Picked up this mint condition Blazing Star. Cart ended up being from Aggressors of Dark Kombat. Boards were pretty decent.

Not mint condition.
This was a joke sir.

Looks like an original GanGan label underneath though, so that's good. If the game is really ADK, why the Blazing Star label?
The boards are Blazing Star. Something must have happened to the original shell. one of the boards is fine, the other looks like it has just a touch of wear on the back from bouncing around loose a bit. Ive seen boxes of "boards only" shit from China so maybe something like that I guess.

Hyperbole, bro. Outside of hardcore neo fans, most people haven't even heard of Blazing Star. You're just too close to it, living in the neo-sphere for so long.

Let's see what google thinks....

Wow I had never hear of SOS looks like such a cool game. good score!
There are two games on the snes called SOS for some reason. Haha
That one is really cool though. You have to save yourself from a sinking ocean liner, and there are puzzle/rpg elements if I recall. Haven't played it in years, but it's a memorable game.

Better pick that up in collector condition soon then if it's a must have ...
Why not just scroll through the thousands of roms in your emulator thing you're always talking about. You probably have it in there. Try it, you might like it. It's certainly a creative and unique game for the era.

SOS, now that is a great game to have a CIB of.

I wouldn't describe it as having any RPG elements, I guess the whole game could be a puzzle, the ship is nothing but a maze. Really, it is an escort and escape game. There's four playable characters, they each start in a different part of the ship, the goal is to find survivors and escape with them before time runs out, real world 1 hour.

It is my vote for "games as art", because SOS clearly puts artistic vision ahead of game design. If one wants the best ending by saving as many survivors as possible, the game becomes extremely difficult, partly due to dumb AI path finding and the Mode 7 rotations making the ship hard to traverse. Given the obvious inspiration from The Poseiden Adventure where most of the characters die, I am convinced that SOS was designed on purpose to have survivors die on you.

Of course, this assumes the game gets played instead of the box being gooby gawked at.
