Anyone notice that there are more in game vocal samples in the PS1 port of MD3? It's most noticeable when doing bit chains.

That’s what I’m talkin bout. It’s all about the chains. If you get a screen clear there’s a bonus. There’s an item that clears the screen around lvl 10 or 15 I forget.

I’ll hopefully get some more time in this week.

You can press down to drop the screen faster, only really helpful on the early stages, helps give you more easy combos.

I am missing something for the combos. I can't seem to get them much.

I have 3 main combo strategies, aside from bumping the screen down in early stages.

Stage a bunch of vertical "twos" of various colors and move fast. (move fast. Did I mention to move fast?)

Grab and immediately fire back a column of 3+ to keep a combo going.

Drop combos on pieces that are currently clearing. That will stage the pieces so to speak and buy you time to move and get your next combo.

Other helpful hints

You can "stack" a column below the screen as long as you're sure the combos will clear it out.

If you have a wildcard or a piece that will clear a whole color, even out the screen across the bottom, grab the piece, bump the level all the way down, and then smash.

Adventure mode is also different on the JP version.

I have always loved this game. I will have to get back into this and post a score. Are there going to be score tables for other modes if they are posted?

there's so many differences in modes and scoring structure, OP will have to decide on the one we all play on to determine who wins. From the looks, its MVS, JP, Endless, Normal. Anything else will be for fun

I’m good with US as well since a bunch are playing that version too, but I’d like to keep it on endless/survival mode.

Well done Mr. Mayo... well done. I set out to beat your last score (~250k).

My current best:

skate323k137 - 345,504 - Lvl 12 - The Fool - JP - MVS

18 max chain on the first couple levels... had 250k off the bat lol.

I was playing a bit of this last night on Switch and this game is brutal. I can't make it past stage 8 and I'm averaging 33000 to 36000 per play.

I know it may be a dumb question, but ... Is there a reason why there's no score ranking display at all with my cart ? When I'm game over I enter my initials, no score displayer, and after it returns to the main screen, a countdown of 30 seconds and the game starts. No way to see score rankings. First time I see that with one of my carts.

You have free play turned on? Kotm does the same thing in free play, there's no attract mode.

There are separate tables for JP and US...
