I think she looks good, but I did also do a double take at the face. I do like the extra injection of personality we see in both Terry and Mai in SF6, though.

Agreed, the English voice is cringe, but I'm sure the Japanese voice will sound fine. Probably the same voice actor used in COTW. I think Terry is the same?

They wisely chose the correct outfit.
That voice...

Yeah some fan comments are saying the english sounds off, but the Japanese version sounds just fine:

If this cinematic trailer is to be believed - Mai FINALLY has her "dragon punch" fire kick back! That's been missing since KOF 98. I always disliked her moveset redesign from KOF 99 to present day. She hasn't had that or her fire dance special for decades which left her with few good anti-air options in more modern games.

Damnit. Now I'm gonna have to play some SF6 for the first time since a few weeks after it released. Not looking forward to the 100 gb update they're sure to nail me with.

Is it just me or are we inching towards a CvS3 with SNK characters in SF...

I think the era of full crossover games has run its course. I doubt we'll see a full CvS or SvC in the future, but I'd put money on seeing more SF characters in COTW - etc.

Seasons, DLC characters and Guest Characters have become popular in just about all modern fighting games. Since there isn't really a "rivalry" these days between Capcom, SNK, others, each individual company can promote their game inside of another publisher's game and both reap the benefits. Street Fighter 6 gets some new life, characters, stages, and renewed interest while SNK feeds into that to build hype for COTW.

I think a CvS3 or whatever would sell, but there is only so much space for new fighting games these days. (or maybe I'm just salty there will never be a new Darkstalkers game 🤷‍♂️)

I blame KoF. Just take every franchise and throw the characters in a blender. It just took Capcom a while to catch up.

I went to try and play last night and there was a fifty+GB update.
By the time it was done I didn't want to play anymore.

Ken and Chun-Li are already confirmed as DLC guests in COTW.

I disagree. In fact, I'd say CvS 3 is inevitable by this point. It's arguably the most wanted fighting game by the community and has been for years. Both sides want to do it, they've been teasing it since Evo 2022, and this is the last step of them "testing the waters" before diving in head first.

In fact, I bet you $10 it's already in development right now and will be announced sometime later next year, most likely at the next Evo.

Question is, how are they going about it? Co-development between the two for one shared release? Both sides making their own like before? I'd be more inclined to think the former, not the latter.

Is CvS3/SvC2 does happen I hope it's co-developed this time around and not just a licensing agreement.

I can't even remember if I played Street Fighter 6. I know I didn't like 5. Meh, whatever.

There is no way I see that happening.

Capcom has no reason to work on a developmental project jointly with SNK other than to give the audience good vibes.

And they don't have to. Capcom holds literally every good card in their hand in this particular game.

Bandai Namco would have far greater influence on the matter. But SNK is still a small potatoes company and Capcom loses almost nothing if they don't move forward with a third game in the series.

I'd like to see it, of course.

The best you can hope for is for each of the companies to release their own crossover fighting games, like they did before.

Capcom doesn't hold the leverage they did before when SNK was a sinking ship on the cusp of bankruptcy. SNK is very much on the rise right now and the hype train for Fatal Fury is probably the biggest they've had for a game since...ever? Thus, they have a much stronger position at the bargaining table.

It's also clear that the mutual respect and love the companies have for each other is much deeper than it was back in 2000/2001. There's no way they could have done what they did with Terry in SF6 without some hefty collaboration from SNK.

So while there's no guarantee that what will/is happening, co-developing the game with SNK makes an incredible amount of sense IMO.

I don't agree with any of this except the boldfaced.

It's nice to see major companies putting respect on Terry's name. It's long overdue as far as I'm concerned and we all know SNK was always Terry's company to head. He is unquestionably that company's most beloved character and its most popular. Anybody that says otherwise is Saner or ilovejapangirls.

I agree that Capcom's current devs probably love classic SNK. I mean...I bet even 2000 era Capcom loved SNK but corporate competition was a much different beast back then and the devs probably had to toe a different line.

But I don't see SNK 'on the rise' at all right now. We are experiencing a little bit of a nostalgia bump right now, which was bound to happen eventually. Everything gets rereleased.

Thank Nintendo and Sakurai for that. If Terry hadn't made it into Smash purely on Sakurai's love for classic SNK and his power as a game director within that company, Terry might still be languishing in the pachinko parlors and on retro releases. Terry appearing in Smash has woken up a subset of fans to the majesty of the past but even with SNK returning to EVO, I don't see a 'rise' anywhere. They're going to need a big breakout hit that has everyone talking in order for them to be truly 'rising'. Their games don't even get the hype of a Guilty Gear release.

I'm just reminded of how awesome they had Terry looking and how bland he ended up being.

I think the problem with Terry in SF 6 is that he's not integrated into the game as a whole. He is an add on, all of his content is added on, which we know. It's that it 'feels' that way. He's not essential to the experience of the game so everything about him feels disposable there. Say what you want about Smash, but Terry feels like a part of that roster. He integrates very well with that experience. Not so much in SF 6. His moveset, style...everything just feels slapped onto the core game very poorly.

They're definitely on the rise and have been since KOF 14, with each "big" title selling more than the last (excluding the SNK Heroines), and it's more than just nostalgia.

Remember that they were basically scraping the bottom of the barrel as a company before KOF 14 came out, and when it did, it sold relatively well for an SNK release. Then Sam Sho came out and sold more than any game they'd ever released, and KOF 15 did the same when that came out. I'd be utterly shocked if FF:COTW didn't blow those sales numbers out of the water come April.

With FF: COTW on the horizon, their marketing is much greater with it getting more much mainstream press coverage and website ads, the big crossover with Street Fighter 6, whatever the heck they're doing with Cristiano Ronaldo who is a major soccer superstar, and overall general hype from the fighting game community is the biggest it's been for an SNK game that I can remember. Let's also not forget the massive amount of Saudi blood money being invested in them as well.

That said, I'm not saying that they're a huge mainstream company now. They're still fairly niche, and have a long way to go to get there (if they ever even do).
