Any way to tone down PC noise?

Just built a new pc a few days ago and everything works fine.

The thing that annoys me the most is the noise coming out of the pc.

They are really loud. I guess the cpu fan is making all that noise and

the fan is huge.

Anyways I'm currently running iCore 7 960 and does anyone know what I can do to

reduce the noise coming out of the pc?

I'm afraid my ear will go bad in a few months if I use this pc.

Replace the cooler on the CPU with something not loud. Replace the case fans with ones that aren't loud also if you can.

I prefer Noctua stuff personally. They make some of the quietest fans around.

Bottom line, larger diameter fans turning slowly can move as much air as small ones that are higher RPM.

You can also check to see if there are switches or jumpers attached to the fans, some "gaming" fans have L M H settings, and they are usually set to H from factory. If you fans start out slow, then go into super high mode, there is a problem with heat displacement....

Look at getting a noise reducing case. There are lots of companies that sell them, and they have a lot of noise dampening built in.

The thing is I'm using stock cpu fan from Intel. The fan from the case does not make that much noise.

However, the power supply fan is huge and probably making a lot of noise also.

Is there anyone running iCore 7 and can tell me if their cpu fan is really noisy like my?

Just go on Newegg and buy the cheapest i7 heatsink and fan with the lowest Db you can find.

I heard playing your music loud usually drowns out the sound of the fan. I'd give that a try.

1. Swap out your stock case fans
2. Install Fan Controller

If that's still not quiet enough then get a sound dampening kit.

or spend 200-300$ for a good water cooling system. will be very quiet then.

I'm running an i7 with 6 case fans, and 3 video cards, and its almost silent, unless im running hardcore graphics..

I've spent at least $100 on new fans and heatsinks trying to quiet my PC, but it's still incredibly loud. I wish they made quiet cases that actually looked cool.

(no, this is not menat to be a "yay Apple!" comment fellas...)

I was shocked when I got my iMac...the second I powered down my tower and powered up the iMac...I was shocked at the lack of noise...I had never realized how fucking loud my tower was (and it was an Apple tower BTW)...the gaming rigs I used to build were ever worse...

To this day case noise bothers me...

I know this isn't helpful but I too was always bothered by them. I'm not sure I could go back...

Just replace the cpu cooler with one of a lower dB rating, as posted before. Stock CPU coolers are always noisy.

The other main noise makers are the vid cards, but just try replacing the cpu cooler first.

I guess I will just have to live with it for now.

I already spend too much money on the setup.

Water cooling system sounds like the way to go.

I will use earplug for now.

What kind of suggestions did you expect, something free?

You can have a quiet system without water cooling for sure.

If its that loud, something is definitely wrong....you should have no problems sitting in the same room as you PC....

You could go to the extreme and go fan-less.
It requires underclocking the CPU and carefully shopping for big-fin radiator-type heat sinks, and a fan-less powersupply.

It's not cheap, but 0dB can be done (and with the new solid-state harddrives it can be COMPLETELY silent... like ninja...).

It's easier now than its ever been to build a quiet PC. Hell, with SSDs, you can even eliminate hard drive noise without resorting to vibration dampening schemes. Check out this site: http://www.silentpcreview.com/

skip the Water cooling.

SSD as OS drive.

and high quality fans. I recommend SilenX. Night and day difference. For a few bucks your decibel rating will drop. Easy investment.

You will still need to dust your computer about once a month at least....

Just go to Newegg and get some fans, they are cheap.

before you buy anything you´d check the airflow of your case.

make sure the case fans are helping to cool down the CPU and PSU, cool air is flowing inside the case and hot air exhausted.
