I'm missing around 17 games for the full set. It's sort of like this big project I've been working on my entire adult life. Many of my games I've had since the late 90s. Most of them have a story behind them and I feel very fortunate to have what I have, and as many have mentioned, to have the discipline not to dump it all over god knows how many moves over the years, having kids, not having a job, etc.

I just got back from my first trip to Japan last week. While I was there I picked up Quiz Daisousasen and a pretty cheap copy of Baka Mahjong. Those are 2 games I'll really never play but it was super exciting to add them to the collection. And I'll never forget where they came from.

I got my 1st Neo Geo Gold system for my birthday back in 1991. I was just a kid back then & rarely got a game because of the pricing. I ended up trading it with a friend about 4 - 5 years later. In the early 00's when the arcades started going out of business, I was able to pickup a living room full of arcade machines for around $150 - $250/each. 2 of them were Neo Geo "big red" cabs w/ various games. I ended up moving in 2008 and had to get rid of all my arcade machines. Since then I just picked up some Neo ports here & there for various other consoles.

It wasn't until after the whole covid thing hit that I got the itch for wanting an AES console again. I ended up finding a complete/boxed US Neo Geo Gold system again and have been gradually picking up games & there. This time I am going to keep it!

I'll bet most people who got a Neo Geo new in the 90's never owned very many games. The narrative we've been told is all lies.

I had a couple of the cheapo /common games but never anything like slugs. Sam showdown 1 and 2, world heroes. Where I lived you never saw it.

So far I've got 42 AES games and about 39 MVS games, I love the aesthetic of the home console but rarely buy games for it. I have a bunch of the common ones and some mid level hitters like Last Blade 2, MOTW, and the ilk but nothing as big tymer as a Slug or late fighter.

I always keep an eye out, I would justify one big AES purchase a year as I'm into the idea of buying games I'd enjoy instead of what's cheap and available.

I don't even have a Neo hooked up at the moment. Nor do I have anything on my shelves.
But my closet has a banging NHG collection right now.
