Since we played ZG2 last year, I'm calling Chaos Field the SOTM. Feel free to submit scores for Zero Gunner 2 as well, since that won the vote.

1 credit / Arcade defaults, "normal difficulty"; if there are issues with any Chaos Field ports then we'll try to keep this NAOMI/DC. I don't think there's any issue allowing the other console ports, someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

Please try to format your scores appropriately.

HIGH SCORES:

CHAOS FIELD:

1. Kidpanda - 15,454,410 - Ifumi - 2 - 1434 - Naomi

I like Chaos Field, if for no other reason it's a well made game that isn't in the traditional mode we're used. I am quite terrible at it - but I hope to give it a couple runs.

Zero Gunner 2 I adore and did not get much time with it last year, so will probably focus on that personally.

Nice! Never played Chaos Field before so this should be interesting. I've had it for my Naomi CF setup for a while but never bothered to try it out. Looking forward to it.

I had really over-looked Chaos Field. When I first played it I was sill discovering a lot of shmups and kind of passed it over. After a few credits I can say it actually seems pretty fun. If you're playing on NAOMI be sure to try your A+B buttons and B+C button combos to figure out all the mechanics. There's a good basics guide here, I recommend playing a credit or two before reading it: http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.php?t=2976

Thanks for the link. I just read through that thread and wow, there's certainly a lot to get accustomed to with this one. Definitely not your typical shmup. I'll give it a go tonight just to post a baseline score up there. It promises to be quite shitty but you have to start somewhere.

Ok getting started.

So yeah, that stage 2. Screen rotating all around, boss bits spinning all over the place, and I'm blocking bullets with a laser sword thing. It's Radiant Silvergun. :)

Apparently you get get 25+ million on stage on if you chain well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z5jEHlPRtZ8
Ffffffuuuuuu for the first stage this game has some crazy shit you can do.

Here's where I'm at after a few days of pumping credits into this.

skate323k137 - 5,675,660 - HAL - 2 - 415 - NAOMI

There's a saying in my house about Japanese games; level 3 is where shit gets real. This game fits that saying... I saw phase 3 once for about 15 seconds before I was toast.

I'm still really enjoying this game and I can't wait to get in some more runs. I'm not sure how much I'll improve without some serious breakthroughs, but it's still really fun.

Okay, I'm finally getting a little bit used to this game and it's scoring system. I still have so much more room for improvement though on just the first level.

Not bad at all.

The hardest part on the 1st level for me is finishing destruction of each boss while a combo is going. It really sucks to lose that 500+ combo right before you blow up the boss and then lose the multiplier for it.

I managed to get a few minutes last night to put a couple of runs in. I understand almost nothing about what's going on but it's definitely fun. I imagine when you know what you are doing it makes the experience that much better. Looking forward to that.

How are you guys getting those combos?

The combo meter is similar to mars matrix where it builds up and then diminishes unless you get more chains.

2 things keep your combo going: absorbing bullets with the A+B weapon ("Wing layer") and locking on to targets/bullets with the B+C weapon ("Lock-On")

It helps to park a wing layer in front of the enimies main weapon, it'll keep absorbing bullets to keep your combo going a bit. I tend to go back and forth between doing that and using the lock-on to take out extra boss parts (and tons of bullets, since you can Lock-On to bullets if you're in the Chaos Field instead of Order Field).

I never went into Chaos Field, stayed in Order the whole time. Cool game glad I got to play this one as I never got a copy for anything.

Haven't quite caught up to Kid Panda, but I've been making a few improvements. Got to phase 3 again at least.

Best I got this month:

skate323k137 - 8,875,240 - HAL - 3 - 389 - NAOMI

This ended up being a fun game and I'm glad to have picked it up. I hope you guys enjoyed it too. I know the next breakthrough for scoring for me would be to keep my chain going between enemies, but I just couldn't get that going. I'm sure I'll come back and play this again.

CONGRATS on the win Kidpanda

Gratz Kinpanda! My best was only around 6.5 million. It's pretty impressive how much more you can get by keeping the combo going.
