WHATS NEW IN VERSION 3.1
------------------------

Additions / Changes

Hiscore saving to memory card!!!
--------------------------------

Big thanks to smkdan for allowing the use of his code here. This is not fully tested and there could very well be problems. To this end and to allow the greatest testing possible this feature is also included in the free 3.0 version of the unibios. This should work in both MVS and AES mode but given scores are saved to backupRAM on MVS there could be extra problems. If this is the case only use the feature on AES hardware. There may also be issues with multigame bootleg carts.

To enable, format the card using the unibios (must be formatted with unibios). Then set the last character of the cards username to '!'.

To stop filling the hiscore tables with scores obtained using cheats, debug DIPs or patches high score saving will be disabled if these features are used until the system is reset.

NOTES.
It may not work with all games so please report issues you have.

Puzzle Bobble
In AES mode high scores are not loaded until the 2nd time the score table draws.

PC-2-NEO Improvements
---------------------

U.S.B. support is added and information will be made available in due course on how to build the hardware. Speeds to expect are 155k/sec upload and 32k/sec download. This spec will be ported to the NeoGeo CD system making it possible to upload entire homebrew/small games faster than loading from the CD.

Parallel port upload and download speeds improved to around 2.5k/sec. The new PC client is required which is available on the homepage.

Other changes
------------

• Added ability to disable the splash screen on AES providing a memory card is present. To use format the card using the unibios (must be formatted with unibios). Then set the second from last character of the cards username to '!'.

• Stopped error message when changing games with multigame bootleg carts.

• Added the screensaver to the jukebox.

• Removed Crossed Swords protection that cleared the bios System and Region settings. This protection could be used in other games also.

• Removed SS4 Korean backupRAM protection.

• Removed RBFFS Korean backupRAM protection.

Fixes

• Fixed currupted graphics on splash screen/menu when playing NgDevTeam games (thanks Timm).
• Fixed memory card manager username input curruption if the sysyem is overclocked to 16Mhz.
• Fixed bstars going funny after exiting ingame menu sometimes.

Wow, just in time, I literally sent an email last night to do some Phoenix chips, so this is a wonderful bonus!

Awesome news Raz! If I remember correctly from the testing smkdan and I did on the memory card saving, you will fill up the original 2k SNK memory card fast. The HS tables are much larger than regular save files. Did this change?

Nice to finally see this out. I've used the hiscore saver in my own AES since mid-late last year and didn't have any issues so hopefully there's no bugs left over.

Razoola has to confirm if he added compression on some games after I gave the code (?) but I only supported a few compressed games originally. Increasing code size was a concern so I don't know what happened there. RB2 was the worst and wouldn't fit at all on an empty card. The later FF games that save all those character stats are huge in general. Everyone who got in on your card sales will probably be OK but someone with a large collection may run into size issues. A stock memcard just isn't enough but 32K would work very well.

There is no real compression with this version, its something that could be added though in the future.

Hi Raz,

I was thinking about PC2NEO and USB support.

Would it be difficult to make it work with an Arduino PCB?

http://arduino.cc/en/Main/ArduinoBoardUno

It has a cost (~30USD) but I like the idea of a standardized platform, not only for data transfer, but also for other projects.

I.e. I'm working on an hardware joystick input recorder/player based on Arduino...it would be cool to share INPs (but for real hardware).

Just a guess.

So NTM, best you start making some more NeoSaveMasta memory cards... I think there may now be more of a demand for them.

Hi Raz,

.

Unfortunately it's not possible because the Arduino doesn't support USB in hardware. The best you could hope for is about 10KB/sec assuming 115200 on the serial port. The Neo is capable of 15x that performance on the joystick ports. There are Arduino-like devices that work, for instance the Micropendous:

http://code.google.com/p/micropendous/

Those are twice the cost of an Arduino but an order of magnitude more useful. All that would be required to make that work as a USB-2-NEO is a DB15 connector to attach to the NGCD joystick port.

FYI the latest Arduino board named Leonardo does support USB natively.

So what can you do with the serial/usb support? Can one backup/restore memory cards for example?
