They said the show will have a different ending to the books. We are on the way to the finale apparently.

Not only is Vikings boring as fuck, it can't sustain its own thread.

Watch better shows Chris. Stop wasting your time with garbage.

Season 7 is too soon. It will all seem rushed. Maybe if it was 9 or even 10 seasons then I would be ok with it.

They didn't specifically say season 7 but from reading that you would think there is another 2 maybe 3 seasons left at most.

Personally I hope they end it soon. I think too many of the good strong characters have been killed off and the strong ones left are just becoming too predictable. Something big needs to happen soon.

I agree, but I don't think 20 or so episodes are good enough. There is so much happening everywhere that we need to lay the outcome down at a steady pace.

My main issue is that there are currently too many sub plots running:

Kings landing and all the shit going on there
Jamie lannister
Imp lannister
Stark girl 1
Stark girl 2
John snow
Stark boy
Greyjoy
Dragon queen
Barathian guy
Amazon woman and her squire

I don't have time to check the spelling of these characters, but you get the point. These are all sub plots either running or hanging...an episode is getting to be like a shitty soap opera, you literally get to see 10 min of each plot line and that's it. Or, the entire show is devoted to a few and the others are left hanging. It's getting too messy...

This is a great post and it's how I've been feeling lately. Even though I think the production values, direction and acting are all still top notch, I feel like the show is too fragmented and they squander the hour they have every week with pointless interactions rather than using the time to intelligently advance the plot.

Tyrion Lannister is one of the biggest impediments to the show now. HBO is so fixated on showing us his 'Tyrion and quipping sidekick' roadshow that ultimately leads to NOTHING OF CONSEQUENCE that other plot points aren't being given time to be flesh out as much as they need to be. Likewise with almost everything that Danaerys is doing right now.

I'm not quitting on the show but I feel they've incorporated too many plot points from the books that need more development time in order to be satisfactory storylines. It's a poor distillation of the source material and they probably could have done a better job cherry picking for the things they wanted to focus on in the TV show to create a more compelling narrative without losing any of the drama or character bits.
