Alright, same here, I bought MotW on DC, simply, because I can't afford to buy the AES. Yet.

And I bought Slug 1 on Neo CD and X on PSX because I can't afford to buy these two on home cart, X perhaps, but sure as hell no original Slug 1. And I don't like conversions, so...

Not to mention FF, FF2, FFS, AoF and WH I bought for the Genesis/Mega CD many years ago. Because I wanted to play them, original or not.

I don't say that one would need an AES to be a "real" Neo fan, far from it. The more ports, the better.

I just say that ports are MY second choice, if I had the chance, I would buy the AES cart in a heartbeat.

But that's not the point - thing is that the AES is not only the anal baggie collector's toy. The percentage of AES collectors is high, but damn, I'm a gamer for LIFE, I never spent a single thought on collecting video games, but I own an AES. I like the fact that there are still games coming out for it, and I fukn want that to continue.

If there are ppl here who treat their big AES collections as their own personal penis extensions, it's a sorry thing to see, but even that does not justify to throw all the AES owners into one pot with the label "stinky, greedy AES collectors who suck at almost any type of game" on it.

I just wanna say that I am glad these games are being released on the PS2 and DC and that I hope that Playmore can get a U.S. publisher for at least the PS2 games. I'm pretty sure once I get my Candy I will be like fuck ports to but right now I could care less.

I'm not saying they are stinky, but greedy is definitely.

If you want to sell your shit, sell it. What's the point of asking "make me an offer shit"?

Oh I'd LOVE to own an AES cart of all the games I wanted. However the prices are still astronomically high. I own MVS games, but the new games are still way too expensive. Personally I don't want to see 2D gaming die off, far from it. I want to see "Neo Geo" games made for other systems. I don't want the Neo Geo to be thought of as hardware anymore, I want it to be a brand name.

The hardware can not give us the upgrades that we deserve for our favorite series. NAOMI, PS2, and XBox can. Period. Fran himself even said that the reason KOF2k1 has horrible animation is because it has way too many characters. If the game was developed on NAOMI then it would have the same amount of characters, all new sprites, and would be fully animated.

Now not for once, NOT ONCE, did I call the AES carts inferior. EVER. I started ranting about how Fran liked to think that the ports would never sell on PS2 or DC. Then it was the AES collectors/fanboy's/whatever who went off about how the ports would never be as good as the original.

People on here dis KOF2k1 all the time, saying it's a dissapointment or whatever. Yet they still shelled out $300! I can't even believe it. I mean personally when SNK vs. Capcom comes out on MVS (if it ever does), yes I will spend up to $300 on it. No questions about it, because I know I will love that game to death, unless I read they fucked it up beyond repair.

But to insinuate that the ports will be shit, or won't sell is just being annoying and bitter. Because the damn honest truth is that SNK/Playmore will make more money from the port sales than they did with the MVS/AES release.

PERIOD.

And yet some fanboy's around here just won't want to admit to it!

Of course it always takes two "dumbasses", one who asks for big $$$, and one who pays them.

Stupid or not, I doubt that this will ever end as long as there are at least two ppl willing to pump some serious cash into rare video games.

But I don't blame the AES for this, because I love it, because all my fav games are on this machine.

For example, I paid $300 for KoF2k1. So far, so good. But you know what, I play it ever since I got it, and it still kicks ass. If I would have put the same amount of play time I had so far into a cab, I'd guess I would have shelled out a lot more cash.

And believe me, I would have done it if I had a good arcade 'round here with 2k1 in it. I did the same with Wonder Boy, years ago... I could have bought a nice bike for the bucks which went into it...

So these $300 have turned into months of gaming fun, what more could one ask for.

It's a difference of perspective.
I've been buying neo games for 12+years.
200-300 Bucks, is a standard price for a game to me.
Does that mean I like paying more? Hell no.

I just have been conditioned, that is what it costs.

To all you cats who started buying carts in the last couple years, you see it as high.

When I look at a PS2 game for 50, I see it as cheap & a hellva good deal.
That's how I see it anyway.

$300 once or twice a year isn't that big of an expense.
Any of ya'll who bought a PS2, DC,S aturn, N64, SNES, PCFX, SuperGrafx, etc etc could have spent that money on Neo if you had chosen too.

I can honestly say that I also don't understand why ppl buy games just for the sake of owning them, or to complete a series. My heart also aches if I have to see some yummie games wrapped in three layers of protective bags and placed behind sun-blocking glass, locked away forever.

Games, aside from keeping them in good shape to enjoy them as long as possible, are meant to be played, not to be put in baggies and stared at. No doubt about that.

Of course, nobody really knows about the quality of the new ports until they're out. A mediocre version, however, would not stop the games from getting sold either.

But, without any personal reference, I still think that the AES bashing in here and in other threads isn't something I would expect from a Neo Geo bbs, don't you think.

what i'm trying to say is that the hardware that makes up the neo geo is old, outdadted, and easily surpassed.

does that make the games any worse? no.

i'm just saying that a perfect port of any neogeo game is entirely possible. just because it hasnt happened, doesnt mean it cant.

Listen to me guys. It's like I said I'm not bashing people who buy AES carts. I'm a capitalist, your money, do as you wish. BUT, don't diss the ports. At least the new ones. Yeah I've played KOF99 on PSX, it sucks. But the MOTW port and LB2 are spot on with the DC.

I can personally vouch for them. I own both MVS carts. You can't notice the difference unless you're trying to nit pick. I mean today I was talking to a new guy from the boards on AIM and he was asking me about ports and stuff. And basically it came down to, will I be missing anything by having the DC version over the AES/MVS? I told him you'd miss the cart and the big case. Is that worth $500? I told him to look at the games on EMU on a TV. That's what he'd be missing. And he agreed with me. If you didn't have a Neo and wanted these games, then getting the port is a great way to own the game.

I do understand the Neo Geo. I've stated my opinions about it all, with wanting new Neo games based on new hardware.

And Fran, when I talk about GGX I'm not talking about gameplay. KOF is miles ahead of it as far as technical gameplay is concerned. I mean I don't play GGX every night like I do KOF98 or MOTW. But GGX rips it a new one in graphical abilities. Not cause it's high res (although that does help). CvS2 runs at low res, and although it doesn't look as nice as GGX it still looks better than KOF does.

I'm saying that GGX is the graphical standard by which new 2D games should be judged. There is no denying the fact. Sure some people prefer the "old school" look of Neo games, but they can not deny the beauty of the Sprites in GGX.

All I'm saying is that it's time to put the MVS hardware to rest. It's been a great work horse and I still love the games on it. I mean I wouldn't sell my MVS collection, not because I couldn't get the games elsewhere, but they have collective value to me. But the new games released so far are real crap IMHO. I want to try ROTD but I don't know if it'll be good. And I think that for SNK to survive this time around, they're going to have to go the capcom route and publish on new systems.
