Ok gang,
Samhain & I have put our heads together,
and we think we've got a good idea.
Weve made this:
NeoGeo Auction Watch

Were gonna track & average the ending values of succesfully completed auctions.

This will not in anyway reflect our opinions, or anyone else's.

Just the facts.
If it's low, it's low. If it's high, it's high.

This is nothing but a tracking system.
So anytime one of ya'll completes an online auction.
Email us here:
venomauctionwatch@hotmail.com

Were just trying this approach, in an attempt to be benefical to the online
neo scene as a whole.
Any help is appreciated.

I'll volunteer my services, Nick. I could help by reporting the prices when they change

Thanks man.
The only problem is, bad auctions.
Ie, auctions that people bid on, but do not pay.
Or pay & get ripped off.

So what we need, is the link to a completed auction.
& the word form the bidder & the seller that all was finished well.

So you can help by tracking auctions that finish.
Then watching for the positive or neg Feedback.

That would be awesome.
The tuff part is, sometimes it takes along time after the auctions end, for it to be really done.
It's gonna take time, so any that your willing to devote, will help alot.

It's a great idea, but still won't be an accurate meter of real prices.

Rare games ushually go WAAAAAAAAAAY over priced on ebay, cause in a frenzy everyone that wants it gets into a giant bid war, uncommon and common games ushually go dirt cheap, much cheaper than the prices in the price guide here.

It'll be hard to confirm every auction you see though, lot's of bad bidders!!

What do you mean it won't be accurate for REAL prices? Who are you to determine what a REAL price is? What reality do you believe you live in? If it's a documented completed transaction, it's certainly real.

Theres ebay prices, and then theres everything else. Don't be naive man, stuff on eBay goes WAY over priced over how much you can buy it in the real world.

Lot's of kids, and other people buy on ebay, cause they don't know any other place to find import games ect.

Dragonball Shinbutoden is an example, it goes 100+ on ebay! My copy used was 30 from a game store in China Town. That shit GT fighter on PSX goes for 400+, someone found a sealed copy at a store for 20 bucks.

eBay prices do not reflect the real world, what's the real world? Everywhere else but eBay land, if you can't understand that, then I don't know what to say.

eBay is like a bubble to an alternate dimension, where the mass deprived and uninformed waste all their money trying to win rare games, of which 95% are not rare, if they were rare, they sure as hell wouldn't be on eBay.

Certainly agreeable that the internet is not "real", but the transactions are.

With that same logic, I could say that the 20$ someone spent on a game in china is not real, because I saw the game sell for 100$.

Not really, as we will wait for dual positive feedbacks to be given, before posting a change.

So what? There are highs, & there are lows.
Ive seen stuff sell on ebay cheap.
We will also be tracking Yahoo, which typiclly runs way cheaper.

Once again, its not opinions, it's just the facts.
Its meant as a sampleing. This isnt for you to say look at what this will sell for.
This is not a guide riff with personal opinions.

It's a tracking system of neo auctions.
So we can start to get a clear view of the data that supposedly is the basis for thses "guides"

This aint a price guide.

I didn't think about the feedback thing.

And the reason stuff on yahoo goes for so cheap is, no one's there, everyones over on eBay.

Yea I know, but this is kinda like a big experiment.
It aint a guide.
It us attempting to define & track the info
that the guides are supposed to be using.

In the future, it may change into a guide, but that is not the purpose here.

Granted their a more on ebay, so their will also be more input from the ebay auctions.
Were just covering all the bases.

how come no MVS list?

This is looking to be alotta work.
Tons of it, so as an experiement, it just too much work to do both.
Perhaps after we get a handle on this, & really know what were doing, then that might be added later.

Just trying to be thorough here.....you need to make seperate listings for Euro-non dogtag carts as they seem to have higher values.......also here are some auctions that I hosted that have been completed.....

US MOTW
JAP BLAZING STAR
US KOF '97
US CYBERLIP
US BASEBALL STARS 2 DOGTAG
US LAST RESORT DOGTAG

Hope that helps out....I may sound critical, but I think you are doing all the work and letting lazy people who do not research how much something is worth all the info.....I think it is a good idea/bad idea.....and NO not the one from ANIMANIACS!!!

Now isnt that the point of every FAQ, Guide, etc, etc?
Fans helping Fans!
Thats what the "scene" side of the hobby should be all about.

I have to disagree with you on that one.....since I thought most FAQ's were written to stop people from asking annoying questions......like....

How do I spell my name?
How big is large?
How much is $3.00
What is the Number for 9-1-1?
Smartassness aside that is what I thought.....usually they aren't involving something that influence a market either.....like.....prices......

Street Fighter 3 Characters Move FAQ or Guide

Final Fantasy XII Complete FAQ and Guide
Those are usually what I think about when it comes to a FAQ.....and they don't really have anything to do with an auction.......

In a "perfect" Fan world that would be true....

What I am saying is that if someone wants to know the value of something and it MEANS something to them they put a little effort into it right? Now the little effort needed to do a search on NEO GEO on ebay is taken away and now will be taken for granted.......I just don't think that LAZY people should profit from the hard work of others. Guess you can't stop it from happening unforutnately......

Don't get me wrong Nick, I like your idea on the auction tracking is good, I am just afraid of those that use good things in bad ways......

there are many loop holes left on this thing but we feel its the only true way to value something...i mean the shit on ebay does reach stupid amounts....but man sometimes when someone outbids me i get sooo pissed i keep biddin just to say fu to that person..
pretty stupid when i think about, but yet alot of ppl bid that way.....i still think the guides should die....but that will not happen,mr magic cards likes rulein the roost
but that will change...now wheres sen 3...

Nick,
I think this is a great idea. I tried doing a similar thing in spreadsheet form for my own purposes a few years back. I know this is going to be a lot of work. I thank you for the effort.

A question though. How may auctions are you using in the average? Some games may come up for sale every month, while others only once a year. So the more common games will have a more accurate price or average. You may want to indicate how many auctions were used in the calculation.

Also, what time frame will be used? Will the guide start now and maintain the average price forever? Maybe consider using up to the ten most recent auctions and after that the older oned drop out of the average.

Lastly, maybe you could show the date of the most recently completed auction. Since E-bay only keeps the info for about 30 days, people will not know how long ago a rare game sold for said price.

Just my thoughts. Good luck, I love the idea.

Well, obviously the more auction we catch,
the more accurate it will be.
Can't cath em all, thats why this is not
too be misconstrued as an end all.
It will not be perfect.
It will however, be interesting i think.

I am thinking of adding in the # of auctions used in the average later.
Wasnt too worried about it yet.
As the majority are currently at zero & 1.

Great Idea, I will look into that.

I wasnt too worried about that.
If the link dies, its indicates its an older auction.
IMO, there's almost no need for that info anyway.
Exceot to show ya'll where were getting the info.
As long as its all averaged, the important datas still the same.
