saner I find it odd this was posted two years ago, and one of the two comments on it was posted 13 hours ago, just 8 hours before you posted the thread.

Anyways, the two most defining parts of this game are:
-the breakaway parts of the stage that lead into new areas (you can see this at the 5:00 mark)
-the great Zuntata soundtrack that is so unusual and out-of-place for a fighting game

Of note is Lihua, the swordswoman, is identified as being from Taiwan (can be seen at 11:22) and even showing its flag. Something like that can never be seen again in video games. Or TV shows and movies, for that matter.

Oh, I just noticed at 15:56 the Mexican character is an homage to JoJo. It's wearing a stone mask and even doing a JoJo pose.

very observant! how come Taiwan flag is not really seen in games? do even Japanese developers feel pressure from China or something? its taboo to represent Taiwan in videogames?

The whole world feels pressure from China because if you do not kowtow to their whims then they won't do business with you. And because people want money, they will give in to China's demands. The Top Gun sequel, for instance, has removed the flag of Taiwan from Tom Cruise's costume (and taken off the Japanese flag because China hates Japan with a passion).

Here's an example when Marriott hotels listed Taiwan as its own country, and China closed all the Marriott hotels inside China as a response: http://chinaplus.cri.cn/news/china/9/20180111/76899.html

Another instance of kowtowing to China is Dreamworks, an American company, normalizing the 9-dash line that claims the South China Sea belongs to China by showing a map of it in their movie: https://www.theguardian.com/world/2...r-controversial-map-in-chinese-childrens-film

So, as you can see, you will never see another video game, movie or TV show mention Taiwan again.

Keep in mind, Dan-Ku-Ga was an unreleased prototype that was dumped into MAME, and was not the original version of the game.

I absolutely love the look of it (not to mention the Zuntata soundtrack). Unfortunately, I have minimal to no experience playing it.

Not sure why you're posting this in "Console systems and PC gaming" though. Does playing a ROM in MAME qualify as pc gaming?

well ROM and MAME are considered piracy and not official gaming.

aah thanks. though not all videogame developers bring their game to China, I think. while its a mass market, I think its possible for a videogame to have something Taiwan included. its kinda like how there are games that are Japan only that western countries dont get. not necessarily because of western policies, but because of budget or perhaps a dev is complacent just providing the game in their own country. wouldnt stop China gamers from somehow pirating it though if its a PC game, though not sure if they would dare to depending how much China can scan what people are playing on their PC.

I could write a wall of text on that single sentence, but the simple fact that almost every commercial rerelease of arcade games for the past 5 years or so used MAME as their backbone is enough to make this a very retarded take on MAME and emulation as a whole.

yet the vast majority that use MAME utilize it as their five finger discount to play those arcade games for free, with their publishers not getting a penny out of it.
whenever someone says "oh just play on fightcade", basically is echoing all the ROM downloaders and emulator exploiters that dont even pay for said games they use.
if every consumer resorted to things like MAME, and if everything was easily accessible and anonymously safe to download for free (including exploits to obtain any DLC for free),
the industry would go bankrupt. also arcades been irrelevant for over 5 years now in most parts of the world, mostly due to emulation more so than the fact that consoles/PCs began to have hardware that can rival and surpass arcade hardware. so people found it more convenient to just play at home instead of traveling all the way to an arcade just to play for couple minutes/hour. and emulation and free rom downloads made arcades lose more profits.

What about Dunk Dream? It was released after KK and features the Taiwan Team, which, by the way, is considered best, the WR is achieved using it. Flag is also present. But you probably meant, that it can never be seen in present times.

I'll let you in on a little secret, it's the latter, 100 billion percent the latter.

ok so lets say emulation is not to blame. PC still mostly only gets leftovers while most developers invest on consoles instead. there is less piracy on consoles. if it was the other way around, there would be a lot more games on PC instead of exclusive to consoles. and if PC gets a multiplatform game, usually it gets it after consoles do. meanwhile, there are series that were exclusive to PC, that expanded onto consoles. so console market is definitely more secure and profitable for most developers. though it can be argued that PC and mobile are more welcoming since they dont necessarily have to pay a company a % to sell their product, and there are more freedoms especially for games that sell their product from their own store and make their own rules with the game instead of being told what they can't have in the game.

I've had this longplay on while doing other shit. Man, that Zuntata soundtrack tho. Geez. So much effort went into this game, and no one played it. Love that 'break through the wall' gimmick.
