I'm all for conversations about simplifying the tax code, wasteful government spending, who should be paying how much and for what.

Pretending that government shouldn't be responsible for upholding basic core functions of a society (and that it needs to be funded to do so) is libertarian Candy Land bullshit. It's like dipshits that think communism hasn't worked because it just hasn't been done correctly yet. It's philosophical wankery that can be summarily ignored in any serious conversation.
