If your thinking breathing on the cart will make it oxidize due to some miniscule amount of moisture from your breath, I really wouldnt worry about it.

I bet it would make you nervous to know I almost dropped my mint kof 2002 homecart on the floor yesterday? haha...dropped it, and just managed to recover before it hit the wood floor

Does anyone get abit anxious about them?

Myself, every aes game brought I check the inlays at the back to make sure theres no writing on them. The reason why I do this, there was some marks on one when I was changing cases.
Some of you may be thinking, who gives a fuck if you cant see it? But it matters to me.

I used to blow into carts when they dont work, I worry this will damage them in the future. Maybe not now, but will stop working over time.
I dont know if this is true

Marks on carts, I hate this the most, but cannot really be avoided
Fuck it : / just enjoy the game I suppose
Im extra careful when I insert them into the console anyways

Buying a new cart. I try to get far into the game as possible to make sure it works ok.
Reason, I was playing KOF 94 and half way through the screen all fucks up and looks like a pixalated mess.
It did it on several occasions, but then it stopped after a while

Leaving the room unintended on certain occasions

Sealed games, I brought alot ages ago for cheap, some dont rattle? and feel lighter
Makes me wonder

I guess some may think im weird but im sure theres other people out there :spock:

Side note:

And what pisses me of on ebay is when sellers state that the game is excellent condition overall! yet i recieve it with a loose, broken tray (which could be due to post) worn insert, worn manual.
I sold alot of my mint carts a while back (BIG MISTAKE) and have been re-buying them for abit more.
Most of them have broken trays and are not mint as I had them, oh well life hay.

Seriously - MVS.

Why even bother with those games?

hahahaha ... well maybe if you rinse with some mouthwash first the menthol will do the cart right.

Did you develop that in your NES days?

Dunno, never owned a NES, must be a snes thing.

you know, back in the 2000´s even Shawn was selling SNK seal stickers.

and they are easily reproduced btw.

same goes for shrink wrapping, if you want, it can be done.

I agree, get a CMVS or Supergun/MVS mobo. I have neven been that paranoid about homecarts, but then maybe it's because I am very laid back.

No regrets - you'll miss your homecarts, but its not like you won't get over them.

I have a stout MVS collection with the best games on the Neo.

Not as pretty to look at - but they contain the same game in those chips :)

I miss home carts because I'm an obsessive fuck who loves the matching spines on the shelf :)

But as Mike said, can't beat having thousands of extra dollars in your pocket. If you're a millionaire, sure, spend the money. But even if you're well off, the extra money can always be put to better use on vacations, assistance to people in need of help, and other things. MVS is just as good and simply unbeatable in an arcade cabinet.

Sincerely,

Mikhail

When I decided to buy a Neo it had to be homecarts. At the time I wouldn't have been satisfied with MVS. I wanted the console I had lusted after since I was a child and I wanted to know the satisfaction of buying new carts while it was still supported.

Honestly though, I was really anal about letting others handle those games. I just didn't feel like they understood how expensive or important to me they were. It actually kind of sucked in a way because the best way to enjoy the Neo is with friends. Now all my homecarts sit on a shelf where no one can touch them.

However, now I also have a nice stack of MVS carts sitting out in the open for everyone to enjoy and I couldn't care less who handles them. It's a great feeling. Not only that but it turns out that MVS carts have that same great "SNK feel" that the homecarts do anyways.

Kind of makes me feel like the Neo version of a hermaphrodite - I have both and I love it!

Why are you guys recommending this poor fellow MVS as if it's going to solve all his problems? MVS carts might be big, ugly, and never intended to have human eyes laid upon them but that doesn't mean they should be treated any differently.

Keep Clear all I can say is you simply need to get over your anxiety. You should treat ALL your material possessions well, it doesn't matter if it's a $100 AES game or a $3 book. That is just common sense. You obviously already know what is OCD and what isn't.

You mind tells your OCD is humorous in a way, and that is how it controls you. You must control your mind. You have the power, and only you can let go.

exactly. i am a perfect example of what happens when an obsessive fuck tries to quit AES cold turkey and go the MVS route; i negate the advantage of cheap carts with a self imposed "full kits only" rule.

eh, it's hard to find stuff, so there's an assigned value given to it by yourself.
I wouldn't call it anxiety.
Whenever I buy cds I always check the disc.
even if it's new.
I think that's a little ocd.

I guess there just games at the end of the day. The OCD can get out of hand sometimes, I dont think im the only one.
I care for all the games I own, I would not say thats a bad thing. There is alot of passion for collecting. I enjoy collecting the AES titles
Im not extreme wealthy to replace certain rare games that I would like to buy in the future, straight away. Some AES titles are so hard to come-by
I have my whole life ahead of me anyhow, but I can see most becoming more rare as years go by.
Im talking about, say if the game stopped working completely. Hopefully it will not come to that
I dont see how some AES titles get in such a terrible state, like the rares.
Inlay getting ripped in half, pissed of girlfreind?
I dont think I will ever give up my collection unless I went into problems in the future, but I will be selling certain carts now and then.

- Blowing into carts/any electrical device

This is not recommended due to the moisture in your breath but it also won't kill your carts or systems if you don't do it on a daily basis. Gently blowing away a bit of dust (I guess there's no dust on your stuff anyway, eh ;) ) every now and then won't do no harm. If you want to be on the safe side, buy one of those pressurized air cans they sell at DIY stores and use it to blow away the dust. These cans also work wonders on dirty PCs... :)

- Checking inserts/backs/carts/etc. before purchase

That's not OCD but good practice because these things cost lots of money. Personally I wouldn't care about some writings on them unless we're not talking about a high-priced item or NGF rubber stamps. NGF rubber stamp on a cart = cart's worthless.

- Insertion marks

Difficult to avoid. Some people have suggested removing the top cover of the system when inserting a game. Never tried it myself, though. I'm not too worried about insertion marks because I'm not planning to sell any part of my Neo stuff anytime soon.

Avoid tilting the carts when inserting or removing them and you should be fine.

Btw., deep insertion marks can be removed with a combination of ultra fine-grade sandpaper, special plastic polish lotion and soft lint-free cloth.

- Checking a game before buying

If you can, do it, though most people buy their stuff online which makes it impossible. Don't sweat it, homecarts are very sturdy and contain quality parts, haven't seen a lot of glitchy games yet (even though I own one (NGC 98)). The KoF94 that had the pixelation problem may have had dirty contacts, repeated inserting and removing of the cart usually helps to get rid of that.

When I get a new cart, the first thing I do is to clean its contacts with a q-tip soaked in pure alcohol (the medical stuff you can buy at the chemist, not Vodka or anything), it's amazing how much dirt comes off of even cleanly looking contacts.

.

Anyway, keep cool and just enjoy your stuff, SNK hardware and carts were built to last (almost) forever.

I used to be anal about my carts but I've come to the conclusion that I'll probably never sell them. I take good care of them, but I'm not going to die if they get a nick here or there. No resale value to worry about.

MVS switcheroo, best move I ever made...'nuff said.

PS: Obssessive anal retentive douchness does not belong with arcade hardware, so perhaps you should keep loosing sleep over your home carts and stay away from MVS.

Sorry if this bothers anyone
if everyone didnt care about hardware there would be a problems.
