They really cheaped out on the offer IMO, which is also a bad look
This is good for sports media. JJ Reddick will be hired. Bronny will be drafted at 17. Everything will fall apart and the last Lebron and JJ podcast will be awkward and epic.

They offered a guy with no track record in the NBA the 6th highest salary in the league. He just wasn't interested in being LeBron's scapegoat when they inevitably are the 6th or 7th best team in the West again. Can't say that I blame him... I'd rather be a god in Connecticut than a chump in LA.

Kentucky offered him more and his family was from the East Coast as was he, you gotta really go all out under those circumstances if that's your guy. Also, 6 years also would've put him here longer than LeBron has left which I gotta imagine would be the first time in his career that would be likely to happen.

That said, your last point is probably spot on

LA's fired three coaches in LeBron's 5 years there, including one that won the title and are still paying two of them. The chances of Hurley outlasting LeBron were pretty low given his history.

also, if dan hurley is a LeGoat type of guy...he has a couple years, at most, probably with lebron then left with nothing. if he's a LeFagit type of guy, it's a no-win situation and the money wasn't worth it. this was not a serious attempt by the lakers. it was a hail mary just to see...but mostly a smokescreen to show that lebron doesn't run the lakers.

Luke Walton was in his 3rd year at the time and also pretty damn awful. Vogel definitely got a raw deal though

Even if you think Luke Walton sucked (which he probably did), LeBron was injured for a significant section of his only season and Ingram, Ball and Rondo all went down for the year. Kind of tough to gauge how good he was for the team when its best players weren't playing. LeBron getting a coach fired so he can install "his guy" (only to eventually get that guy fired too) is his MO.

I'm already bracing myself for 1-2 years of JJ Reddick

Jerry West dies at 86.

NBA legend Jerry West, whose prolific playing, coaching and management career landed him on the league's logo, died on Wednesday.

The 86-year-old had most recently been working for the Los Angeles Clippers.

"Jerry West, the personification of basketball excellence and a friend to all who knew him, passed away peacefully this morning at the age of 86," according to a statement by the Clippers. "His wife, Karen, was by his side."

The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame member was an all-American at the University of West Virginia before playing 14 seasons for the Los Angeles Lakers.

Despite the fact West's career came in an era with a much shorter playoff schedule, his name is still all over NBA postseason record books: 4,457 points (ninth most) 1,622 baskets made (ninth) and 1,213 free throws made (seventh) just to name a few.

In regular season play, West made 7,160 free throws, the ninth most.

West led the Lakers to nine appearances in the NBA finals, capturing the title once, in 1972.

He spent nearly two decades in the Lakers front office, serving as general manager and helping assemble the famed "Showtime" teams that captured multiple NBA titles.

In recent years, West had become an outspoken advocate for mental health, openly speaking about his battles with depression that traced back to childhood.

86 is a helluva run for an athlete. Not too many guys can claim to be a hall-of-fame player, a hall-of-fame executive and a great person. RIP to the Logo.

R.I.P Zeke. See you guys next season this shit is over. As a Lakers fan I hate the Celtics. However, it feels good to have an American led team win. Fuck Luka and Jokic and Giannis , Embid etc..
No broken English press conference from an Ivan Drago lookalike this year.

Celtics are champions again. NBA gets it's "large market" team championship again that it's been craving for that sweet, sweet merch revenue.

Yeah, kind of a Mickey Mouse ring since they didn't play anyone worth a damn but it's not their fault every other major franchise player either got hurt or blew a 20 point lead at home in game 7.
