I for one never had a problem with his transition to daytime tv either. Thought he's has always been an all round top bloke. Takes a lot to be entertaining stood next to Clarkson.

Get well soon Hamster!

Erm.... No.

Dude has his own show on another channel, Is it just me ? some of his sound bites about this are just... Sigh !

Maybe just media fuel and out of context.

hahaha that's a good one. he has his show fifth gear which is a much better show than top gear in my opinion. top gear is too much goofiness and wackiness. fifth gear is much more technical and focused more on the mechanics of things

Fifth Gear is a more serious show but it just feels stiff and forced with it's 'Look we're in an office talking to you and we have people working in the background as we are speaking' thing going off.

Jason Plato and VBH know what they are talking about but that dickhead with the beard knows sod-all about what he is talking about and the once popular Tiff has just turned into a parody caricature.

All Tiffs parts in FG are just some wank-fest to see him sliding a high powered car and that gets very old very quickly, esp as you don't see him driving anything more mundane and giving a proper review.

I wanted to like FG but TG is the much more interesting and entertaining programme. You get to see the cars and have a laugh and no-one else has.....THE STIG!

yes but tiff and jason are both better drivers than anyone on top gear. tiff was in something like 17 lemans and jason was a touring car champion driver. now granted tom is a bit of a dumbass put him in a luxury car and suddenly he's good. he knows his way around bently, mercedes, BMW, audi, and other top of the line makes. and then john bently is the crash test and safety guy. which is something top gear lacks. they don't show safety ratings, they don't crash cars to see what is safest. and vicki well she's just a gimmick. i can take or leave her.

you have to remember that tiff is the main man of the show. and being that guy means he is yes often in high end sports cars drifting. but he also goes to actual races, competes, sees how things are on the circuit. from the 24 hour race they did a couple seasons ago, to the drifting grand prix he did this past season. he's the one who enters into races and gives audiences a view at what it's like to be in the garage, in the pit, on the track, and trying his hardest to keep at it no matter what the conditions. tiff is the race driver, pure and simple.

top gear to me seems like that kid in school who just tried so hard to be a badass. it's not as technical, it's not as mechanical, it's just jokes and the stig. no crash tests, no car giveaways, no serious reviews. they might review an alfa or citroen here and there but all they do is make fun of the alfa until jeremy claims he'd buy one. or call the citroen garbage and go onto a segment about driving a ford transit. it's entertaining yeah but it's not as educated as i'd like a show about cars to be. which is why i'm one of the few fifth gear loyal fans.

I hope he makes a full recovery, but most reports I've heard make that sound unlikely. He is one of the best television presenters on UK television, and anyone who can stand next to Clarkson and still make a program entertaining is worth his weight in my book...

I don't see why everyone has sympathy for him.

If you drive at 300mph then you run the risk of something like that happening.

It's his own fault, so he gets no sympathy from me.

Play with fire and you'll eventually get burned.

They had a write up of the Donut world record in Redline.... and took the piss out of him.

On topic - I hope he's ok.

While there's part of me that agrees, and a similar line of thought also fits Steve Irwin I guess, these blokes were good people, entertaining and educating millions. It would be a shame if people following that logic stopped making risky tv shows...

True - but if he does survive, all accounts are warning of "serious brain injury" - in the worst cases that can be worse than death from my experience. The fact that he is displaying concious thought, recognising people and smiling at jokes is a very good sign though :)

As an alternative to FG there is also PP(Pulling Power) with Mike Rutherford as the main presenter and some london geezer who is a bit of an Arthur Daley and goes through all the insa dn outs of buying second hand motors.

PP is more like how TG used to be years ago, with a lot of good impartial info about the cars, realistic roadtests and it wasn't all Clarkson going on about his loathing of medium priced japanese family cars.

As an aside, apparently Hamster is out of ICU and has been downgraded (again) from 'Serious but Stable' down to just 'Stable'. And apparently his co presenter James May has even had a short conversation with him.

p.s.
Q. What have the Hamster and Elton John got in common?
A.They both have skidmarks on their helmets.

Heard about this via BBC podcast today. I did a double take when they reported 300mph but I guess that's the case. I figured it was supposed to be in kilos when I heard it.

It was an accident you retard.

People tend to have sympathy for others when they are in pain, have accidents, etc.

Also, he didn't hurt anyone else, I don't see a single reason to be mad at him or apathetic on the event.
