What I took away from the commercial:

  1. Only Jerks play Pole Position, especially on the weekend
  2. It'll bust your crank and leave skid-marks on your soul?

I've never seen F-1 racing in that light before.

Best. Commercial. Ever.

I like how they get thrown into the F1 cars and the wife is worring about her hair. lol

Even the theme song was badass.

The theme song was rocking. My soul was indeed skid marked.

Reminded me of "Pac Man Fever".

And God said "YOU'RE GONNA PLAY POLE POSITION"

And then He lifted up their car and exploded it.

Great commercial, I think it was posted here a loong time ago --either that or I tracked it down elsewhere-- but it's awesome.

Phil Hartman was also in a Atari commercial.

Those Intellivision commercials were brilliant.

Oh yeah, go here for over 5,000 video game commercials. Updated almost everyday:

Edit: The funny thing about Pole Position was that Bally Midway had a chance to sell the arcade version of the game in the US. The deal was that Bally Midway figured people were getting sick of tired of playing racing games so they publish Namco's other game at the time, Mappy. So when Namco went to Atari, Atari sold the US version of Pole Position.

So which one became more popular, Mappy or Pole Position?

You should figure out the answer.

marketing is everything. It even could make me believe that Pole position is an awesome game.

Which it is an awesome game. :)

Well, I played that at the arcades in the 80's. And it just didn't impressed me at all even that time.

Yeah, I gotta give the nod to Pole Position...but the first 3 seconds of Bayou Billy is nothing to sneeze at either.
