But I thought both the PCE and Genesis versions were different from the arcade. For instance and auto-fire, full-screen bombs on the console ports (someone correct me if I'm wrong, it's been a while since I played this title). The music is also quite different in the ports, but that doesn't really matter for gameplay.

Wish I had the arcade PCB as well as the PC Engine versions, but alas... I'll be just posting the Genesis version - playing the "Arcade Colours" romhack by Fusaru via Everdrive.

Not sure how much I will be bale to play as I'm a new first-time father as of about 30 days ago.

My daughter is 2 now, and the first year was a lot better than the second. Once your child becomes a toddler, life gets a lot harder.

Also, I think we should separate the arcade PCB scores from the Genesis/MD and PC Engine scores. The games are not the same so, scores are not comparable.

Please explain. I guess that because baby can now walk and get into trouble you need to hover a bit more? What about your sleep? Does she sleep through the night?

In the first year, they’re like robots. Very routine, and very easy to figure out the solution to why they’re crying.
Once babies start developing their personality, after year 1, they get harder to figure out what’s wrong. By the time they start walking, it’s more about worrying they’ll get hurt. So you gotta proof your home to be safe (no more pcb’s laying around on the carpet! ) kids are wreckless, they’ll run into table corners, coffee tables, etc. Yeah, electrical outlets should be plugged, but imo the bigger danger in your home is sharp hard furniture surfaces because they have a higher likelihood of getting injured by bumping into those than playing with outlets.

Re: sleep
For the first month, sleep was hard. Having to wake up every 2 hours for feeding. But after the first month we let our daughter sleep through and wake up on her our when she was hungry. The first time we tried that she slept 8 hours!! It was amazing. Ever since then she sleeps a full night. We got lucky.

Oberservations of the noob (Pros please feel free to comment):
*) Arcade seems to be harder than MD/Genesis (played the original at miisalos)
*) The music on the Genesis is worse (still not that bad, but a bit from a cry from the original as far as I remember, don't have an original though)
*) The max speed is pretty harsh to get used to - but you want to max because of the extra 5K for each powerup after maxing
*) As soon as you loose a ship you can practically start over - it seems to me levels are not that hard with enough powerups, and extremely hard when loosing a ship and having to continue
*) Homing lightning seems absolutely worthless on level 1 (no power ups) and should be avoided

In general it seems you have to bring quite some time when playing, the levels are rather long.
