Just want to see how many people here would actually buy a NGPC front light kit. I am pretty close to getting all the parts but before I invest into it I need to know.

The kit will work on both Regular and Slimline NGPC, for NGP I am sure it will work but I dont have one so I cant confirm.

The kit would include everything you need to install a front light as well as your choice of color for a power LED. (Green, White, Cyan, Purple)

To clarify, you do not need to sacrifice an SP like before, this kit will provide what was needed from the SP previously in the kit.

I'm projecting the kit to be around $25 shipped and will include full color step by step instructions. Discounts available for multiple purchase.

If I get enough support I will go through with the development.

It is imperative that you vote if you want it to happen.

I need to know at least 50 people would buy it before I move forward.

Thanks
XX

The kit would work on both. And I have done a slimline.

If you don't make the kit, then my NGPC will be coming your way some time soon, so yes I would like to buy one, and I voted.

$25 shipped (or not shipped even) is a damn good price dammit.

Xian...go for it...speaking about NGPC, I need help from members here. Well college tuition is up and I'm thinking should I sell my whole UK set and pay for the college bill and hopefully have some change left over, (The bill is a little over 1k) or should I sell one of my more expensive carts like Last Blade 2, Ninja Masters, RBFF2 and keep my UK set.

Pretty sure id take one or two kits off you. It's pretty important that you provide detailed instructions for people like me who are rubbish with electronics! I'm in the UK - any problems shipping here?

I would ship worldwide of course.

I will give this 1 week to see if I get 50 people saying yes they would, anything less would not be worth my time as I have other projects that I am working on, too. I also see someone voted no.

I'd probably buy a second as well, but that doesn't really help much.

Somehow, I don't think it's possible to get 50 votes, not with this just being posted in the Handheld forum... I doubt that there're even 50 unique users, or posts for that matter, weekly in here.

I'll be brutally honest here...

I loved the work you did - I saw those photos of the mod slimline and was very impressed.

But my money is limited, and when things all settle out, my handheld cash goes to DS, and in very rare circumstances PSP. So the chances of me spending money on NGPC these days are just very slim. Even though I still think NGPC has some of THE best handheld games ever made, even compared to DS and PSP. (NGPC certainly has the best handheld joystick ever, even if the audio-visuals are very dated now)

Having said that, if I did decide to get the light mod - I wouldn't trust myself to do it. I'd rather pay a bit extra and have someone with expertise do it right the first time. Only other problem there is I'm shaky on the idea of having my beloved transparent slimline tampered with in any way. Part of me likes keeping it as it was originally designed. Part of me fantasizes about being able to see the screen easier - then I'd probably actually play the thing more often. :loco:

I know what you mean, but I will of course offer installation as well.

I would probabyl pay twice that for one, but I really don't think you are going to get 50 people to commit in the next week. If you got 50 of them though I am sure they would sell eventually, but it might take 6 months.

Any pics of a modded one? These do look completely normal when off correct? If so, you can put me down for one!

Do you have photos of an example mod you've done? I'd be very interested in buying a kit if it actually works to fully illuminate the screen. The main reason I don't play this great system is because it's not backlit/frontlit.

Hey Xian, would doing this myself require any gluing or anything messy? A friend backlighted my first GBA and he tried to glue the screen back on and it never really stayed on after that.

The pics you posted in another thread of this mod look great, but I know nothing about hardware mods and might be hesitant about doing it myself.

This kit would most likely be a peel and stick affair but would require some very light soldering/desoldering.

I would definitely buy at least two (possibly more depending on timing for cash).

I'd buy two (and probably pick up another NGPC incase I screw up xD). If you decide to go through with it, I'll gladly paypal you the money in a second. I have at least 12 games for my NGPC and haven't really touched any of them (aside from Metal Slug 1 & 2 and Dark Arms) due to the lack of a back/front light.

Hey, XX - would it be possible to adapt the kit for a WonderSwan Color or SwanCrystal?(dunno which would be easier, the Crystal is smaller but it's TFT which might be easier to work with than FSTN).

I'd like me some portable Gunpey (and the GB version is meretricious) but not if it ain't lit. I can't do that anymore.

You probably could but there might be some hacking involved as far as powering the light itself and fitting the screen properly as I dont know how much space the WS has inside between the LCD and the plastic screen.

I was as much worried about the fact that the Swans have a larger diagonal screen size, too.

Can you give out any more info about what's in the kit at this point, how the light is directed to the screen, what voltage is needed?
